Hopefully Martin can save this committment. I can understand why Decker is reconsidering things, and I can even understand why he might feel like he's got almost no surviving ties to ND, but it's a program in need of young talent, poised to sign incredible players at the skill positions and well on it's way to developing a dominant OL. He can be a part of that as well as the ND family or he can choose to follow coaches that misled him to play for a school recently hit by scandals and going through a fresh restructuring process under a new coach.

Not saying it should be an easy decision for a 17/18 yr old man, but I think he stands more to gain on and off the field at ND. Just hope our coaches can drive that point home.

If he's truly a Notre Dame man, he'll figure this out. Hopefully he'll come to recall all that makes this university so special, even more so off the field than on!

Martin is a great recruiter in his own right from reports I have seen so I think it will be okay.

I refuse to get worked up after getting ulcers from believing the Tee/DGB circus rumors. There was legitimate concern the second "Corch Irving Meyers" personally called Decker, but let's just be patient, the kid has been committed for a VERY LONG TIME.

I think Decker will be fine in the end but it's the initial shock that stuns the kids.

I agree that it would be strange for Decker to blame ND for Hinton and Warnnier's departures. If anyone pulled the carpet out from under him, it appears to be the coaches.

Decker also has to keep in mind that coaching changes happen everywhere and they will happen at OSU. Warnnier is especially likely to jump ship. He has OC experience, was a scucessful run game coordinator at ND for a big name coach, and will now be an assistant to the biggest name coach: Urban Meyer.

It is one thing if the OC (here, Kelly, not Molnar) left and the team was changing offensive philosophies. That is not happening.

It is one thing if you are jumping to a similar school (say, Alabama to Auburn). That is not the case here.

The x-factor seems to be that everyone in Ohio loves OSU. Decker will please a lot of people if he jumps aboard.

I hope he doesn't. He seems like ND kid to me.

Go Irish!

I would be bummed if he switched to OSU but it would be hard to blame the kid.

Really? I guess "blame" might be a bit much. It's his decision. But I'd definitely be disappointed. I can understand coaches leaving for OSU more than players. Coaches are mercenaries and can come and go as they please. For kids, it's a commitment that is (typically) a one-time thing that will impact the rest of their lives. I would assume that a kid that originally chose ND did so for reasons beyond who his position coach would be. That may not be true for all kids at all schools, but ND kids are generally a different breed. And it's hard to imagine a bigger compromise of the values that usually attract kids to ND than switching to OSU. Time will tell. If he is an "ND-type" of kid, he'll reflect on the decision and ultimately end up Irish.

well said, Rhode Irish...you only need to look to the reactions of other o-line recruits who committed to ND, and not a person.

It is possible that Taylor committed to Notre Dame much in the way that Louis Nix did during the coaching transition- to the school regardless of the coaching staff. That sort of commitment is admirable, but understandably much more rare. If Taylor committed partly because he really liked Warriner and or Hinton then it would be hard to blame him for taking that into consideration now. Relationships play a big role in recruiting.

It is my understanding that Meyer has been making a strong push for Taylor as of late and I would be surprised if Taylor hasn't been seriously considering flipping. Keep in mind that when Taylor committed to us he did not have an OSU offer and the OSU program was in turmoil. OSU under Meyer is a completely different suitor in some sense and they now also have the college coaches that Taylor was closest with.

So do I think that Taylor would lose out on an overall better life long decision by switching his commitment? Absolutely. But with everything that has changed in the last month or so it would be difficult to blame an in-state kid for flipping.

I REALLY want this kid to remain Irish. I hope he realizes that he is a part of a great class of talented young men coming in that will be truly special and help continue to turn our program around. I can understand why he might be a little upset, but I hope he understands that Notre Dame is a special place that will offer him a rewarding life changing experience that can't be matched by anyone else. Hopefully when it's all said and done he remains Irish. We could sure use him for sure.

I want this kid to remain Irish, but we should not go all freaky if he decides to change. Let's remember he is from Ohio. His position coach just went to OSU. Urbie the Liar is going to sell him all kinds of BS.

Finally, if he leaves we may even decide not to get another OL and go get a playmaker. Remember, we are deep on the OL finally. We have multiple OT with 4 years eligibility.

Stay calm!!

Don't worry Johnny i think this kid is intelligent enough to see what went down. Why would you want to be apart of the chaos that is going to happen at OSU.

I'd love to know where we stand on hiring a few more assistants.

Martin visited him. He said the visit made him feel alot better about the situation. Says he still needs to talk to parents about it and he still needs to see who they hire for O-line. He says he feels much better and has a better grasp of the situation.

A more positive position, but still on the fence...

A more positive position, but still on the fence...

I'm off the road, so I feel a little better posting now.

I would agree that his position seems to be on the fence, but I would be in the same boat as he is right now. I graduated from ND, but as a football player, having the right system and right position coach is crucial. I love ND, and this has nothing to do with ND as a school. As a football player, I would want to know who my position coach is going to be and how I can expect to be developed over the course of my time there.

I guess what he is saying is that the ball is in Kelly's court as far as who he hires?
