I'm getting really sick of Stanford being a legit football school. It was only a couple years ago that they were a perennial bottom dweller like Duke.... we need them to get back to that.

I went to check out Mr. Carter this evening and I must say I was not overly impressed. Kid is a solid prospect, but I expected him to dominate an inferior opponent, which did not happen. He did have 2 scores including the opening kickoff, but he also had a couple of dropped passes, one which was a definite TD had he held the ball. He was wide open in the middle of the field and simple dropped the ball. In my opinion, he could a stud in the secondary and on special teams. He seemed to be disinterested at points, which I understand is possible. Kid appears to be physically ready for the next level, but did not seem to have that hunger to play "lights out". I thought he ran some lazy routes when he knew he was not the 1st option for his QB and the same in his run blocking. He did have some rather apparent abilty on the defensive side of the ball. Fluid hips, good footwork, and very good acceleration to the ball in the air. Just did not seem overly aggresive on "D". With all this said, in my personal opinion, I think this kid will be great with the proper coaching and motivating. Just seemed to be bored playing against others that he, and everyone elses, knew he is better than.

I see in the "Who is likely next?" thread GB Domer thinks Alex Carter is a possibility.

http://www.irishenvy.com/forums/587187-post1303.html

There's nothing in this thread in 5 or 6 weeks.

When he committed to Stanford, Carter noted he'd been a fan of SU's since he was 12, he liked the education (Student-athlete), and the WARM weather.Stanford gets commitment from Virginia safety Alex Carter - NCAA Football - Sporting News

In another article it was pointed out Alex was making his own path in the world. I took that as he was NOT following in this father's footsteps.

His father played in one of the best defensive backfield's ND's ever had, Tom Carter and Greg Lane at corner, and Jeff Burris and Bobby Taylor at safety. ND was 29-7-1 in the years Tom played.

Alex has great speed 4.42 and would be good fit but I'd like to hear something about a scheduled visit, a recent chat with Charley Molnar, his recruiter, is terrified of earthquakes, anything to show the door's ajar. He was a legacy when he committed that hasn't changed.

Hmm who started these rumors?

“@rivalsmike: Rumors about US Army All American Alex Carter looking around despite commitment to #Stanford are untrue according to a text from him.”

Anyone else hearing this might be the "new skilled player" popping up on our radar? Also, the alternate theory I'm hearing is Leonte Carroo.

I think everyone has been named... including the dreaded Justice Hayes.

Anyways, I thought it was a "transfer"

LMAO true... not talking about a transfer though... talking about a new 2012 recruit.

I've heard (completely unsubstantiated) rumors that Leonte Carroo might have a commitable offer and be flipping at the Army game or that Alex Carter might have interest in checking out ND.

I think Carroo seems like the much more likely recruit, particularly given the push we've made with the New Jersey kids lately. There was a legitimate ND connection for Carter and it never really materialized into anything, so I don't see why something would happen all of a sudden.

Why is Carter the more likely recruit?

I don't think Carroo will leave Jersey. I also dont know how interested the staff ever really was with Carroo. Also, Carter is a legacy and never visited here. I think he's a little interested and seeing what it's like in South Bend. This is my opinion of course.

I would take Carter. ESPN says his recruiter was Molnar.

Also according to ESPN, kid runs a 4.42 40, 4.00 20 yard shuttle, and a has a 38.4 inch vertical.

Imagine if we end up with all four Don Bosco studs?

Shumate should be ours tomorrow, and Wright's currently an ND lean. That would make a Carroo flip entirely plausible; and once we have 3/4, Hamilton would have to give us a serious look, no?

Not according to IrishLax and GBDomer's posts in the Anthony Standifer thread.

Apparently Alex's sister passed away recently while sleeping due to Diabetic shock. Very sad. Prayers for Alex and his family.

Man that is terribly sad to hear, I went to school with Tom although he is a couple years behind me, but really just a great guy, my heart and prayers go out to this girl and the entire family.

He is going to be a very good player. He would have looked great in blue and gold. Can't get them all though
