They have no quarterback, and I'm not entirely sure this is the draft you want to go get one in either.

The free agent market includes Russell Wilson, Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett. They have all played for the Steelers already.

That situation has to be sorted out regardless of who is coach. They've been in a QB purgatory to the point that they've had not one but two former Chicago Bears QBs not named Sid Luckman. That's dire.

No way he'd call a press conference to say he's leaving. The Steelers or any other NFL team would totally handle the situation differently. You wouldn't hear about it first at his current jobs facility.

Also, I've seen like 20+ names tossed around for NFL jobs, and none are college coaches. I think we are more worried then we need to be right now. NFL is seemingly very motivated to have people with NFL experience.

Finally, I hope tomorrow is a "State of the Union" type press conference. By that I mean, tell us your story. What's the state of the program right now? The vibes in the locker room. Direction were headed and how you plan on getting there. I'd love nothing more than Freeman to get up, speak on what's on his mind as a program for 20 minutes, and then walk off. No questions, no nothing.

This off-season has been written by all the media and painted in a rather dim light. This is the chance to remove that power from them and tell your own story. Give em nothing. And put the country on notice that we're pissed off and motivated properly to rip heads off next year.

"CFP committee, we heard you. ACC, we heard you. Media, we heard you." Just leave it at that.

The Steelers angle had a lot more legs than most of the NFL rumors. Rossini reported on it awhile ago that they had "internal discussions" about him being the Tomlin successor. That was mirrored by a lot of other rumors.

Pardon my stupidity (blanket request, not just for this post) but is “he” Freeman or Harbaugh? I am not following.

Not at all claiming this is entirely false, but I will reiterate that Russini doesn’t have a sterling reputation for the accuracy of her reporting.

Edit: then again, I suppose that’s likely why Schefter made the additional announcement.

ND and Freeman's recent success has really exposed so many irrational Catholic haters in the national sports media. They never went full Yost when Kelly was in charge because I think it was clear ND wasn't ever going to win the Natty... now they are scared and revealing themselves.

I know you all will consider it bedwetting, but all of this noise just gives me the feeling that 2026 will be Freeman's last at ND.

Praying that the presser alleviates that fear, but with the Portal signings and the "all-in" statements...I just can't shake the feeling that he's gone after next season. Which sucks, even though I'd understand the move.

I’m wetting the bed over the fact that all of our opponents will drop their football programs after playing us

Internal discussions is so vague. It could have been as passing as "Boy, that Marcus Freeman is a helluva guy!"

The Steelers job is potentially the best job in football because of ownership. It’s hard to tell because the sample size is so small, which is insane, but they hire from the NFL and coordinators. They also take their time and hire correctly. I think it was 17 days between Cowher and Tomlin. I would be shocked if Tomlin retires today and Freeman has a press conference about taking the Pittsburgh job tomorrow. Can things be different this time around? Sure but why change what has worked so well in the past? This is all Noll forward history.

Any serious NFL franchise doesn’t hire from the college ranks. That’s something the Giants, Titans, Saints, etc would do.

Freeman is a fantastic college coach, but I’d pull my hair out if Pittsburgh hired him over, for example, someone from the McVay coaching tree.

Or maybe everyone is pissed at college football and the way they screwed us.

He was literally just in the news for “alleged battery” that was 100% false.

It’s gotta just be a statement about that, right?
