Obviously this is interesting for the Darby recruitment. Josh, George, Chris Brown, and Darby would be a big talent injection for the track team.

I'd be willing to bet he won't miss any spring football. He's on a football scholarship, he can miss a few big east track meets if need be.

hope that's the case. he's gotta chance to break into the two deep next year and right now he may be the favorite to back up cierre.

Does anyone else see this want to see this guy at receiver if Riddick plays running back in 2012? I know Kelly has said emphatically that GAIII's future is at running back, but if next year we have Wood, Riddick, McDaniel, Roberson (assuming he gets healthy) and the incoming freshmen at RB, then Carlisle in 2013, it may get crowded. GAIII is a playmaker and we want to get him the ball one way or another, plus he is SO fast ... I guess we just have to see how things shake out in the spring.

I like that he's sticking out track. I hope he's not ignoring those cone/agility drills though. It seemed that although he has great speed, he doesn't seam to make quick cuts which is more important at RB than straight line speed.

What do you guys think?

Agree 100%. This is why I question whether his future is truly at RB. Riddick, on the other hand, never seemed comfortable at WR and seems like a natural RB who should stay in the backfield. So I'd like to see Atkinson and Riddick switch position groups ... but with the caveat that, like everybody except the coaching staff and players, I haven't seen Atkinson play RB much and it may be that he belongs there like Kelly says.

Kelly said GAIII got moved to RB because he doesn't have the hands for WR.

In light of that, I think we'll see McDaniel moved to the slot before we see GAIII back at WR.

i think we need to see cam mcdaniel in the slot if he's going to make it onto the field outside of special teams.

What about a move to Safety? I believe that's where a lot of the recruiting services projected him coming out of high school. It would be great to have that range in the defensive backfield. I just don't seem him being very successful at RB because of his lack of lateral movement and cutting ability which is essential in the spread system. Just a thought.

We'll currently have 8 or 9 Safeties in 2012, depending on where you project Baratti. I can't see moving such a talented athlete to an already crowded position.

Also, "doesn't have the hands for WR" is probably synonymous with "lacks ball skills". That doesn't bode well for GAIII's prospects as a DB.

I think we're blowing his alleged "lack of lateral movement and cutting ability" out of proportion. He was a freshman last season. Give the staff some time to develop him.

Yeah, I'd hesitate to put a guy who is always a threat to go to the house on defense, although I see the point. We probably just have to trust the coaching staff on this one. He reminds me a bit of Ryan Grant as a taller running back who I thought had questionable shiftiness at one time, but look what a good RB Grant has turned into.

Are these guys expected to do track or are we just speculating?

Also, is there anyone else on the football team currently on the track team? Has there been anyone who has done both in recent history?

Here's the results. It looks like George would have placed 7th Meet Results For comparison Darby runs that race in 6.77

Bennett also screwed up his start. So we have three guys running around a 6.9... damn, that's fast. Really, really fast.
