O-line and RB are vacant. The defense needs another coach, possibly LB or DB.
WR, RB, and QB may change depending where Booker lands.
The path of least resistance is Martin to QB, Booker to WR, and Alford to RB, but I guess Booker could end up helping Diaco with the LBs and they could hire two new offensive coaches.
Any talk of Alford ending up recruiting coordinator? Or is that not a job you want your best recruiter doing?

According to this SB Tribune Article, "Booker will likely end up coaching on the defensive side of the ball."

I would actually like that better. I think he could coach LBs with Diaco and help with their coverage skills.
One possibility that has not been mentioned is Martin to coach WRs (allowing us to hire a younger QB coach to help out Kelly). It seems to me that he is a great teacher of fundamentals, and most of our concentration is not going to be teaching upper-classmen the finer points, but freshman the basics. Alford could move back to RBs, where he has the most experience.

Doubtful. Correct, it's usually not a job for the best recruiter. The top recruiter needs to be on the phone and on the road talking to players, parents, and coaches.

I'm dreading Booker coaching on the offensive side of the ball....he has no experiance there, and as BGI pointed out, ND isn't a place for OJT. Makes no sense to me.....

This seems unlikely to me.
Last season Martin had the whole secondary and Cooks focused on the CBs. Wouldn't it make more sense for Cooks to take over for Martin and Booker to focus on the CBs?

Coaching DBs is the only experience he has. If he's not qualified to do even that, he shouldn't have responsibility for any unit.

Notre Dame’s newest addition to its full-time staff has left a trail of swooning coaches in his path to the Irish assistant job. Scott Booker’s former tutors say he has the intelligence needed to carve out a name for himself in the world of college football.
Irish assistant coach Scott Booker is the newest member of Brian Kelly's staff.
Booker was hired as an assistant by Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly earlier this week after serving two years as an offensive coaching intern for the team. Prior to arriving in South Bend, he coached the defensive backfield for Western Kentucky in 2009 and at his alma mater, Kent State, from 2005-08. The 31-year-old Pittsburgh native played four years at safety for the Golden Flashes and made the 2001 Mid-American Conference all-academic team. His position coach at the time, Mike Dietzel, said Booker was the smartest player he’s ever coached.
“Scott had the ability to take everything from the classroom and process it on the field probably better than anybody we had,” said Dietzel, who just finished his 25th year as a college coach and is now at the University of Buffalo. In his quarter century of football, Dietzel has also coached players at Army, Colorado and Michigan among others.
Dietzel said Booker wasn’t considering a career in coaching as a senior in 2002, but he did his best to change the smart young player’s mind.
“I told him, ‘You would really rocket through this profession because of your personality, and your character, and plus your knowledge is just something that comes very natural to you,’” Dietzel said. “I don’t know that that conversation actually made his decision, but I was hoping that would happen for him because he’s got the natural ability to understand the game at a level that a lot of guys don’t.”
Booker remained with the team as a graduate assistant and stayed at Kent State for five years under head coach Doug Martin. Martin, who just signed on as Boston College’s offensive coordinator, also praised Booker’s football savvy and his ability to evaluate talent in the recruiting game. Booker produced two NFL players at a middle-of-the-pack MAC school during his time there.
He spent a year at Western Kentucky, where Dietzel was the defensive coordinator at the time, before going to Notre Dame. The Hilltoppers, in their first season playing in the FBS, finished 0-12 and ranked dead last in passing efficiency defense. The school’s administration cleaned house late in the season, but Booker landed at Notre Dame thanks to his connection with recently departed Irish offensive coordinator Charley Molnar. Molnar ran the offense at Kent State during Booker’s first two years as a player.
Both Martin and Dietzel said they spoke with Booker since he was promoted, and he said he has yet to find out what position group he will be coaching next season for the Irish.
“I haven’t heard exactly where he was going to be working at Notre Dame,” Martin said. “He can coach either side of the ball. That’s one of the great things about Scott. There aren’t many guys that can do that especially at his age.”
Martin said he had Booker pegged as Kent State’s next defensive coordinator before he left the program in 2009. Several of his past coaches, as past coaches are apt to do, trumpeted Booker’s leadership skills and said they wouldn’t be surprised if he continued to climb the ladder rapidly.
David Elson, the head coach at Western Kentucky when Booker was hired and currently the defensive coordinator at New Mexico State, said expects his former colleague to eventually land a head coaching position.
“He’s a guy who is not going to leave a stone unturned, both in recruiting and as far as in the X’s and O’s of scouting an opponent or finding a way to make a player better,” Elson said.
Booker has built a spotless reputation during his short career thus far. He’ll need more than that no matter where he lands on the Irish coaching staff next fall.

I like this hire. I think it will be good to get some young-blood on this staff. Seems to be very well respected. He could coach WRs or DBs. I would like to see Kelly hire a big time LB coach or ST guy to fill in the gaps.
OL coach will probably be a guy who will be ready to take over the offense in 2 years, after Martin gets picked up. Hence the due diligence

I usually abstain from commenting about Lemming. But this if @#%^ing ridiculous!!! What staffs are better at recruiting "nationally"? The service academies? Possibly Stanford? Where the f^ck does he think ND gets its players? ND and this staff run laps around recruiting gods Saban, Brown, Meyer, and Richt when it comes to recruiting nationally. Those guys recruit regionally, and then get 1,2 guys a year "nationally."

Lemming's is one of the stupidest comments I've heard all year. It ranks up there with several things we've gotten here on IE ["Fire Diaco", et al]. When you hear allegedly mentally competent people come up with such howlers, you almost have to believe that they are chemically impaired at the time.
