One “insider” at II said “buckle up” in a thread about this. Another “insider” at II said he’s not leaving and made it known on Friday.
Was the “buckle up” in a negative context? My heart wouldn’t survive Marcus leaving

The person that said “buckle up” responded to the poster who started the thread that said “buckle up” poster thinks freeman is leaving with “By me saying Buckle up?

JFC”

Buckle up inception

This made me more confused….but I’m prepared to buckle up no matter what

The short version would be:

  • Known bedwetter starts thread that poster domer619 thinks freeman is leaving by citing the evidence he said in a thread “buckle up”
  • Most the posters scoff at the idea of this poster being an insider, citing a couple specific examples
  • Poster domer619 can’t believe that OP started a thread inferring that he thinks that means Freeman is leaving
The extremely short version is that Irishillustrated is a cesspool and not a single “insider” is truly an insider

Gotchaaa…honestly from everything we’ve heard I would be shocked if it’s this year. I mean even the clip in question saying he’s the “top college candidate” and then the rest of the clip is talking about the vast NFL search they will do. They just know talking about Marcus will bring engagement.

The NFL attention will just never make sense to me, because almost all the most successful current coaches in the NFL cut their teeth in the NFL coaching ranks. The Giants want the next Dan Campbell, but Campbell coached in the NFL in some capacity since 2010. Maybe this is cope, but Marcus actually has very little experience/insight into the NFL game.

And I just can't see him not at least seeing the upcoming 2026 team through with all the promise it has. The NFL will still be there in 2027.

Assuming he stays, is it better to let teams approach him and ultimately sell he is committed to ND or quickly put down the fire to show hes committed to ND?

II now saying Giants took big swing at Freeman but he’s expected to stay at least through 2026.

If he were to leave now, he would lose a lot of respect from a lot people. Every message from
him becomes boring as coach speak.

And we would absolutely be fucked for next season and beyond. You wouldn’t be to find a coach worth a fuck.

All that said I don’t believe he is leaving.

“At least through 2026” doesn’t make me feel all that better.

Male him the first college HC to make $20M/year.
I'm probably going to be called a bedwetter for this, but I've had this scenario playing in my head the last few weeks.

Marcus Freeman could be the next Nick Saban. That should be good, but my fear is that he might follow the Saban path and we might be LSU. We might be the good job he leaves for the NFL before coming back to college where he then goes on to build a dynasty.

As much as I don't like the talk of Freeman to the NFL, the thing that really gets me sick is the idea of him coming back to coach a different college team. So much so that I almost don't want a good young coach to replace him, but someone closer to retirement or with a cheaper/shorter contract that we could get rid of if Freeman wanted to come back lol

Jax Dart was 7/13 for 33 yards and a pick. I don't think Freeman is leaving one of the most prestigious jobs in football with a loaded roster and a manageable schedule next year to hitch his career to that.

This exactly

NY football is where coaching careers go to die. Massive expectations and terrible infrastructure, whether it be the Giants or the Jets

If he has aspirations to go back to his alma mater one day, flaming out with the Giants is not a good strat.

One or two more title runs at ND, then either go straight to OSU, or get a job with an NFL team thats better set up for success

Maybe I'm naive, but Alston and Hasan committing doesn't scream coaching instability.

Having said that, this can't be a rinse-and-repeat every year with MF and the NFL. At some point, he has to be adamant in his commitment to the school and not give these word-salad "That's outside noise" answers when asked about other jobs.

But there's nothing he can do about the outside noise. People are free to engagement farm off of Notre Dame and there's really nothing you can do to stop it. He was asked directly if he was coming back on national TV and he said yes. Whether you like it or not, this is life with Freeman.

NFL talking heads are going to do their thing. Nothing ND can do about that except announce an extension.
