I'm going to save sanity about this loss by saying:
1. BYU IS a very good football team, playing at home with an electrified attitude and fanbase;
2. The QB had a freaky good day on some critical located passes;
3. The ejection of Traore cost us the game more than any other factor. Without him, no pressure;
4. Carr had a mildly off day. And he probably needs to trust Denbock's calls more rather than always play Aaron Rodgers;
5. We still almost won.

Imo

Bowen is gone, KVA is gone, Ausberry isn’t very good, Farimo is probably a transfer. Moore is gone, if Talich listens to his agent he is gone, his stock isn’t going to get much better.

Carr is gone and Fasion is gone.

Going to be ugly
This (and 15 or so previous posts saying the same chicken little shit) coming from the guy that said the Atlanta Braves (who wound up winning the NL East) were a team not properly put together and were done a week into the MLB season. Buddy, go touch some grass.

He doesn’t have it in him. We have seen this time and time again when the Head Coach needs to stand up and say no… this is what we are doing.

Dude, you shit your pants after anything negative happens, it's always the same poorly written grade 2 grammar sob story.

Other than Kirby and Cig, which other coach do you want on the sidelines? Give it a fucking break.

I like Freeman and don't want him replaced and would want him to stay (I say that as I truly believe he had a very real, legitimate interest to leave ND for the NFL after last season), but I'm really starting to looking at this, and it's really sinking in:

2021/2022: #9 Oklahoma State LOSS
2022: #2 Ohio State LOSS
2022: #5 Clemson WIN
2022: #5 USC LOSS
2023: #6 Ohio State LSS
2023: #10 USC WIN
2024: #9 Indiana WIN
2024/2025: #2 Georgia WIN
2024/2025: # 5 Penn State win
2024/2024: #6 Ohio State LOSS
2025: #10 Miami LOSS
2026: #8 BYU LOSS

Regular Season: 2-5
Bowls/Playoffs: 3-2
Road Games: 0-4

I don't know. We had one good stretch with IU-Georgia-Penn State.

Other than that...I don't know what's really changed...

I'm pretty down in the dumps and disappointed at where we're still at.

I really need to see some sort of improvement in Marcus’ clock and game management

It also needs to be consistent. Like hitting or staying on 16 in blackjack when a dealer is showing a 10, you have to make the same decision in the same situation every time or the house is going to eat you alive.

Too often he is making go for it decisions in situations that call for kicking and vice/versa. There needs to be some sort of actual plan in these scenarios instead of ✨vibes✨

Slightly better than Brian Kelly with better recruiting. I don’t wanna get rid of him, but dang he’s gotta be able to make some changes on the coordinator side. He’s got to be able to see the issues, especially on offense. The run out 10 yards and stop and wait for the ball to be thrown offense is so generic and basic.

This is the weird thing. Ohio State losing to bad Texas on the road how they did was infinitely worse than the loss last night, doesn't invalidate them as a team or Day as a coach. Can apply the same thing across the board.

ND is currently #4 in SP+, they lost to #9 on the road. Boo hoo.

The complaints of *how* ND lost are legitimate. The teeth gnashing that Marcus Freeman now "sucks" are not, and people would be freaking out if he left ND.

Main focus should be on fixing the way we play defense before Miami because the same stuff BYU did to move the ball at ease in the first quarter is exactly what Miami wants to do but better and with better receivers. Secondary focus needs to be on the design of the passing game, but you can only change so much midseason.
Nailed it.

I would have liked to see MF pull a Whittingham and go nuts/go straight to the head ref., Not leave the field for that final second. If he didn’t know there was a second left then he has to appoint someone to clock/time management for instant information!! Really disappointed how that ended. Clear the fans off the field and play the full game!!

Some of y’all act like we didn’t lose to NIU then go on to play for the natty recently.

We lost to #8 away without our NFL safety or NFL DE, with a chance to win it on the last play of the game.
That was two years ago with Al Golden. Ash has yet to show he can stop competent offenses. It all comes down to Miami and SMU most likely

People really do need some perspective that we are #4 in the country right now and every single "contender" has one or multiple losses.

*except for Miami, who plays no one and also had to cheat FSU

Especially since Golden left, Freeman has had a big game problem. Now 0-3 the past two years, and 0-3 against the spread. We aren't losing to more talented teams. Both coordinators are mediocre to bad in big games. Shockingly, we seem to have many of the same problems we had last year: not using our best RB, throwing way too much, not adjusting fast enough on defense, staying in zone, etc. Our coaching is not an advantage we can rely on but a burden we have to overcome. The coordinators are on MF.

At the least, MF is supposed to be a good recruiter and able to get the team "up" for big games. Which team wanted to win more yesterday? (Oh, and did BYU fans sell their tickets, like our fans often do?) They played with energy, we looked lost and didn't care. The season is far from over, but the pressure is on. Another playoff miss and we will need major changes on the staff.

I want to see purple face Freeman after the loss. Is he eating gummies to stay mellow?

He hasn't had the same vibe or energy since the beginning of last year. His first three seasons, all the way through the playoff run, he had an edge to him and was fiery. He would light up refs on the sideline, wag his fingers at them, he got a good chuckle over punking Kirby in the Sugar Bowl, etc. Where the fuck did that guy go? And the the one time recently we've seen the fire, when Williams fucked the team with his little dance, he completely undercut himself by coming out and publicly apologizing. Saban, Kirby, hell even sorry ass DeBoer ream people out on the sidelines. I mean Saban used to come unglued. Obviously, we all know about Purple Faced Kelly. You don't have to do that all the time, but good Lord, you can't just be all stoic and dismissive on the sidelines.

I'm afraid we've traded "Four Quarters of Fuck You Football" for the Power of Friendship and being Brand Ambassadors. From my far removed perspective there seems to be a lot of concerns for players feelings, Williams getting a lot of reps being a good example. Can't be nice and last long at this level of football. You pat a player, or a coordinator, on the ass too many times eventually they'll shit in your hand.

The NIU game is protean. It can be a harbinger of doom, but it can also be a cope and a rallying cry. It's in the eye of the beholder.

Incredible list:

- Bachmeier QB power at Loghan Thomas
- Reverse sets up TD
- Double Pass TD
- Toney TD on Hobbs
- One handed TD by CJ Daniels
- Craver on Stroman
- Concepcion vs Zackery sets up a 1 yard TD run

All of these are first half TDs in the last 3 losses. It’s not an excuse list, there just seems to be a severe lack of attention to detail and awareness of personnel early in big games. This also dates back to early 2025, they were consistently an awful 2Q team. Subs, packages, starters can’t just be random decisions that you circle back to later that game, or season. Again I’ll say unserious. In that it’s almost disrespectful to the moment that this is a real list.

This. And I don't think BYU is that good. I could see them losing 2 games before the end of the season. We played that bad. We were that unprepared. We only had a shot at the end because BYU let us back in (fake punt and muffed punt).

Since he's been here, Ash is now 1-3 in marquee games. And that one win (USC), they put up 24 points, had 23 first downs, and almost 400 total yards. We were fortunate JLove went off and that they had 3 turnovers. Freeman has got to make a change. It's career suicide saddling yourself with that loser. Nice blitz on 3rd and 6 numb nuts. They're on the 6 yard line! They need a simple slant and you bring your safeties and backers crashing down and the middle wide open. It's a 2 second play. You think the blitzing safety is really going to get to the QB in time? He doesn't blitz when he needs to and he blitzes when he shouldn't. I can't stand him.
