I wonder if Cochran still visits... He is close friends with some of the Cali kids and I think it is important that he comes out to see the campus.

Also what if Hackenberg and Brenneman stay on big Mike and get him to flip? I think it is better to be one over.

Maybe I am just a little jumpy because of what happened with this last class.

As indicated by several people already, the staff wanted to take 4 OL with the exception of adding a top 5 :s: type guy if possible. Most of the efforts will then turn to WR DB and LB

I don't see us in the running for any of the 5* guys this year.....so I don't see why you don't take a Dorian Johnson, or a Donavon Munger in this class. We only ended up with 2 in last years class.

I still think we take him. I don't see BK turning him away when he is ready.

hope you're right...love or hate what saban and the SEC boys do down south, they do cover there Ace in case another coach poaches their recruits.

I think you have to take at this point. He is too good to pass up and you are in March. Plus, I really do think you need a contingency plan just incase 6'9 turns into 6"11.

McGlinchey. I love the kid at 6'9, but think that with every additional inch, his upside becomes more limited.

Really?? just b/c he's tall?

not trying to be a jerk, just looking for the logic.

plus, most sites exaggerate the height so he's probably a hair or two under 6'8"

Yes. I think there are significant challenges for OL once they surpass a certain height.

Just taking a quick peek at NFL heights, there are only 4 players that I could find from last year that were 6'9, and none that were taller than that. There were over 50 that were 6'7 thru 6'8.

So, I sincerly hope that he is either done growing or is overstating his actual height. Either way, he is an afro away from 6'10, which I think means Dorian is a must.

Don't we have several scholarships available this year due to the low numbers last year? Why not take him?

The magic number for next year 24, which includes 5th year players as well. Most seem to think we take 20-21 recruits and keep 3-4 5th years. Wood will probably go to the NFL unless he gets hurt or has a terrible season...

The issue with taking him is that we need 3-4 LBs in this class, we need 3-4 DBs in this class, we need 1-2 TEs in this class, we need 3 DL in this class, plus we need RBs and WRs in every class. As you can see, the numbers add up quickly, taking a 5th OL takes away another player from another position.

QB: 1 (Zaire)
RB: 1 (Green)
WR: 2 (Onwualu, ??? )
OL: 4 (Bivin, Elmer, Mcglinchey, McGovern)
TE: 1 (Heuremann)
DL: 3 (Matuska, ???, ???)
LB: 4 (Smith, Randolph, Mast..., Drennan)
DB: 4 (Bell, Willis, ???, ???)
ATH: 1 [Elliot (RB/CB)]
= 21

I don't think the staff concerns themselves with the ratings.....I hope that, if he wants to commit, that they'd take him in a second.

Especially because you never know if craziness will happen and a kid will decomit at some point and we CANNOT afford to take only 3 OL this year. We seriously need to add him and worry about the numbers later.

Agree. We don't want to be left high and dry because someone decides at the last minute that he wants to go elsewhere.

After I watched this quys tape a while back I knew this he is ELITE! i still see him on defense. He is so athletic and fast. However he could be the next Tyron Smith on the OL as well.

Think the staff will take him though? With his versatility I say without question.

Considering we are still actively recruiting other O-linmen I would say no.

Actually Golden, I think this is incorrect. I might be wrong on this, but for the 5th OL spot I've heard we have a very small list of people we would consider. Aaron Cochran is borderline. Supposedly we love some guy from MA but want to see him in person... and there is Pocic... and I can't remember if there are any others.

From what I've heard, the fact that we wouldn't be willing to take Dorian's commitment is what has us out. Most expect Pitt or Penn State at this juncture and he wants to make a decision soon to avoid what happened at ND... but like everything in recruiting, that could change.

You might be right that there is a short list that they would make an exception for. Cochran and Montelus are very different prospects (tackle vs. guard). I also still think we have slim to no shot at Pocic.

Agreed. But he is visiting again and IF he wanted to come I think we'd take his commitment.

Anyone know who, if any, of these prospects can play guard?
