No way in hell is Diaco is 5'10", I don't care what he was in college. Zack Thomas was an all-pro linebacker and he was generously listed at 5'11".

Hey, if we had Diaco and Gholson line up back to back would we kill the proverbial two birds with one stone?

You'd think! But I think all we could confirm about Golson is that he's > 5'2" and < 6'5". So there remains that discrepancy. I'm gonna go out on a limb and place Diaco in the 5'3-6'8 category. Yep-- Bob Diaco is somewhere between 5 feet, 3 inches tall and 6 feet, 8 inches tall.

Cool, then does that mean that nobody needs to go in the shower to take pictures of Prince Shembo anymore?

Diaco is taller than Kelly, but everybody is. Not as tall as Cooks, or Martin?

How does Zach Thomas being 5'11" prove that Diaco is shorter than 5'10"?

I have never seen a dominant 5'7-5'8" linebacker at any major BCS school. I think you are wrong on this one, homie.

Maybe I'm wrong about him being 5'8" (maybe I was tall that day.... or drunk lol) but my point about Zack Thomas is legit. If in the NFL, he was 5'11" (again, generous) and he was a pro-bowler, you don't think a college linebacker in the 80's could make all-whatever Diaco was at 5'8" or 5'9"?

No, I don't. I don't think that you can find me an all-american linebacker from the 80's that was 5'8", and Diaco wasn't just an all-american, he was one of the best linebackers in the country (he was a Butkis finalist).

One of the craziest discussions I've read on IE. But at least it was civilized. Trivia will help in that of course. Our equivalent of "cabin fever".

To toss a log on the ... hardly call it "fire", I played BBall with Buoniconti for Keenan Hall in 1959. Nick was shorter than I was [6'0"], but not too much. I'd say 5'10" was the shortest that you could legitimately say. Nick was one of those guys that looked shorter than he was... if he wanted to "puff up" he seemed to get bigger. All of that had precisely nothing to do with him being a great middle linebacker. What did that was: he was REAL smart; he was quicker than the offense; he had great flexibility and escapability [very hard to get a direct block on, if he didn't cause it himself --- i.e. run jamming]. This allowed him to arrive sideline to sideline. We've never had anyone better.

Remember that LB named Mills that played for New Orleans? I think he was about 5'9". They called him The Field Mouse.
It's not about the size of the dog in the fight...

Sam Mills (close), nor London Fletcher were 5'8". Neither is Diaco.

Also, not to nitpick, but I said find me one that was an all-american in college. Both guys had great nfl careers, but neither of them were all-americans in college.

Ahem, Sam Mills WAS an All-American at Montclair St. that's a Div III college. He was AFCA All-American in 1980 as well as selected for the 1980 AP Little All-American Team.

Huge difference between being an All-American in Division III and being an All-American at Notre Dame. Mills and Fletcher weren't even D1 players. I'm sure Diaco is taller than 5'8" if he was an All-American linebacker in Division ONE.

This is madness. Someone tweet BK and ask him Diaco's height.

Until then, I stand by my new username title.

Te'o: Hey Coach!!!! Couldn't Fox/ Moore/ Rabasa/ Spond/ Baratti/ Calabreese/ Jones/ Springmann/ Okwara mix in here a little and give me a play off once in a while???

Diaco: quit whinin' and play. You know how bad a bunch of recruiters we are; we've got no depth.

Kelly: Diaco, you got the tools, make this defense as mean and hard, head-knocking as you possibly can....

Diaco: Sure thing Coach.....Gents...from the words of Mick..."You're gonna eat lightnin' and you're gonna crap thunder!"

Reading is fundamental. Here's the comment I responded to:

Here's the rest of his comment:

Division III IS College.

How excited do those guys make you? I am so happy these guys are on our team, this defense is going to be sick.

Look at the NY Giants and see what a dominating pass rush does for you, and they didn't have a great secondary.

I just can't wait to see Lynch/Tuitt/Nix create so much heat and pain on opponents QB's. How would you feel if you were a QB coming in and these 3 now have 1 year under their belts, and ready to dominate.

I just can't wait. And Shembo/Hercules/Te'o are ready to take anybody down hard if they get past the 3 sophmore beasts.

Go Irish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with everything you said except the giants definitely had a good secondary too! Webster is one of the best corners in football and Phillips and rolls are both solid although succeptible to giving up the big play on occasion. Amukamara looks like he could be a good one too

Who cares about Diaco's height, lets get back to admiring our front 7... Diaco is derailing this thread and its not even his fault.

I have a friend who's brother's grandaughter is a freshman at ND, and a roomate of one of the trainers that says Troy Niclas is one of the most freakishly muscular/strongly, built athletes she has ever seen. This guy is ready to be a force this year, and his speed for his size is off the chart.
