He takes the top kids out of Florida all the time. He keeps kids in state a lot too i am not sure what your trying to say.
I guess I'm trying to say he has an advantage in being a state school in a huge recruiting hot bed. Also, the close proximity of the state to the recruiting hot bed of Florida.

Basically is Mack Brown a good recruiter? Or is the location of his school? Same with Richt? What came first the chicken or the egg?

I will say that if Coach Kelly had the failed drug test results of Floyd, Manti, and Ress and still started them vs. USC - the press would be all over us... Seems like Richt just did that and so far it appears the press is giving him a free press. I would not care if this was happening in conf USA or what not, but this is the SEC - how is Florida not b*tching up a storm???

You can have all the talent in the world all you want and recruit the best you still have to coach them up. Look at Notre Dame look at Florida State in recent years for example.

Fair, but still not sure if Richt is a good recruiter or if it's because he is the coach of UGA and has the upper hand in getting Georgia talent to come to UGA.

Mark Richt will be at Georgia for a long time. Too good of a recruiter and heck of coach.

Richt was 8-5 in 2009, and 6-7 in 2010. Another 8-5 finish could definitely see him fired.

Yeah, and I thought Tuberville was staying @ Auburn for a while. Not saying Richt won't be there for a long time, just something to think about.

I think he will still stay on at 8-5 this year - if that is where GA ends up - I just think he needs to thank his lucky stars that he does not have to face Bama and LSU this year... I see them losing to Auburn and GT and after a bowl win - ending at 9-4. If they did have to play Bama and LSU - this would probably be Richt's last year...

I agree. But I just don't see this team finishing 8-5. They SHOULD not lose to NMSU, SHOULD beat Auburn, Kentucky and finish the season beating Tech to finish at 10-2.

But we all know why they fired Tuberville...

The Florida win saved his bacon for this week. He better win out or he is gone. I also believe that he will not be there when Keith Marshall graduates. There are too many people not happy with the performance on or off the field. No one discount the fact that he is a good man. The suspension situation, should it turn out that he knew about the rules violation, would be out of character for Richt. But, people do things out of character to save their jobs.

He's actually been criticized for poor in-state recruiting. Tennessee goes into Georgia routinely. Stanford's been making in-roads there. We've gotten TJ and Tuitt in recent years. Alabama got Geno Smith.

Alot of this has to do with the integrity of CMR himself. He refuses to offer a kid unless he is 100% sure he can honor that offer. Bama and company swoop in early and hand out offers like candy, knowing they will just "trim the fat" later. Richt has said numerous times that they lose out on some of the homegrown talent simply because he can't in good conscience offer them that early. Kudos to him for refusing to sink to their level.

*He just signed the "Georgia Dream Team" last year too (Crowell, Rome, Drew), so the argument he can't recruit GA is nonsense.

I'm thinking that Marshall is this year Teo and will shock us all

That would be amazing. Anything can happen that is for sure. I remember when we all thought Manti would head to the west coast. I didn't feel like we really had a shot and then he committed to us. Just goes to show that with some kids you never know. Getting Marshall would be incredible, but there is a long ways to go still and we know that he really has Georgia on his mind. He would be a great get..., but I don't know what the likelihood of getting him would be. Neverthelss we will have a solid recruiting class in February with or without Keith.

Keith said in a twitter a few days ago that he is planning on committing in early December:

@Truthh4 Keith Marshall
Another rumor that I'm suppose to be committing this week.. not true folks I'm waiting until early December

That was back on October 31st. Te'O didn't know where he was going until the night before NSD.

That maybe true, but he did say that before he visited SB he was going to commit to USC. And even after his visit to SB, he wasn't immediately sure where he wanted to go until after he prayed about it.

I guess my point is that although Marshall seems to be a Georgia lean, you never know. 17 year old kids are unpredictable.

Don't get me wrong, I 100% agree with you. Just playing Devil's Advocate for a second, I don't think him committing in early December is a good sign for us. If he waited to NSD then I'd give ND a stronger chance.

Like you said though, anything can happen when a 17 year old is making a decision like this.

Yeah, I also think it'd be better for us if he waited. Give our recruits more time to get to him.

I'm really hoping for a Kiel commitment soon though. I think that would help sway some recruits that are in wait and see mode.

That's just flat out not true. This year is the first time since 1988 that Georgia beat Florida and Tennessee in the same year. He brought in a top 5 class last year and is in line for a nice class this year.

People speaking about his inability to recruit in state are also off base. Look at his class last year, the top recruits in that class were all from Georgia. He pulled Crowell over Saban and Alabama after going 6-7 and losing to UCF in a bowl game. The state of Georgia is loaded with talent. It is impossible to pull every elite prospect out of a state that turns out that much talent. Urban Meyer never pulled every top talent out of Florida, nor did Tressell out of Ohio.

It's fun for ND fans to point out why he should be on the hot seat because of how it benefits their team. Truth is, he absolutely was on the hot seat after the first two weeks of the season. Now, he's not. If he loses out then bring it up again. To say that if he doesn't win out this year he'll be gone, is nonsense.

Excellent post. Richt will be the coach next year barring any insane upset like NMSU or Kentucky, with high expectations for Georgia next year.
