If you cant take anything more positive out of that game then you didnt watch the game. Compared to a Charlie Weis lead team, we were vastly improved. Cierre Wood wasnt explosive? Maybe you were tuned into a different game. The kid was damn close to amazing everytime he touched the football.
Armando shyed away from running holes? He ran for almost 100 yards on 18 carries and they didnt run to many sweeps. Everything was thru the middle.
Manti Teo overrated?? He was in the right spot all game. He was anxious and over pursued on a few plays.
Calabrese is a redshirt sophmore. He's a physical ILB. He isn't as fast as the OLB's but made a lot of solid tackles all day.
Rudolph is overrated?? You stand alone on that one.
Pass rush was so-so? Marve is a very mobile qb. Maybe besides D. Robinson the most mobile we will see all year. 4 sacks and 2 int's!! Our front three played great.

Why is that? He did a good job of coming up and forcing the action. Closed on the ball very well too. Made a couple of very good tackles, and played well overall. Nothing really got back to that level. Again, why is he a liability?

Fleming was disrupting alot of plays as were the rest of the OLB who forced alot of plays back insdie. Were they expose at times? yes but awful is a stretch

The secondary was solid and played off alot which is why the underneath passes were there, thats football

The Purdue QB was 31-42 for 220 and 2 picks and the defense had alot to do with that.

Whew! I seriously don't know what game some of you were watching. As for that one guy with the long list of mostly pissy and always undefended observations goes...I think he must be a Michigan fan or just really really immature.

Cierre was really good...great vision and he cuts on a dime.

Some of those holes AA and Wood were running through were huge, but to the rbs credit they were hitting them at the perfect moment.

Braxton Cave: double plus good.

Every one of Mant's "missed tackles" forced the ball carrier towards defensive traffic, he was reading and filling holes superbly. Don't fall into the "when a Notre Dame ball carrier makes somebody miss it is a great move but when a opponent does the same it is a missed tackle" trap. There will always be missed tackles, but if our guy is forcing the ball carrier to run back into traffic, it is not a big deal.

Ian Williams was really effective taking up space and moving the pile...just what a nose tackle needs to do.

Is it too late to give Ruffer a scholarship?

You know what is awesome? The errors we need to correct for the most part are little things. We didn't look hapless in any one area. Gary Gray and Darrin Walls did well as a cornerback tandem. The defensive line got 4 sacks. Cierre Wood and Armando Allen were a great 1-2 punch. Crist did pretty well for his first start. TJ Jones looks like a great player. Martin and Dever did well. We can actually return kicks and we have a kicker that can make long field goals. The little things are not making stupid mistakes *coughfloydfumblecough* and staying focused. Kelly can fix these easily.

I'm very excited for the Skunk Bears game.

See a lot of posts worried about Michigan's 'running' quarterback for next week. I can see why the worry because of our past coaches.

After seeing the 'coaching' abilities of Kelly and his new staff, I would believe that the proper adjustments will be made to keep Robinson contained as much as possible. I have to keep reminding myself as well that this is a 'work in progress' for the Irish this year and I really like what I watched today - granted a few hiccups.

one thing to remember, is unlike 90% of other teams, the first game was NOT the worst team we play, so dont think the season is lost because of one bad half, IMO Kelly was playing to hold the lead, not to get the ball back, i didnt like that, but it got us the win, and didnt a great 4th down stand happen in the second half? still a good idea for a thread to get people talking!
