The "entire" notre came (sic) fan base didn't write him off. The perennial whiners did, like some of them still are today. Check the gameday threads for those years. There were people that commented that he took one for the team playing at LB, a position of acute need for ND. Many of those same people recognized that the principal problem of the ND defense was not the players but the coaching of Brown and Tenuta, and Weis allowing it to happen.

Where was the playmaking thoughout his career at ND...tape doesn't lie. And of course you'll probably give the "Sun bowl" game (Jacory Harris, need I say more) but that is more of the exception, not the rule.

In his three years in the program he had as many position coaches, and played as many (or more) positions. I said then that if this kid was allowed to learn one position, safety, which was his natural position, he would excell. I remember seeing him play linebacker as a freshmen with the long hair. He was ruthless with a big motor and I liked him. Then sophomore year I couldn't stand him. Out of position screwing up. Then junior and senior years I thought he was one of the best players on the entire team. Great coaching, great attitude to commit to improving. Bravo Harry, bravo.

Herd is the Rush Limbaugh of sports radio. He makes outrageous statements and if proven correctly considers himself a amazing and jerks himself dry. When he is made to look foolish because of his remarks, he circumvents the matter and makes it seem he didn't actually say those things or the audience didn't understand him correctly.

Our great captain and leader .... what a rare moment of justice in life. Made me feel so great on a gray day in Kalamazoo. God bless you, Harrison. I hope that you get a chance to show that amazing athleticism and football knowledge in the pros. You were my favorite player in both of the last two years, even when our [and I mean this] brilliant young DC didn't quite yet know how to place you against certain offenses. Also, you showed that you were so good last year that the opponents tended to throw away towards your safety buddies as any intelligent OCs would. As a great coach said of going up against a tremendous player: That guy needs a good leavin' alone. Hate to go into a season without you, big fella. We're going to really miss you.
