Has Jalen even seen the field though? I know he was one of, if not the fastest guy on the team in the spring, but besides a thank you from MF for making him better, what do we know about him? Since Jalen is a big corner (6'1" I believe), maybe he just always matched up with Floyd in practice and that's where Floyd's praise came from? Or maybe he was really playing well on scout team. Who knows, all I know is Tee and Darby are eating people's dinner against other elite competition and I can see one of them starting the year out when we lose 3 starters in the defensive backfield.

I'm confused by the logic that asks whether Jalen has seen the field, then uses that as a reason why kids currently in high school should start over him. Maybe Tee or Ronald will beat Jalen out. If they do, awesome. But at this point any argument that involves experience would clearly benefit Jalen, who has spent a year in the system already.

The argument in favor of Jalen has to do with practice. It was reported earlier in the season that he plays opposite Floyd during practice and had been locking him down.

If this was in response to my post then I think you misconstrued the point I was making.

Because those two corners (tee and Darby) are coming in with a ridiculous amount of talent compared to Jalen (as far as ratings go).

If Jalen hasn't seen the field (which I don't believe he has), then it's going to be a solid competition against two top-5, 5-star corners who have as much college experience as he has.

Jalen was a 3-star guy by both rivals and scout.com and scout.com has him as the #50 CB. That's my point.

I can see the venom at Gray due to his play this season in key games... but seriously, over the course of his career he was a very nice player for us... and i'll never forget the hair cut...

;)

Good luck to him.

Back to Darby and the current class... this is prob. the least I have followed recruiting step for step since joining the ESPN boards back in the early 2000s... can someone help me out with which if any of the current DB targets/commits are looking to EE???

Thanks in advance.

That's fine. That is a talent argument, though, not an experience argument. As I said, if Tee or Ronald can beat out Jalen, that is awesome. But any part of the argument that is based on experience clearly favors Jalen. He may not have "game" experience, but he does have experience in the system and competing against D1 players, albeit in practice.

Like you said, it's not like Tee and Darby will be coming in and trying to beat out a 2 year starter. I guess I just don't put a lot of stock into practice experience. Tee and Darby are coming in to ND eating lightning and shitting thunder against guys that have barely seen the field if at all. I like their chances.

Jalen also has had a year in a program with a top notch training facility with awesome trainers plus the food table. He will be much more physically mature then the young guys. The only thing that can knock him off is if these young guys are just true elite talent with natural ability and speed. That will trump experience every time.

I understand the arguments in favor of Jackson, J. Atkinson, and Brown regarding experience in the system and physical conditioning, but I have to agree with Jake here.

Experience and conditioning weren't enough for Schwenke and Hafis Williams to hold off Tuitt and Lynch this year, and I doubt it'll be enough to hold off Shepard and Darby next year.

J. Atkinson and Brown actually won't have much of a head start on Shepard. Neither of them was an EE, so they've only got Fall Camp + the 2011 season over Tee; not even a full year. I'd imagine having missed his senior season will slow Tee down a bit, but not much.

If he's not starting against Navy, I expect Shepard to take one of the #1 spots before the season ends, and Darby to take at least the #3 overall/ Nickelback spot.

I would not be surprised to see him in special teams duty as well.

Regardless of whether he is or isn't a good coach, Herm is not leaving his cushy job at ESPN to be a college position coach and all that that entails, including long hours, a pay cut and the exhausting recruiting process.

Video of Herm Edwards coaching up Darby, Poole and others:

Herm Edwards' Coach's Corner - ESPN Video - ESPN

I hope these guys realize how awesome it would be to be personally coached by a DB coach like Herm. Great stuff. All 3 of those guys really looked like students of the game. Herm even mentioned Darby was asking lots of good questions the day before. LOVE IT.

WV made it look like child's play against that Clemson D. I know Clemson is young, but HOLY CRAP did they look bad.

I lost some vbucks on this one, but I'm ok with that because hopefully it helps us that much more with Nitro.

WVU might have put up a hundred on Clemson; you should have heard the noise on the Clemson gametracker board --- everybody should be fired. Ha!!
