Question about Champs Bowl opponent

I keep seeing FSU as the ACC rep for the Champs Bowl. Although that would be the most optimal opponent, why isn't Virginia now slated to go there? The bowl is BE #2 vs ACC #3, so I don't see how UVA (5-2) is behind FSU (5-3) after beating them.

The Champs Sports Bowl has third pick from the ACC teams available, not that they have to take the #3 ACC team. Similar to ND's situation, the bowl can either have second pick for a Big East team or choose ND (once every 4 years)..

They would still more than likely take FSU over UVA because the game is in Orlando and would be a better draw if it was ND vs FSU and not ND vs UVA.

It's my understanding that the bowl gets to pick the teams, not the standings. Meaning the champs sports bowl has the third pick of an acc team, and will probably match up FSU with ND because it is the matchup that will generate the most revenue, regardless of the fact that UVA is higher standing wise the FSU

that's the matchup i want...home run if we win for recruiting. could be bad with a loss, but that's a chance you have to take.

Ehh, I'd rather play Virginia and smoke them personally. The level of athleticism on FSU's team will make Rees struggle mightily in my opinion.

Agree. FSU might be struggling this year, but they have more athletes and probably more overall talent than ND. Plus, FSU destroyed BC at BC on a Thursday night and well we pissed the bed against BC.

And they lost to Wake Forrest.

No one passes on ND. The nonchampionship bowl games are all about filling stands and money bags.

Totally agree. I'd rather play Virginia OR if UVa beats Tech a top 15 ranked Tech team. We would probably beat either Virginia or Tech and Tech would be another win over a top 25 team. FSU very well may have 5 losses heading into the game but the "talent" of a top 25 team... and we all see how that plays out when teams get up for Notre Dame.

Pray for Virginia to beat Tech and I think we end up playing the Hokies.

prolly just covering their rear in case ND goes to the BCS...i think a win over FSU, even though its a more challenging game, would do more for the future of the program than a win over Virginia...jmo

I agree that FSU is a tougher opponent, but hope nobody is automatically writing off UVA as a win just because they don't have prestigious name recognition. It would still be tough-sledding to get a W IMO.

If theres one thing I've learned about college football it's that the transitive property does not apply. Even if FSU destroyed BC, that doesn't mean they will do the same with us since we struggled with BC. Truth be told, we struggle with BC a LOT, more so than we should. Do I think we would crush FSU? Certainly not, they've got a ton of talent. I would like to see the game though and extract some past revenge, but I think our players could be competitive at least. So far there hasn't been a game this year that wasn't winnable, we tended to beat ourselves in the 3 losses this season.

I totally agree with Lax's post. I would love to get a shot at VT, and I think the bowl would actually consider inviting a top-15 VT over an unranked FSU, whereas a barely-ranked UVA would probably not get the nod over FSU to play a game in Orlando.

So Virginia beats FSU in Tallahassee and some of you would rather "whoop" Virginia then to play a talented FSU team? Im confused.

I think we would match up with a UVA team better than a FSU team.

I think the problem with FSU would give us is that they do have a QB that can run if needs to be.

I don't see any way that UVA is invited and FSU is not, though, so this is probably strictly a hypothetical.
