For all the positivity this board offers, I am sick of how Crist is

continually labelled as a headcase, mentally weak, loser and the sort. You may feel Rees is better option. You may feel Crist hasn't played well...but to leap to the conclusion of headcase, mentally weak, loser and the sort is frankly out of line...and I just can't believe it has become acceptable to present this blatant fallacy as support for an argument. Crist is one of us and he has carried himself in a manner that I wish some of you could emulate.

I agree that I don't like the "headcase" comments, but it does appear that he finds ways to screw up, no? We all know he can physically do it so that leaves really only the mental aspect.

And where the hell did this come from?

I actually agree with the content of this post, but come on man. Really? This is how you choose to say it? Y'all going to make me seem like I'm crazy for liking Dayne.

Exactly. What's that thing comics always say? It's all about timing and delivery? I'm guessing the OP here is not a comic...

Dayne's been the unluckiest player I can remember and his career at ND has been somewhat of a disappointment up to now. But that can change very quickly. To me, he actually is the opposite of a loser... he has overcome incredible adversity and battled back while staying/supporting the team. This kid's football career most definitely is not over and could surprise all of us if he ever feels comfortable on the field.

Look man, to say this subject has been beaten to death would be an understatement. I'm as big a Dayne supporter as anyone else on this board. I love the guy and wish he could mentally be as gifted as he is physically. Do I think he got a fair shake this year? No. But it's not going to change. Rees is Kelly's guy and in turn, our guy.

Good to see there are sensible Dayne fans on here.

...... this thread is still ridiculous.

I was reading a thread post game comment thread...and the topic of Rees and Crist came up...and before you know it..someone remarks about Crist's meltdown and mental state. I don't want to stir the post...just think we need lay off inferring Crist is some kind of headcase.

Yes, Crist hasn't played up to standards for one half and one drive of football this year but so has the team...so why single out Crist for being a headcase.

Considering how acceptable the fallacy has become, I thought it needed to be pointed out. Maybe I need to work on presenting in a more tactful manner...but I just think it is so wrong how this kid is talked about.

Sorry for the tone. Just pissed.

Hey man, I feel ya. And when somebody says something out of line about Dayne, by all means feel free to call them out. It's easy for a bunch of internet heroes to call him a headcase when they know they'll never have to step into those situations.

At the same time, you have to admit that it's pretty evident confidence is a big issue with Crist. You ask me, he was mishandled by Kelly to the detriment of the team. But regardless, he did get a shot (definitely not an equal one) and it didn't work out. Sucks, because this team would be undefeated if Crist was our starter AND he was playing up to his potential. Tommy is doing more with less, which ultimately limits us, but at the same time I understand why BK would opt for the consistent goodness* of Rees over the potential greatness of Crist.

If this were hockey and we had an 82 game season, I guarantee Crist would be the go to guy by the end. As it is, one half of football is more of a tryout than most guys get.

*not that I'm saying Rees is consistently good. Just not sure how else to say it.

I don't get why Crist is a head case where Tommy isn't. Didn't Crist look great in his start vs. Michigan last year? Didn't he throw a 95 yard, go-ahead TD with under 4 minutes left in a game, throwing out of his own endzone last year? Didn't he strap up with a moment's notice and come into the USC game and march us down to the one yard line? Did botching the snap in the USC game screw him up more? I don't think so considering he looked solid yesterday. Oh, that's right. He threw an interception in the first game of the year. That's it, yep, he must be a head case.

BK says something early in the year about how Tommy doesn't get rattled by the situation and some fans interpret that as Crist is a head case compared to Tommy. Sociology 101 and the problem with labeling someone. And for saying the guy who started this thread had no point, really? I mean, I've literally been labeled 'negative waves' courtesy of our ever so creative mods and even I am agreeing that some of you sports psychologists should lay off with the 'Crist just doesn't have the mental makeup to play football at this level'.

He is being singled out because he is the quarterback. That is usually a position that is singled out in football. The "one drive of football" you are referring to was a 14 point swing, and ARGUABLY cost us the game. I'm not saying I disagree with your post, but don't understate the magnitude of his mistakes.

I agree though confidence is an issue with any player.

Yes. He screwed up and it was the turning point of the game. I completely agree. My point is that when Crist makes a mistake he is accused of being a headcase...or he suffered a mental meltdown. Criticize his play not his mental state.

Agreed, and I think because he was pulled after the first half of the first game, the mental thing just compounded on him from others. Its unfortunate, but I don't think he is going to get a chance to prove otherwise.

Reasonable huh? I'm so humbled I'm speechless right now, such an improvement. I'd like to thank God, first and foremost, my family, couldn't have done it without my friends.

It was obvious he was pressing when came into the USC game. On a literary sense, he is such a tragic figure. Can you imagine the degree to which he wants to redeem himself for his mistakes? In a way I hope an oppurtunity does come up for him...but can you image the self pressure if it did.

I wish Kelly would play him a series or two just to relieve that immense pressure. It will also keep him prepared if he needed to come in for an extended period of time.
