Dude cheated on his wife by knocking up a jr employee, got fired for it and had an epic meltdown where he threatened suicide and committed assault, at a university that began hearing rumors of his dalliance weeks ago yet started an investigation only after signing day, and portnoy is yapping about this being a situation in the spirit of the pedo-excusing Schembechler.

From what I’m reading on the Michigan side, 2 things:
1) “worst kept secret in town” and “entire team knew”. What an embarrassing program
2) unverified, but read a couple different places this came about because the girls father went scorched earth. The girl’s father is in the front office for the Chicago Bears as a scout.

It has been 12 hours and The Athletic hasn't even spun up the usual "Top candidates to replace" and "Pros and cons of the job" pieces it does for every coaching search. That's how you know this is a shocker.
But yeah I'm not sure how they replace him at this point in the cycle. Feels like nearly every good coach in the sport has either been fired, hired, extended or is in the CFP (well, except for one, but we're not going to entertain that). They're also pretty thin internally because they're still rebuilding the staff from replacing Harbaugh. Neither of their coordinators feel like head coach material.
It's dumb but they actually could do worse than Brian Kelly on a short-term deal.
