Shooter Now: Southern Cal coaches make pitch to keep Seantrel Henderson
By Charley Walters

When heralded football signee Seantrel Henderson from Cretin-Derham Hall didn't show up as scheduled last week for orientation at the University of Southern California, new coach Lane Kiffin, recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron, offensive line coach James Cregg and top assistant Monte Kiffin took a private jet to the Twin Cities on Monday to make sure the 6-foot-8, 330-pound left tackle still was committed.

In the wake of NCAA penalties to USC that include no bowl appearances for the next two seasons, as well as the loss of 30 scholarships over the next three years, there has been conjecture that Henderson has reconsidered his commitment to USC and that Miami and Ohio State could be back in the hunt.

Reached Tuesday, Henderson's father, Sean, had no comment, and Seantrel, who some day could be a first-round NFL draft pick, did not return phone messages.

The way I see it, the more turmoil at U$C the better, so this is music to my ears. This is a very weird situation though; since he has signed his LOI to U$C, won't he have to sit out a year if he wants to go elsewhere? How bizarre.

i didn't think he signed his LOI thats why he has been holding off, to see who he wanted to sign with.

or i shall say "sign" with, i have no idea why he is holding off, its almost certain he will sign with USC, even though he didnt go to orientation

just my feeling

LOL. Now that would be nice! (least he didn't choose SC)

Petros was on the radio today and he had some great points about Hendu. He was saying that this is way too much drama for an offensive lineman. His point was that O-Linemen are supposed to be one of the guys, part of a unit in which the unit (the line) is bigger than the individual, that the individual was one of 5 fingers that needed to be joined, not splintered.

Petros went on to say that he could understand this drama for a QB or a WR or RB or safety or whatever, but not an o-lineman. They're supposed to be a different breed, and other linemen won't appreciate a prima donna, as they basically need to have one heartbeat. He talked about a 5 star lineman at SC (forget his name) that he played with who went through similar drama, and how individually the guy was great, but he could never gel with his other linemates and it never worked out, despite his prodigious talent.

Now, this is not to say that Sentrell won't be able to fit in, but I thought it was a fascinating point from a former SC Trojan. And the fact that he publicly RIPPED Sentrell for making Miami HC Randy Shannon wait for 3 hours while he got his hair done ("Offensive linemen don't get their hair done!!! And what kind of kid makes a head coach wait while getting their hair done?!?" LOL) made it all the better...

Hate Petros but kinda wish i would have heard that. Sentreal clearly loves the attention. Yeah i am also glad Barr didn't go to SC but he never showed any real interest in em. Might have to check out a Bruin game this year to see Barr and Fauria.

Henderson finally signs with USC

Five-star OL Henderson committed on signing day, but waited before actually signing

Seantrel Henderson makes it official and signs with USC Trojans - ESPN

By JC Shurburtt
ESPN Recruiting

March 23, 2010, 6:01 PM ET
Five-star offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson (Saint Paul, Minn./Cretin Derham-Hall) signed with Southern California on Tuesday afternoon at his high school, closing the book on the 2010 recruiting cycle from a national perspective.Henderson, the nation's top-rated offensive line prospect, verbally committed to the Trojans on national signing day, but then said he wanted to wait to see what happened when USC went before the NCAA infractions committee. That meeting took place from Feb. 18-20, but a decision likely won't come until mid-April.

While most football prospects sign on national signing day (Feb. 3 this year), the actual signing period for Division I football does not end until April 1. As a result, Henderson had until that date to sign with the school of his choice, or else his letter of intent would be nonbinding. By signing his letter of intent, he's bound to USC, and if he decides he wants to leave the Trojans, he's subject to NCAA transfer rules and would be forced to sit out a year before playing for another FBS school.

Henderson's father Sean initially announced that his son would sign with the Trojans on Tuesday, March 16, but then said an undisclosed "minor logistical snag" prevented that from taking place. This fueled some speculation that Henderson might be looking elsewhere. The 6-foot-7, 295-pound Henderson, who learned recently that he is academically eligible after receiving his ACT scores, also considered Ohio State and Miami. But it appears he never seriously wavered from his pledge to the Trojans.

