Bowers is the better pure receiver, but he's not a complete TE like Mayer. Bowers had no blocking highlights in his film, which is telling. I hope Mayer winds up on a team that actually uses him as a receiving weapon. He had glowing reviews from critics prior to Bowers for honing all facets of his game and not just being a one trick pony.

I assumed that Mayer has been a lot better blocker than Bowers. From what I can tell Mayer’s blocking grades have been disappointing as he has struggled. Yes he’s done better than Bower’s, but he needs to start doing a better job.

Im inherently a little biased because he is probably my favorite ND player ever but I hope this is the year where they finally use him to his fullest potential for a longer stretch…

He's really good and this is clearly a hedge against Bowers having a degenerative knee. He's not the dynamic pass catcher of some NFL TEs but he's way better at blocking, etc. than your Trey McBrides of the world.

Yeah, glad he's getting another contract and getting paid, but kinda pissed he's stuck at #2 on a team where he's the more complete TE and could be easily starting for a number of other teams while getting more accolades. Bengals could have finally made me a fan if they would have taken the hometown kid, fucking worthless organization! :laugh:
