From Inside the Irish. Another Big, Strong and Fast member of our next defensive backfield. Look at his forty time which helped him get his offer.

JOHN TURNER
High School: Cathedral — Indianapolis, Indiana
Measureables: Six-foot-two, 205-pounds
Other major offers: Minnesota, Indiana, Temple, Miami (OH)
Fun Fact: Turner’s Cathedral team drubbed Gunner Kiel’s Columbus East team 62-7 on the way to back-to-back state championships.
On choosing Notre Dame: “It just feels great that I worked for my offer,” Turner told Irish Illustrated. “Hard work pays off. I don’t think enough people realize how far you can get with just hard work and determination.”
What he’ll bring to the defense: Turner proved plenty of skeptics wrong when he received an offer from the Irish coaching staff after going to their football camp over the summer. Likely, some of those skeptics were on the Irish staff, unsure of whether or not the jumbo-sized defensive back had enough speed to compete in the secondary. Turner ran a 4.5 forty for the coaches, and likely answered enough questions for them with that performance, earning him a scholarship offer. Turner plays cornerback for Cathedral, was named first-team All-State, and offers elite size for a guy that’s currently playing cornerback. Every article we’ve read so far points to Turner being a safety, but don’t be surprised if the coaching staff gives him every opportunity to play on the outside of the defense.

a 6'2'' 205 cornerback? In high school? That's nuts. If he can do that at the college level that would be huge, considering our depth issues at that position.

Turner seems to get less respect than any of our recruits this year. That's enough for me to make him one of my favorite guys in the class. Go get 'em, John!!!

Couldn't agree more OMM.

He has the tangibles, plus his work ethic and dedication... Turner could be something special

At the very least, I think this kid will be a stud on special teams. He has the speed, size, and heart needed to get the job done on ST and will hopefully develop nicely on D.

It would be great if he can play CB in college. I remember some talk regarding Blanton coming out of high school was that he would be a safety in college. Maybe John Turner will do the same as Blanton. This young man intrigues me. A CB with that size and speed could be a real gem. This is the kind of guy the coaches earn the big bucks for finding.

IMO, these are the kind of players that move teams from good to great. He is a solid 6'2 200+ and runs a legit 4.5

Another reason why we should all be higher on him than we are is that he proved it in front of the coaches eyes. Should be an interesting and exciting career to follow.

Turner seems like the type of player that the coaches will be dying to use on special teams as a freshman, but will also want to preserve a year of eligibility. Indeed, there seems to be quite a few of that type coming in this year: Baratti, Prosise and Shumate are also all big, fast, strong, athletic and physical youngsters. Good sign for the future of the program, IMO.

ND has received his NLI, according to Rivals on twitter. He is the first signing of the day.

As NDinFL stated above, this guy has the tools to succeed at Notre Dame!

Glad to have Mr. Turner officially IRISH!

@K_Moore8 Tell John Turner to keep my old locker clean, I walk in there and it looks bad, or he will get evicted by the end of the day!

I'm rooting for this guy. Maybe it's because I'm an Indiana guy myself, but I hope he earns a name for himself above and beyond what I've been seeing.

I've read a couple of recruit threads recently where he has somehow become the poster kid for throw away scholarships.

"That's wack."

Sans injuries or transfers he will never break through at either safety or even the "star" version of DOG. And it's not really his fault. We have oodles of hyper talented guys at each position now with tons of eligibility. Shumate, Farley, Redfield, Baratti.....

Can still be a great piece on special teams.

I dont see him as a waste at all. Even if he just finds his niche on special teams that would be great and guys like that are greatly needed.

All I'll say is never say never. Anything is possible no matter how improbable.

Right. We could easily have a couple injuries and transfers at safety and need to rely on Turner as a key guy in the rotation. He's a good athlete and I think he could be solid.

Turner and Heggie do not belong in the same convo, imo. Not to bust on Heggie, who by all accounts is a great kid and a really hard worker, but he had zero other scholarship offers (he had one from Florida A&M, which was pulled before the start of his senior season). Turner had offers from low-tier Big Ten schools. He's no Max Redfield or Juju Smith but he's definitely an FBS power-conference-caliber prospect.

Can Turner play ILB?

Can Turner play ILB?

Any chance Turner gets a look at ILB?

Freshman Year:
Height: 6' 2
Weight: 209

Sophomore Year: (Spring Game)
Height: 6' 2
Weight: 220

Long arms - Rangy player in space. If he could put on another 20/25 lbs he could fit the profile.

Obviously, he could be a special teams and WR guy as well.
