Happy you guys are having so much fun, but my eye is riveted on cornerback. Thank the Lord for Tee Shepard, but we need an elite to line up alongside. I have very high hopes for Jalen Brown and fair hopes for Josh Atkinson, but it seems to me that there's been some talk of even shifting Slaughter to CB should all else fail. If any of that came from "insiders" [that was a month or so ago and I've forgotten who said it, but it wasn't just "us"] that would indicate that the Staff thinks that we might not really have a #2 CB yet. [Shepard being in my mind the only #1]. All the talk of Armsteads, Thompson, Agholor, et al is exciting, but I'm REALLY hoping for Darby or someone in that range of CB talent --- and CB, not safety. So, in my opinion, regarding actual team need, it's Darby, or someone like him >>> anyone.

"Shane Walton" is much better with "Vontez Duff" alongside.

wow i went to bed after TP's last post and now I am caught up. I found the words bigger and hurdles interesting. I say the hurdle with darby had something to do with track. and Bigger meaning in size. When he said bigger than Nelson I assumed no Nelson.So when TP said we would be Glorious on NSD, my guess is Darby,Armsteads, and Shaq. But the icing on the cake is Neal.

I'm hoping if we can get the Armsteads, we can leverage the momentum from them and Kiel to either get Darby back in the fold or Poole, both of whom are elite CBs, because I agree we really need another CB in this class. If not them, we'll have to settle for a guy like Standifer, Wright, or Redmond, but am really hoping for Darby/Poole. After that, I'd like one more elite WR -- Agholor, Neal, Treggs, or Howard (though two of those guys are currently committed elsewhere).

As for OL, we're not going to get Garnett as we've faded (understandably) with the lack of an OL coach. And that doesn't really worry me if we get Arik Armstead because then, with Armstead and J. Jones, we have two prototypical OTs, each of whom could be moved to OL even though they both want to try at DL. (Think ultimately Armstead is a better DL prospect than Jones and so the latter would be more likely to move to OL.) This would give us essentially 3 OL in this class, which is fine for a year in which we weren't really focusing on that position, and in light of the transfer of 4* Prestwood this past year and the committment already of Steve Elmer, who is one of the very best lineman in next year's class and seems super solid to ND.

Can't help myself: regarding O-line--- when Mr. Zach and his buddy Chris move on, we will have three seniors of which only one is obviously a player [Lombard]. We will have our load of five juniors, of whom it seems like maybe four, if we're lucky could be very good players. Then if this class whiffs, as seems likely, we will have only two sophomores [Harrell, Stanley]. THAT'S THIN FOLKS!! What if we get some injuries??

Thats what the women say....but they say somethin about big suprises and glorious this and that. I dont know.

Phrase of the Day: The Turning Point. Not tooting my horn, but last years class was cruical to showing Coach Kelly and co could recruit nationally. This years class is about making it known that Urban/Hoke arent going to push BK around. As well as if all pans out, take the Dline haul last yr + DB haul this yr = who needs LBs.

Just watched my first tape on Shaq Thompson. He is sooooo good. He shows hi explosiveness on offense. IDK what his 40 time is but I'd assume it's like 4.45 which is phenomenal for a guy that's 6'2" and already 210 pounds. He is physical. Has Prosise esque ball skills. Pretty much the perfect FS. I also think he could be a beast as a slot receiver based off his offensive highlights.

Sounds exactly like a smaller version of a safety we already have committed. That is if you buy Baratti's 40-time, which I'm skeptical of.

OK, so we're clearly looking at some addistions to the DB class we already have. Is that safe to say? Is it also safe to say that that isn't necessarily limited to Wright?

Its thin, but it is what it is and it is improving! Decker jumping ship with the OLine coach is tough to overcome. Also its not easy to get 4 kids every year, and losing Matt James (RIP) and Alex Bullard hurt.

However, one of the advantages of recruiting athletic JUMBO DLinemen is that we can legitimately, create QUALITY emergency depth if need be. Hounshell, Springman, and Jones are all excellent possibilities who most recruiting services think should be over there anyway. In fact, they projected quite high as O-linemen. Moreover, we'll have 10 guys with 3 or more years left next year. We have one stud signed-up in 2013 and will need 4 more that year.

Turningpoint, I know you're info is usually gold, but after reading this thread I will simply say this: if we don't have another surprise before NSD I'd stay away from non-tinted windows. :wink:

Why would you be skeptical of it? It was laser timed yeah?

And that was caught on uneditied video. Many on this site saw it. Check it out, it is posted somewhere back on his thread.

One could make more obvious arguments as to why Barratti's list is good but not great despite his size/speed/attitude, but I actually think its a combination of:

(a) his initially wanting to play QB;
(b) projecting at a position that his coach did not let him play;
(c) Being overlooked by Texas because of Mack Brown's admittedly deficient way of targeting 14 and 15 yo old recruits and signing everyone right after their junior years;
(d) Committing relatively early;

The fact is that his measuarables are in the world of Perkins and Shaq, like Harrison Smith's were.

He has the size and speed for LB, FB, SS, FS, WR, or QB.

I'd love hear TP say something about this.. Not calling him out but very curious in his take.. Was he ever referring to the armsteads? Was he talkin bout other recruits? That's the prob with posting vague info and citing no sources...

Virtually everyone was calling the Armsteads to ND. Don't take this out on TP.
