If Shepards can will a spot that will be awesome. I want to see Jalen play.I doubt flyod would talk that good about him just because. I Hope he can play as good as Floyd says he can.

What makes ND great is that it IS AN ACADEMIC INSTITUTION. Thats why kids come hear, thats why the people who do come want to be at ND. Without requirements like this, the value of our great institution goes down, so I am completely fine with a kid not being accepted because he was lazy and didn't take another Spanish recruitment.

This is where our phenominal front 7 takes pressure off our inexperienced back 4 and maked the transition a lot easier. I wish the CB had more commits, but I'll happily take what we have now and coming in. Gotta have faith.

Well this shouldn't come as a surprise because ND doesn't accept transfer credit from online courses.

But at the same time it's really really stupid that this kid can't be accepted into the University because of one class. WOW. And now we're short on CB's. Way to go ND Admissions.

According to my scUM friend (he's a good guy, just misguided. lol) Standifer not only did not have 2 foreign languages, but his first one was online. His first one also supposedly only took 8 days to complete. If this is indeed the case, how can anyone blame our admissions for that? To blame them for not completely disregarding our academic standards because we are short on corners is asinine. If you feel that way, maybe you should look at why you are a Notre Dame fan to begin with.

This is definitely the glass-half-full approach but I can dig it. Nobody graduates after next season, so even though we are thin at CB it's not the end of the world that we only got one in this cycle as long as we hit that position hard in the next cycle. A lot may depend on Eilar Hardy's health; if he is good to go, that makes it easier for he or Prosise to play some corner.

EDIT: Not to say I'm not disappointed. I really liked how much Standifer wanted to come to ND. Sorry it didn't work out, although it sounds like he just didn't have the academic horsepower.

I have said a couple time this class was already really good. We were all hoping the staff could finish off on a bang which really didn't happen. Alot of people will be happy with the amount of 5th year guys that get to come back. That should raise us from 18 in the 2013 class to about 21-or 22.

But this is also partly on the fact that the administration handcuffs us with language requirements and other scholastic criteria that other schools do not. How many prospects have we had to pass on or had issues recruiting this year because of requirements? At some point we need to say "we're OK taking a chance on a kid or two and if they fail we still have a 95% graduation rate."

We cannot continue to play with the deck stacked against us in recruiting AND schedule a slate of games that is as tough as the one we play. There is a reason we're extremely competitive in soccer, lacrosse, hockey, fencing, etc. etc. but can't regular compete with semi-pro football and basketball teams. Some people probably prefer it this way taking the "high road" but I sure as hell don't.

I was under the impression that he was missing one requirement, and that he would be taking it over a semester. Please don't question me on why I'm a ND fan. I'm a ND grad (2011), and my heart bleeds blue and gold.

I just want us to make exceptions when it's absolutely necessary. Taking 1 or 2 kids who might not cut it is not going to kill the graduation rate or the academics standards of Notre Dame. We have introductory language classes kids can take over the summer, etc. I know it's not asking much; but some kids just don't have it or other credits and it continuously puts us in binds we don't need to be in.

Remember when Tee Shephard, a brilliant dude and role model who wants to be an engineer, almost couldn't EE at ND because he was maybe missing some math credits? After transferring schools and sitting out for the whole year to be eligible to enroll early? Luckily, we avoided the iceberg there... but we were *this* close to losing him (and likely Deontay Greenberry as a result) because of a lack of flexibility in our credits requirements.

Also, I hate the Stanford counterexample. Lightning in a bottle when you get the surefire #1 NFL pick at QB coupled with maybe the best football coach in the country at any level for a couple years and play an easy schedule.

It does seem like it has been coming up this season more than others. I like to think that it is coincidental (paired with our staff not having a lot of serious targets because of Darby's late decommitment), but we'll see.

We could have lashed out and said, 'you idiot for not taking a class'. But instead, we wished him luck and expressed our empathy for him. Well done Irish, well done.

The most important part of what you said is, "As a fan." Because as an alum I absolutely love the football team but totally support the school administration and encourage them to do NOTHING that devalues the degree.
