Really awesome. I've only played the first mission post-tutorials but it was basically everything I ever wanted. Long mission of following a perp while blending into a crowd, turns into crazy set piece after crazy set piece while Bond is making bad puns the whole way.

IL2 is definitely a great WWII style flight sim as others have mentioned, not sure if it's on PS5 or not. There's World of Warplanes which is more arcade style if I remember, along with War Thunder which is also arcade style unfortunately.

If you're serious about a flight sim I would look at PC though, I think they've got all those games and more, plus they're going to have support for a flight/joystick. To me flying with a controller just doesn't feel right.

Have you seen the new flight sim controllers? Definitely not the same, but they're so much better than a normal controller

After reading all the advice and doing a lot of research, I think I'm going to go with IL-2 for my PC and buy a good flight controller joystick. A couple of the IL-2 games - Battle of Normandy and Battle of Bodenplatte - look like just what I'm wanting. I found another IL-2: Cliffs of Dover Blitz that covers the Battle of Britain. It's by a different company who, with the blessing of the IL-2 guys, reworked an earlier and discontinued IL-2 game to fix all the bugs and make it Windows 11 compatible. Those three should keep me happy for a long time and are just what I was looking for. I wish they had sone Pacific War games in the IL-2 franchise, but no. I'll have to look elsewhere for that. Thanks for the suggestions.

Check out arma 3 as well. It's set more so in the present day but has a bunch of dlcs that adds old conflicts like Vietnam, Cold War, iron curtain and a few more. Don't think they have WW1/2 tho. It goes on a deep sale every steam sale as well.

Eh, I just don't think I could do it. I'm very particular about what I use for certain games.

For platformers, Metroidvanias, and sports games it's typically a controller.
For anything flight based I prefer a joystick and nothing else. If it's an arcade style flight game I might use a controller there, but honestly I don't like the arcade ones much. Feels too much "on the rails."
For FPS it's got to be keyboard and mouse basically 99% of the time, along with dungeon crawlers like Diablo. There's a few rare exceptions, like I always use mouse and keyboard for Fallout games but for Fallout 76 I'd use a controller half the time...don't remember why, but it would do something screwy with keyboards I think.

I discovered while searching for a WWII Pacific air war simulator that there's sort of an IL-2 one coming out sometime this year called Combat Pilot: Carrier Qualification. It's a completely built from scratch game by a team that was, until recently, led by the former IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles executive producer. It won't be integrated with the IL-2 games, but will be very similar.

Totally get that, I'm probably mnk but use controllers and different ones based on the games I'm playing. I've started going back to the old Logitech gamepads for things. Not sure why those disappeared, they're great

Easy Red 2 is a good game too, it covers famous campaigns from all angles including air support

Wrapped up Mina the Hollower. It’s a fantastic game for steam deck, my only real complaint is the odd difficulty curve. The first 5-ish hours are a difficult slog; the last 5, I was just standing there mashing attack to beat the endgame bosses. The middle 15 or so hours are perfect, though.

Yeah, Logitech gets a bad rap from elitists, but they make solid peripherals that last. I bought a Logitech F310 controller like 15-20 years ago, and it lasted me up until about 2024 when one of the D-Pads started becomming somewhat unresponsive. I tried cleaning it myself and it improved, but I broke something else in the process. What did I buy after? Another F310, it's worth every penny of the $20.

I think the build quality on some of the stuff has gone down a little bit recently, but I'm a big fan of buying second hand if I can.

That's pretty true about anything these days! We had a more premium level GE front load Smart Washer that started smoking after 5 years of use. I replaced the pump last year myself after it failed, giving it an extra year of life. I knew the repair was going to be expensive this time, I didn't even bother. Did some research and ended up going with a Commercial Maytag top loading model that came highly recommended from a number of repair shops. It was a bit pricer, but I hope to get more life out of it.

I always buy my cars second hand to save money, I generally get them 2-4 years after release and under 35k miles. Lately it's been Audi, they hold up damn well and I haven't had to do a thing besides oil, tires, and brakes. Got an A3 in 2020, paid that off last year and kept it for a 3rd vehicle. Got an A4 last year for my daily driver. Then this week my wife got rid of her Buick Enclave to get a Q7. Honestly I was trying to push her into an almost brand new 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe that only had 2k miles for $32k, I liked the 35 mpg and price, but I couldn't talk her into it. I'm not mad, the Q7 drives great and if it holds up like my other two cars then maintenance will be simple.

Long story about the car thing, but I just did that. Bought 2020 Subaru Forester with 45k miles, got rear ended less than 48 hours later. Car was totaled and thankfully I'm mostly ok. Been out of work for 4 weeks dealing with back and shoulder issues. Hoping I make out like brick. Been the most chaotic and expensive month of my life.

Wow, 48 hours, that's nuts! Did you have the GAP insurance? Glad you're (mostly) okay, hope the lingering pain disappears or you at least get a nice settlement!
[EDIT] The insurance probably doesn't matter, unless the other guy took off. I'm assuming the other guy is at fault and hopefully his insurance covers everything without pulling teeth.

Spent a while using emulator and randomizer to play randomized Nuzlockes of old Pokémon games. Also put in quite a few hours on Ironmon attempts in FireRed and HeartGold once I figured out how to download and use the tracking software to generate new randomized files on every reset.

Got bored, downloaded a PS2 emulator.

I have decided that the PS2 must be the best lineup of games for any console. So many good games in the library when you’re browsing for what to play, I could fill up a hard drive just for PS2 games.

Immediately added the GTA “trilogy,” SW Battlefront II, The Godfather, NFS Underground (GOAT soundtrack), NASCAR Dirt to Daytona, NCAA 09, and LotR The Third Age.

Nostalgia blast + legit playability all these years later

I'm not a full on expert here. But do you have the hardware and you want to know how to get it to work on a tv with only HDMI options? Or are you looking for like an option for emulating on a pc? or Raspberry Pi?

I know we could probably get you there.
