What about Todd O'Brien?

whole different monster. You have serious accusations of illegalities and fraud that embody Martellis reason. Not saying hes right or wrong, but that doesnt appear to be the issue here with AA. OBrien has tried to appeal and the NCAA wont even hear it based on some of these accusations.

Amir Carlisle is transferring from USC to ND, why can't Prater then?

Was listening to a SCum recruiting podcast today and they didn't understand why Amir was allowed to transfer to ND. Is there even a remote possibility that he is paying his own way for one year? Btw... they only had great things to say about Amir... on and off the field.

djournal.com - SEC votes to ban transfers like Masoli

It also says that the rule goes into "affect" on that date so it's light on editorial oversight. I have no idea how thorough they were with the fact-checking.

This is hilarious, they do all kinds of shady stuff, but because they thought Ole Miss might upset the natural order of the SEC they want to stop such unsavory transfers.

"We see this as an academic rule," SEC commissioner Mike Slive said. "When it became an athletic rule we were no longer interested in having the exception."

^Was that quote a joke?

F*CK YOU SEC.

I haven't looked through all of the recent posts so forgive my ignorance. Why since he's visiting Auburn does everyone assume he's going to Auburn? Do you put that much stock in the 'final visit', or is there more to it than that?

And is there any validity to the rumor that USC can block him to ND? Remember, Prater is an undergrad and Armond is a graduate.

You can ALWAYS refuse to release a student to a school... graduate or not... as long as you offered them a scholarship the previous year and are offering them a scholarship for the next year. See the article on the St. Joe's kid. It's a huge flaw in the system... I'm not sure how the rule works if you were declared medically ineligible at your previous school and therefor weren't an active member of their sports team. Just a very complex system.

I've seen people saying a few times that classes at ND start on Monday, but I'm a student there now and they actually start on Tuesday. Just wanted to clear that up so people don't freak out if he decides he's not announcing on Sunday!

As an aside, coaches can move from program to program easily and without repercussion, while student-athletes are punished.

Should be fixed but wont ever be.

Hold up now. Let's hope we are talking about making it so student athletes can move freely between schools rather than making it so coaches are punished for going to a new school...lol

Final visit for Armstead, could announce Sunday
January, 11, 2012
Jan 116:21PM ETEmailPrintCommentsBy Greg BigginsThings are starting to wind down for two-way lineman Arik Armstead (Elk Grove, Calif./Pleasant Grove). The athlete will take one last visit this weekend and could make his decision as soon as Sunday.

“I’m going to Auburn,” Armstead said. “Me and my brother Armond are both visiting, and we leave Thursday, and we’ll be back home on Saturday. Right now, the plan is to make my decision as early as Sunday, but I could also wait and do it on Monday.

“I’m planning to enroll early, and some of the schools start next Monday and others on Tuesday so I want to decide pretty soon. I don’t have any big elaborate plans on how I’m announcing, but I think we might just do it at my church on Sunday if we can. Otherwise, I’ll just call up the schools and let them know.”

IMO, all this means is that Arik is likely going to Cal.

Armond wants to transfer to Auburn, Arik says he will tag along for the free trip.

Armond gets everything worked out while there and the transfer is approved and Arik comes back home and announces Cal at his church on Sunday.

if i were a betting man, my guess is that it's going to go down almost exactly like this.

way too late to come to ND with those travel plans imo. he's got everything set to go to Cal it seems.

Yeah, unless he already has his travel plans to ND set which is possible, unlikely but possible.

This hardly seems legit...I don't think they would fly him down to tell him he can't transfer.

Why the visit then...if neither is supposedly going there? Auburn's a sh!t town with almost no redeeming qualities, especially in mid-January after football season. Perhaps Arik does have legitimate interest in AU?

Didn't someone post in the "Who is likely next?" thread that the rule doesn't go into effect until Oct 1,2012?

Yes. But there was a discrepancy last night with it when it was brought up. It could possibly be 2011, rather than 2012. I don't think I've seen it posted definitively.

No, I think the one that goes in effect then is the rule saying you have to have 2 years of eligibility remaining to transfer to an SEC school. I'm pretty sure the graduate transfer rule is already in place.

Doesn't seem very legit. I searched "Mark Logan"n and nothing came up. Probably just a fan, so take what he says with a grain of salt.