Seantrel Henderson

Word has it that he's waivering on his committment to USC considering the sanctions that were recently handed down. What are the odds he turns around and comes our way? Would be huge!

funny how some things you read in the morning can put you in a good mood

funny how some things you read in the morning can put you in a good mood

Timberwolves should press for Evan Turner with first pick of NBA draft - TwinCities.com

"The Seantrel Henderson recruiting drama continues to be bizarre. The 6-foot-8 offensive tackle from Cretin-Derham Hall played in a basketball game in the Howard Pulley pro-am league Tuesday night rather than report to the University of Southern California last week, as was planned.

Henderson, who said he's up to 350 pounds (and appears to weigh at least that much), was surprisingly light on his feet getting up and down the floor and showed a nice touch with the ball. But he's clearly playing basketball for fun. He is, though, a football player who will have to lose weight wherever he ends up playing.

USC coach Lane Kiffin and three members of his staff took a private jet to the Twin Cities on Monday to try to persuade Henderson to keep his commitment to the NCAA-penalized school. When asked about USC on Tuesday night, Henderson was in no mood to discuss his status.

It's beginning to look like Henderson, understandably, could be having second thoughts about Kiffin and USC, which cannot play in bowl games the next two seasons while losing 30 scholarships over the next three years.

A little birdie says Henderson was assured by Kiffin during the recruiting process that USC would not receive any serious penalties from the NCAA.

Miami and Ohio State were Henderson's other finalists before USC was so harshly penalized. The problem for Henderson, though, is that he signed with the Trojans, and he would have to sit out a transfer year if he does not follow through with his commitment.

The guess here is that Kiffin's jet ride back to California wasn't a comfortable one."

I wonder how many recruits were "assured by Kiffin during the recruiting process that USC would not receive any serious penalties from the NCAA." How many of those recruits still dont know/believe they were lied to?

Awesome. The rest of those recruits are in denial if they think the sanctions won't hinder their team's performance.

putting this kid aside... he is a moron I know... but looking at it objectively...

ANY kid in this situation should be allowed to leave without sitting out imo... he should have known better but he was indeed lied to (really?? I never knew)

im trying to be objective, I really am. But I cant get past that the recruits, especially 2010 recruits, knew full well what USC was up against - they gambled and lost. The 2009 class were fully aware too. They ('09 '10 recruits) should be upset that they were mislead or lied to by the coaching staff and at the university, but they are not. I have read comments from Robert Woods where he is basically defiantly saying he is staying at USC. well, good for him, and good for all those USC recruits, I hope they have a good time watching the bowl games just like I will, at home with friends and not on the field.

Those recruits did not complete their due diligence, and got caught 'holding the bag'. They have no one to blame but themselves and the coaching staff; and currently they are not blaming the coaching staff.

I agree with this. These are high school kids who are constantly being whoo'd and pampered and are flattered by the attention. Let them find new homes

Hendersons took Pete Carroll at his word. "No worries, Seantrel. Come to USC for the fast track to the NFL. Easy street."

Wonder who will take Kiffin at his word?

This drama is not over yet and we have a ringside seat.

I'd take him here at ND.
I see alot of people saying no because of the father/son thing. I did not have my father around at the age of 17/18, but I'm pretty positive that if I did I couldn't tell him to stay away. When did we start blaming children for their parent's mistakes? Maybe he was doing what his father told him.
So what if he sits out 1 year for the transfer (it could be his redshirt anyway)? If he can make the grades and play then let him. Heck just think what Longo could do with him in a year before he starts playing.
He gambled and lost. If thats the only thing going against him (crime/drugs) I'd be happy to have him.

My 2 cents.

Per Espn

Per the St. Paul Pioneer Press, blue-chip OT Seantrel Henderson is balking at his commitment to USC and is leaning toward Miami.

Please just go away...

I don't want him to play for us, but I don't want him playing for the Trojans.

Just keep him and his rapper father far away from South Bend.

Evidently Seantrel is up to 355 pounds

"It's unfortunate because being a big guy and a lineman, the off-season workout is so critical for this guy," Kiffin said. "When we saw him, he was 355 pounds, so unfortunately for him he's not only missing out on academics but missing out on preparing himself to play."

""I hope in the end Seantrel sees what every other freshman in this class has… that one or two games isn't why you choose a university," Kiffin said. "They didn't come to SC because of a bowl game the first or second year. They came here because of the education; they came here because of the football program.""

Kiffin is so full of sheet....
