Oh boy..

Not to be a Debbie downer, but does anyone else get the impression we missed our chance?

I mean if he would have EE'd he probably would have been ours, right?

Yeah, I think we've both likely missed our chance... and I know for a 100% fact he was heading here if Armond transferred in.

I think the only thing that will keep him from USC at this point may be the fact that they run a 4-3 and not a 3-4 and he doesn't want to play OT. The only reason he dropped USC to begin with is because the family thought they were screwing his brother. Now that it appears Armond won't be cleared to play anywhere that has a conscience... the black cloud tainting USC in Arik's eyes will likely dissipate.

At this point just hope for anywhere but USC. Huge bummer how this all played out. I'm personally rooting for Oregon.

very disappointed in admissions if this is the reason we don't get him. i really hate losing out on kids for that reason...just get guys like them enrolled so we can start winning championships again

Pure speculation but I'm on the same page as you Lax. I can see Eddie O and Kiffy in the Armstead living room saying" We would of loved to play Armond but our docs wouldn't allow it... the same as all the other schools!! Now for Arik we would love to have him and play right away!! Looking to be more legit now, but who know's?

I don't know if you just haven't been paying attention recently but it's not the admissions fault. Our doctors have yet to clear his brother. That is the problem.

Maybe if we upset #1 Syracuse today Mike Brey will use his magical gypsy powers to lure Arik in.....hmmmm???

...and if the gypsy deal fails, show him the stage dive from the football pep rally...I'd go to ND to see that...well, and that carp thing!

...but then I'd go to ND anyway:)

meant doctors my bad. but admissions has screwed us before.

I'd be very disappointed if we missed out on the Armstead's too, but unless there are some really shady and unusual circumstances I would not be disappointed at the doctors specifically.

I realize that there has been a lot of speculation that the medical staff at USC (and perhaps others there) had been screwing around with Armond, but I haven't seen any hard evidence that they held him out without a valid reason. Note: maybe there is evidence, but I'm not currently aware of it.

If there's a legitimate health concern I would rather not clear Armond just to get in Arik's good graces. I want to win just as much as any and would have loved to have seen the brothers enroll at ND. This being said, I would much rather have ND's doctors do their due diligence and maintain their ethical standards than see them clear somebody with a health issue. Who really knows what Armond's medical issues are? But if it came down to risking a young man's health just to obtain a higher ranked recruiting class for the year, I would be disappointed in ND. Until I see evidence otherwise, I would defer to the medical staff's opinion.

Exactly.

I know we don't like USC around here, but whatever they saw was apparently enough to sit a two-year starter and potential 3rd round NFL draft pick. They may be dirty, but they're not stupid. I think it's worth Notre Dame taking the time to figure out what's really going on, even if it means losing these guys.

One question I have.. If all these medical staff's are not comfortable clearing Armond to play then why the hell are his parents letting him even entertain the idea?

There has to be something seriously risky going on if no one will clear him.

Because they've had doctors clear him already and another good season could raise his draft stock.

I GUARANTEE ND won't clear him if questionable. Don't we all deep down inside believe if ND cleared Armond that him and Erik would already be in South Bend.

^this. That is why it's a very odd situation. I'm not a parent, but I would think that if doctors were telling me that he has a condition or problem that could potentially be life threatening if he played, then I would listen. I understand they got their own doctors to clear him, but one university has already denied him clearance and quite possibly a 2nd in Notre Dame.

Cal has hired Todd Howard from Wazzou to replace Tosh.

Howard gave Arik his first offer while at UCLA 3 years ago.

Arik apparently really likes Howard.

I thought the problem was that things were too hectic. So the solution is to make things even more hectic?
By posting all these offers and by asking this question I think we see a little deeper into the young man and his interviewing all these possibles. Saban-come on man are you kidding me. Hawaii/what about the Chicago Bears. This sounds like avoidence mode to me. More to the point he sounds like a southern cal type of guy but with Saban in play my $$$ goes to pro football south.

This has some similarities to Seantrel Henderson saga.
The whole process produces this kind of reaction from the prospective player. I hope Notre Dame stays the course with their way of doing things. Of course we want the better players and of course you have to court them a little bit but when it gets this nuts I see caution flags. There is a way to do it right and it seems to me Notre Dame courts to the best of their ability and tries to convince on student life and your life after football. The thing that bothers me more than anything is that the value of experiencing college life at Notre Dame goes right over the heads of some of these young men. Its just not all girls and sunshine-think about your 40 year decision. Like I said many times if when you come back to campus with your family as an alum and you dont think Notre Dame carries more prestiage than any other place then you should have gone to another school.
