Interesting...
“@hansensouthbend: Disparaging quote about #NotreDame decommit Deontay Greenberry attributed to Irish coach Brian Kelly in a blog turned out to be fabricated..”

“@DanWolken: So the quotes CBS had attributed to Brian Kelly ripping the kid who committed to Houston? Turns out Kelly never said it. Twitter wins again!”

Bullshit it's too late.

Damage done?

I disagree. If I was coach, I'd just say **** Greenbury.

Reporter: any other comments?

Coach: nope that is all. That little pussy.

Something like, "we use to have a saying about those kinds of kids. I would rather play against them for four times then with them for four years."

He really did say that though, it was at his press conference. The context was ND is a different kind of product, its not for everyone

There has to be something else. Hansen said it came from a blog, not from the press conference which we already heard.

The biggest difference about the Kelly-Dee situation opposed to the Les-Kiel situation is that...

Kelly found out about this on the spot, he thought Deontay was his... So, he was emotional and heartbroken.... He still did a great job in handling it imo.

Les knew Gunner wasn't coming for two weeks by the time he said his knock on Kiel... Les should have just moved along, his grieving period should have been over.

he also singled him out by stating a qb from indiana....bk didn't say anything like...a wr from cali..his ref could have been to tee's shadow, darby, decker etc

This is such a benign statement...all it means is, no matter how good he turns out to be, its easier to deal with that than it is a kid who doesn't want to be in your program

that can't be the statement at issue....

as for the blog...Jesus Palamino...if no one can even find out what he supposedly said, and where it is, how could anyone be offended?

WTF?

I'd really like to see an end to garbage reporting across the board. Don't post a damn quote if you're going to take it completely out of context. Even better, don't even use the quote if you're not going to bother posting the entire stinkin' sentence. The connotation of the sentence changes completely if you read the full line:

"I used to have a saying when we were recruiting reginonally on a kid and we were making a decision, that I'd rather play against him four times rather than have him with us for four years if he's not the right kind of fit"

Kelly did say that, however context changes it tremendously. you could see it wasnt to rip into Dee like Les did, just to say not all are made for ND and we only want the ones who want to be here themselves.

Heres my transcript from the video if you watch it on und.com, in case anyone is interested:

Kelly: "Talking about those 16 it's important that we not lose focus on their day, and the exciting day they had. The one that did not, obviously when you talk about Notre Dame those weren't the right things for him. Thats fine, we have no problem with that. We want the right kind of guys, and Notre Dame has great and unique distinctions, and those have to be seen as being important in your life. Those 16 guys that chose us saw how important those things are in their life at Notre Dame, and thats why it's an exciting day for us."
Reporter: "You've already discovered this, and I've learned it over 30 years, if you come here you have to want to be here. If you don't want to be 'all in' here it's not going to work. So it's better to find out on February 1st than on November 15th."
Kelly: "Yeah because it's going to take too much time and effort. If a kid comes here and it's not the right fit, those aren't going to be good times for the player. I used to have a saying when we were recruiting reginonally on a kid and we were making a decision, that I'd rather play against him four times rather than have him with us for four years if he's not the right kind of fit. Again, lets think about the 16 guys that understood Notre Dame and what we're about, and lets talk about them as it relates to this class."

I've got no problem with what Kelly said, as I've got no problem with Les talking about Gunner. I don't know what Les said, and don't care. Kiel is in South Bend where he wants to be, TayB is going to Houston, best of luck to him.

Kelly did not rip on that kid that went to Houston at all. Basically what he was saying is I'd rather the kid be happy and have to play against him then a kid being with us and being unhappy. Of course people tried to make it a rip when in fact it was far, far from that.

Even if Kelly said those words, why would they be applied to Dingleberry? ND will not be playing UH (uhh...uhhh...) any time in the next 5 years, unless it is in the Weedeater Bowl or something like that.
Much ado about nothing.

Oh, but haven't you heard? Kelly's got anger management issues.
Remember the time he got all red in the face towards that kid who let a touchdown bounce off his helmet and get intercepted? Or how he sometimes lays in to quarterbacks who make stupid passes? I mean, he's such a headcase it lost him the #1 recruit in the nation. So of course he'd rip publicly on an 18-year-old who flipped elsewhere at the last minute. And at a Catholic university? For shame!

I kid, of course. But this is the perception. And anything that even hints at it will get legs in the press. Even if it's unfair, Kelly's got to be extra careful about this stuff. But I think he's realizing that by now.
