His mom seemed to know about it...and was 100% behind this decision to "shock the world." This is my interpretation of his FB.

I'm glad people make big decisions that affect the rest of their lives just to "shock the world."

Don't wish any ill will toward the kid, but I'm not going to say good luck given the lateness of the exit. If you had second thoughts, please address them sooner so you don't prevent the team from filling the hole...the same team you committed to months ago.

He made a comment that he would be changing his Phone # and deleting his FB account....that was a red flag for me, in fact I sent a message to a MOD about it.

Among the many mind-blowing aspects of this - which I've not seen raised yet though I've not read all 400+ posts in this thread - he apparently made this decision because he liked an assistant coach? Really?
As we all know (though perhaps Greenberry doesn't quite get) if that assistant's any good he'll be gone from Houston long before Greenberry is. Again, where are the adults with perspective in this situation?
Also dismaying: The way Greenberry handled this probably rules out any sort of Prestwood/Carlisle-style transfer when he wakes up a little down the road and realizes he'll be playing the next four years at Houston.
But anyway. Moving on...

I just pray ND fans leave him alone, and leave Tee alone. It's still his family and it makes me cringe to think of jackasses calling DGB names to Tee. Also how about we start feeling sorry for ourselves about losing highly touted recruits once we start going to BCS games everyyear.

I kind of wonder about Tee thru all of this. Has to be a little awkward. Hope everyone remembers its football, there are bigger issues out there.

Tee's dad already came out and said Tee is doing great and loving it at ND. Was also very confused with Deontay.

I thought so too. And add in the mother's comment about "shake the world", lot's of warnings there.

For those of you who questioned this staff and said they dropped the ball on Deontay, check this out from his Facebook (disclaimer: his profile is public and I'm not one of the guys that adds recruits or players on facebook.)

Deontay Greenberry
Met with Coach-Brian Kelly and Coach-Mike Denbrock yesterday to come down and meet with the fam. Juss sayin' . . . it made me visualize things that i thought was impossible. "ND"

Just like anything in life there is more to the story that we do not know about. I do wish him the best and I hope he is successful.

Our fanbase was in love with this kid. Fail.

Oddly enough, ESPN thinks Ferguson's actually a better wide receiver. Who knows, maybe they're right.
But, yeah, a bummer. And, no, don't blame the coaches. They tried, but you can't make a kid go anywhere, and you shouldn't. It's his life.

WOw, some dude wrote this on his FB page. ‎"Et Tu Deontay?"

That is wrong.

I think that's pretty funny, and probably one of the most civil comment he'll be getting for a while. I don't have any problem with someone flipping, not that I love it, but the way he handled it was absolutely a stab in the back. I was very excited for Deontay and I hope he has a bright future, but this showed some major lack of character. I can't imagine the treatment I would get from my family , let alone crazed fans, if I did something like this. I hope all the bile being spewed his way doesn't blind him to his error and that he grows from this. It's a shame.

Funny, but wrong. Luckily, I doubt many kids would even understand that.

Steelhead -- I think you are quite overestimating the intelligence of people haha. I doubt too many adults get that reference.

Also, I find it to be rather apropos. Not because he flipped but because he chose to leave Coach Kelly in the dark. Unaware of his flip until after it happened and not ever from the horse's mouth.

i think it couldnt be more spot on. Im sure Deontay, if he even saw it, had no idea where it was from, or even what it means.

I told my boss today (me and him are the only ND ppl in a sea of USC swill) that Deontay going to houston was like "a young 6 year old child you took into your house and you gave him a home, and a family, and loved him like he was your own; then when he turned 18, out of nowhere he robbed you blind and left during the day while you were at work."

My roommate mentioned something I never considered: Tee and Deontay had a falling out over a girl. They went to the same high school, right. This is just pure speculation tho.

Who would dare do something like that?

I dunno, but the helmet on his profile picture looks awfully familiar.

Any talk about Notre Dame being irrelevant is for the trolls. Other than that, I agree with you on ND. I don't blame you for being dismayed that he'd choose not to go there.

You're wrong about Houston, though. We're a power program within the admittedly unwatchable CUSA. Moving to the Big East after next season will improve our BCS access. There are a few degree tracks at UH that rival those at ND (despite my doubts that this was a factor). And, we've sent as many WR's to the NFL as ND in the past 5 years. Plus, South Bend is probably perfect for some folks, but Houston offers a big city in a warm climate.

Regarding the idea that we bought him, Houston ain't SMU. We've had a brutal time raising funds to build a new stadium while they raised something like $60M by calling 20 donors. In fact, our students are currently voting on whether to fund a bond for the stadium with additional student fees because the alumni haven't been able to do it alone. College football is a dirty business, but we've been clean since the death of the SWC. My gut tells me he chose an exciting underdog over a troubled powerhouse.

I'm not going to bag on Houston, I know nothing about the school or football other than Sumlin and Keenum. But honestly, I wouldn't have even blinked twice if he decommitted from ND to go to USC, Stanford, etc. I understand perfectly when recruits decommit from ND. Hell, if I were a recruit, I don't know if I'd go to ND right now. But USC was going after him hard and they are most certainly not troubled. They're probably going to be in the top 3 next year, have the heisman favorite at QB, and have a very realistic shot at the Championship. That would have made a lot more sense. Going to Houston doesn't.

thats as absurd as the Alabama committ taking ALA over LSU cuz they got his girl a job....thats the choice of a young naive kid, with no parental guidance/direction; or they have a complete lack of respect for parental guidance/direction.

ask these dudes at the end of their college careers about their HS girlfriends....most will just laugh, those HS girlfriends will have been a 'lifetime' ago

Let's hope he can back those words up with his play at CB next season. We're going to need him to.

Y'all
Some of you get the part where ND grabbed a kid going to LSU that would have played sooner at a school that is winning more now. The Joe Montana that beat Houston is long gone. Houston is not back where it was in the day. Neither is ND, your new coach just threw a bunch of kids under the bus, at his old job. Get a grip, or not. This board has largly been like an SNL parady of crazy fans from back when SNL was really good. Look at the end of the season rankings, how good you were before he was born is no more important than how good Houston used to be. So lighten up. after a while people will get tired of laughing at this crazyness. Not tonight, but some day. This is crazier than Coog Fans and we are nuts. P.S. Penn State is laughing with you, the rest of the BIG10 & USC not so much;-)

That was pretty damn incoherent. Just to clarify, are you trying to say Houston has a good football team, better than ND? And I don't understand the last line about the big ten and usc.
