You shouldn’t get an argument from anyone on this point…even non-ND fans & Cowboys haters can concede he’s the GOAT or at least in the conversation.
Quinton Nelson is on a similar trajectory but he has to maintain which likely means staying healthy & not retiring early.

Q is only 28 and still in his prime. Two years ago he battled the injury bug and it haunted him a little last year. He's back to the Q we know and love this year.

When I've watched him, he still seems to have it ... including the closing mop-up speed. The DC still uses him all over the field in confusing disguises --- he doesn't seem to trust Harrison any less. ... why retire unless his body is screaming at him?

They said he was 35 and I just thought his health still seems pretty good. First time in a while he did not make the Pro Bowl so without seeing many games my guess is he is beginning to slow down too.

That's a long time to have played in the NFL. Particularly when your position requires a certain level of physicality on most every play. Doing the Irish proud.
Living in the Twin Cities now, he is beloved here. Also, he fits into Flores’ scheme perfectly and is a coach on the field. I’d say he’s lost a step, but still makes up with it for being in the right position and keeping everyone in front of him in their correct positions as well!!

As a fellow ND / Vikings fan I’m happy with this decision.
The Hitman has certainly fallen off a bit.
For instance, he finished 66th in PFF’s safety grade last season, but as you said he does so much for the Vikings defense / franchise that cannot be quantified.
I hope he gets the send off he deserves this season, and can play one more healthy full season for the purple and gold.
He is an all time great, and lucky to be alive to watch him play for both my favorite teams these past two decades.

Look, I admit I have an irrational hate for the Vikings and almost anything associated with them and their empty trophy case but I’m gonna look past that for a moment and bring the following to the floor for a vote…
I feel this man needs a new title. Notre Dame Man, Hall of Famer, anything to get rid of the LOI from the title. Future members will have no idea what that archaic term means and instead think we’re laughing about a HOFer.
