I posted this on another string, but it belongs here.

I don't think our staff's opinion is so clear cut. I see it a little different:

(1) We initially had 2-3 DLine spots, one or two were reserved for an Armistead/Jones type monster DE, one for everyone else, especially interior linemen.
(2) We liked Schutt and Day, among others, and offered both as an interior lineman
(3) Day beat Schutt to the punch

Plus...

(4) When we passed on Schutt, our situation was different:
- our likely 5th year list was different.
- our Commitment/Prospect list was different.
- Shwenke looked like a sure-fire rotation player.

To me, based on the conditions on the ground and our depth at DLine , I have no issue whatsoever calling up Schutt and re-opening the offer, Chase Hounshell style. I would always err on the side of D-lineman, especially one who could potentially play OG. If we got Schutt and still got Armistead, Schutt or Jones could play OLine.

But isn't this what we were all raising hell about earlier in the year? That we don't know what the future will bring and should have taken him for that very reason.

Totally agree with this. I think our staff should seriously consider reopening his offer.

I thought we should have taken him before though, so what do I know?

Just because we reopen his offer doesn't mean he is willing to come to ND anymore. We may have changed his opinion permanently.

Maybe, but scUM pulled theirs too. PSU was his best option at the time and he verballed because he felt like he was running out of time to go to a premier program (bizarre situation for a 5*). He looked like he was going to commit to us before getting his offer pulled, then scUM followed suit. I'm betting that Kelly is savvy enough to explain the situation to him and get him on board. I'de lay a bet on it.

He wont come to ND. I think Wisconsin or Iowa will become a player if he reopens.

I wouldn't say never, its very similar to the Chase Hounshel situation from last year.

Not saying your wrong by any means. Just saying with kids at that age its easy to hold a grudge.

I grew up about ten mintues from Mr. Schutt and from what i was told there's no way. Staff just liked Sheldon and Jarron more. Time to move on.

It's not like Jones and Day are low 3 stars players here. They are both top players at their position...

Per rivals article ND, Michigan, Michigan State could get re involved. Some rumors might be false some might be true. Schutt is being kept quiet. Ill ask around at home see if i can dig up anything. But the way Schutt rushed his recruitment this will be on to keep a eye on.

Michigan missed on a DT they thought they were going to land so I could see him going there..... that would suck hard.

I'd take him. Assuming we bring back Cwynar, we'll still be 4-deep at NT in 2012 without Schutt, but 2013 could be scary if we skip on a NT completely this year. With Cwynar gone and Stockton unlikely to get a 5Y, we'd be down to just Nix, Springmann, and any true freshman we bring in next cycle.

Much could depend on how frequently the staff plans to use Tuitt at NT. Tuitt's flexibility likely makes Schutt a luxury.

I would love to have this kid on our team. I don't care how well he fits, blah, blah, blah. All I know is that he looks, plays and acts like Zorich and we could use some of that.

Plus... maybe he could bring back the potbelly/cut-off jersey look.

This could get interesting.

Schutt was a half hour away from committing when we pulled his offer.

Could he really forgive us? I'd certainly take him but MSU is the one out of those 3 that didn't tell him not to come.

Yea, I can't see him coming here after what happened. Love to have him but I really don't see happening.

Stranger things have happened.

Chase Hounshell, for example.

He's a young man about to make a 40 year decision... sometimes you have to swallow your pride.
