Which of these bowl games remaining in 2011 interests you most? - Sportsnation - ESPN

Poll on ESPN homepage is what bowl game remaining in 2011 are you most looking forward to?
ND v FSU is in the lead by a lot.

I think smacking around FSU will be the tipping point when a lot of "People in the Know" start realizing ND is well on the way back to being a national powerhouse.

Here's to hoping thats what happens.

If we "Smack" Florida State around which we most likely WONT (Go figure huh) I would hardly say we are on our way to national prominence. We have a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way to go before that my friend and it's not about to start next year that's for sure. I like your wishful thinking though. I wish I could have as much faith as you do.

^yeah this. I wish I was confident enough to say we'll smack em but I don't think thats realistic. We can hope a few more of them get some felony charges :)
And like you said, even if we do:
1) They'll all say, "of course ND should have beaten FSU, they were terrible all year".
2) We'll still be a ways from national prominence.

I think Cierre Wood will go off tomorrow and that will open up the play-action. The biggest key to winning this game will be to stop Manuel

I can honestly say that I don't really care if ND wins this game. I just want the QB position solidified. If Tommy can show up and play well, then it will prove me and many others wrong re: his ability to play against good defenses. If he doesn't, well I can't wait for the Hendrix/Golson era.

I care. If we win then it will be 9 games. 8 then 9 then there's magic in the air. 8 then 8 and we'll be chewing on our fingernails worrying.

And I doubt that there will be any smacking around either way. Both of these programs are building with really stud athletes. Both of them are coming back [in their different styles and "values"]. In a couple of more years nobody is going to be anxious to play either one.

We could use the win more than FSU. FSU has cachet in Florida and elsewhere plus don't-really-care attitudes towards students, so even the most egregious illegal and immoral activities make no difference ultimately to them [let alone a loss in a bowl game]. We on the other hand need to sustain the vision that you can beat an FSU and still give-a-damm about larger issues.

Unfortunately the Devil wins at least as many as he loses on this level, but not necessarily this upcoming game. Let's go young men --- even if you don't realize it, you're playing for something bigger than the game: the demonstration that against the odds you can still succeed extraordinarily and keep your higher values.

Sorry Mike, I see where you're coming from, but I disagree. We stake our values every time we play the teams on our schedule not named Stanford, or one of the academies. As you might have noticed, it hasn't gone well so far. That's not to say it can't be turned around, but a meaningless bowl game won't prove anything either way.

we ain't smacking anyone anymore with Rees as QB. the script has been written on how to stop him and our offense. it's time to move on.

Couldn't agree more, Mike. Well said. Time to go out and lay a beating on Free Shoes U.

May was just discussing the Floyd/Greg Ried matchup op the outside. I am curious to see ow this pans out considering he is 5'8'' and Floyd is 6'3''. May compared Reid to Darryl Green--a bit lofty but what can you expect from May Day. If he can take Floyd 1 on 1 that may cause coverage issues for the Eifert. But they still have to respect Floyd and give safety help regardless.

Lou of course liked ND and also thinks Hendrix starts the 2nd half.

Depression? No. I can't wait for it to end.

September through December is the time for dream-crushing reality checks and wasted potential. Our rivals thrive and ND struggles; GSR and 30y ROI success are cold comforts. I can't take another dagger from Michigan.

The off-season is full of hope and dreams of what could be, completely unspoiled by our curse. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm absolutely on the same wave length. I'm always optimistic in the offseason, always feeling great about what will happen. Heck, even after the inevitable first bad loss each season I still feel optimistic. But after the inevitable second bad loss of the season I quickly recede into a dark mood on Saturday afternoons. The wins feel empty and the last minute losses or blowouts when the team can't muster 100 yards of offense are cause for laughter--not "oh man, that's hilarious" laughter but "Oh God, that's just great...saw that coming from a mile away and I still can't believe it" laughter, the laughter of a broken man getting another piece of bad news.

I can honestly say that I don't really care if ND wins this game. ...

Then why the **** are you here?

To see that the QB position is solidified? What about Center? WLB? The Secondary? A Punt Return? A Rushing Attack? Defensive Turnovers? ND has a bunch of areas to improve to be successful in big games. QB is just one of them.

If Rees plays well the game should be won. If he doesn't, you don't have to wait for the Hendrix/Golson era, it's already here.

Is it too late to nominate, "I can honestly say that I don't really care if ND wins this game." for Stupidest Post of the Year?

Let's start with some predictions.

I'll go ND 23 FSU 13

I really think that they will struggle to score.

I could easily see us holding FSU to 13 points or less.

I just don't know if a Tommy Rees-led offense can put up 23 on FSU without Cave and Jonas.

Tommy torched an excellent defensive team from Florida in last year's bowl, so I'll just put my faith in the coaching staff and hope we're properly prepared. If we come out with the same game plan we used against BC and Stanford, it's going to be a long game.

No predicitions from me,we play better when I don't predict.

I'm so mad I have to work tomorrow during the game.I work home theatre at a Best Buy so I have the opportunity to partially watch it while working, but should I just try and ignore it and watch it fully on DVR after work? I am so torn...

I'm going to second that. A lot of people on this board recognize how good Notre Dame's defense has been but, externally, many people do not. It could be a big game for the defense given another month of growth for that young d-line, bangs and bruises healing and perhaps the feelings of disappointment owing to unfulfilled expectations have softened.

The offense is a crapshoot but the defense could be stellar. I don't have prediction of the final score and who will win but I will say that Florida State's offense will score less than 17. **Note that I said Florida State's offense will score less than 17. I'm not going to say that their defense or special teams, sans field goals, might not score some points.

Well, they're going to come out with the same QB that they started against BC and Stanford so.....

I'm really excited to see our defense against a depleted FSU offensive line and I expect the D do hold them to a pretty low score, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about Tommy Rees against such a fast and physical defense. He's been lucky enough to be protected very well all year (up until the last 2 weeks), but when he's getting hit he's a completely different quarterback. He just doesn't seem to have the ability to take hits and still retain enough confidence to make good decisions. I hope we see a good dose of Hendrix.

You can turn it on every tv so everyone in the store has to watch and so if you are helping a costumer you can still see it.

I am not predicting a score. But as long as well don't turn the ball over 3 or more times the game should be good.

So who do we think has a "statement" game tonight for our Irish - just a little something to whet our appetites for next year? I wouldn't mind GAIII showing us a little something out of the backfield.
