So, the spread and O/U are; ND 20.5 favorite with O/U 47.5... the prediction from Vegas is ND is going to win 37-10-ish. Although I would would be very happy with that, I believe that is a fairly low spread based on the Wisconsin O/Line and offense. I do not believe the offense for Wisconsin will be on the field long enough to keep the Irish from scoring at minimum 45+ points.

Is it just me or is it 'first game/away' predictions for ND from Vegas?
The spread and total means Vegas’s prediction is more like 34-13, so even closer than 37-10.

I hope we come out firing and the only way those results happen is through a backdoor cover.

My gut is that the line is pretty close to correct and the total is actually overstated (projection of 31-10) because Wisconsin will struggle to move the ball but they're certainly stout enough on defense to not give up 40+. I also think there are a lot of scenarios with a final score something like 24-17 where we are sweating a little bit. My biggest fear for this team is that they may lack identity on O, like when Penn State last year was projected to be a top 5 team and no one correctly calibrated for just how big of an impact Tyler Warren had on their offense.

This is my biggest fear this year where the offense last year and the year before knew they were a running team as well as what they had in Love and Price. I think the defense is going to have to carry them a bit. I hope I'm wrong, but I could see this offense struggling to put up points.

If we’re serious contenders there is not a world in which we return the starting QB, who happens to be the Heisman favorite, along with all of the other talent on O and struggle to put up points.

tbh I think the defensive falloff is what did PSU in if we’re assigning it to one side of the ball

Obviously Allar got hurt too. But scoring 24 on Oregon and 37 on UCLA wasn’t an offensive crisis. Advanced stats have D falling off much more, and again with a backup QB. Leadership issues as well.

Not me. RB is one of the areas where you can lose a star and not see a significant drop off if you replace them with talent. This will be Carr's second year and it's not like it's the second year for a middling QB. Carr has all the tools and with a year under his belt, I expect to see a smart, confident QB who has control of the offense.

Why did their D fall off tho didn't they return just about everyone besides their first round DE?

I think everyone is selling the running game short. My prediction is this years run game will be more efficient when it counts. While Love and Price were obviously dynamic etc, their style wasn’t well suited for short yardage. Anyone remember the shit show short yardage run game last year? Especially early on? There definitely won’t be as many 50+ yard runs but I think we will see consistent 6 yard gains.

Does anyone think the game will be closer than the spread because Freeman won't want to run the score up on the Godfather of one of his kids whose job is also on the line?

That’s usually one of ND’s better wins. Well, them and Navy. Anyways, I digress.

ND’s defense suffocates and wins a boring game. 24-7 over the Badgers
We were all just waiting for that shoe to drop. there it is.

Never understood opposing fans posting on an ND board...we have a few good eggs on here who do, but usually it's just a troll waiting to happen.

I think there is a difference between running up the score and running the normal offense until the game is over. Freeman is not going to be calling flea flickers up 28 with 5 minutes to go, but I fully expect us to run our offense with backups. Fickell and Freeman understand this is a business and it's not personal.

Penn state actually finished power rated ~15. They just had an absolutely horrific start.

and went toe to toe with Indiana. Season largely rooted in leadership issues more than talent.

That IU game was really the reason I doubted IU could make the run they did.

With respect, Love and Price weren't your ordinary talented RBs. Love was all-world. And both of them bailed out the offense more times than I can count last year (not to mention Price on ST). I think that's LAX's point. You can re-load, yes, but those are some huge shoes to fill. No RB will step in as an all-world RB. But....I'm confident the offense as a whole progresses along with CJ Carr, so I'm not as concerned. But I'm definitely in the camp that is "monitoring" the offense out of the gate. Especially in terms of their identity.

If they are true friends, then Marcus will try to hang 70 on him. If I coached against any of my friends, I would try to get them fired because I beat them so badly.

If you look at when PSU replaced Barkley and Texas replaced Bijan, the run games didn’t have a huge drop off. Their receiving yards actually were a bigger impact.

Like everyone I think there will be a drop off on explosiveness, question is how much. Chance they are more efficient. Gotta replace Price on return game as well. Passing game should see little change.

If the OL stays healthy it’s hard to imagine they fall off a cliff

I was worried the same way before until somebody reminded me that we have a chain of great RBs going back several years. We were worried about losing Kyren Williams and followed up with Estime, then went to Love, then Love and Price, and now Williams. It goes even further back past Kyren, so we'll be alright. We've got one of the best RB coaches in the country with a deep as hell room and a great OL.

ya they were flawed but legitimately a good team with poor coaching. 6 losses and 5 of them by 5 points or less. Outgained IU and really should have won. 2OT loss to Oregon. Reminded me somewhat of our 2016 season except our loss that derailed the season occurred week 1 not week 4.

This is another reason that everyone on this board should pursue their dreams. If this guy can get views by filling airwaves with information that hasn't been researched and is contrary to every metric available, then you can do whatever it is you've been daydreaming about.

Have the courage people. Take the step and achieve your dreams.
