I'm on board for:

field turf
jumbo-tron
music

Keep the band a big part of the gameday atmosphere but there's nothing wrong with 3rd down music.

I'm relieved that has become more and more of a possibility. Hope to see some changes for next year.

Seriously? Why do any of you give a **** what kind of grass is on the field?

Kelly wants Field Turf, most teams have it, get over it.

Either personal preference or tradition.

I personally prefer grass, but I wouldn't go on a tirade if we had some sort of fake grass.

Wow some one is in a bad mood. I like that fact that we still have real grass. Also i like that fact that while you are watching the games you can see the grass stains on the jerseys.

Field turf is a blessing. Having played on it a handful of times in college, I would have killed to have it at my home stadium. Just my humble opinion on it.

My only take on the subject...

We practice on field turf and play on real grass...can you say inconsistency?

I like grass, but our field is usually a mess by the end of the year. No problems with field turf. We're not Wisconsin where crappy weather/field conditions help us.

Not to be THAT guy, but shouldn't we worry about being a winning football team before we worry about the GODDAMN stadium? Just sayin

NDOM, stadium atmosphere is a part of becoming a winning team. Loud crowds cause false starts, inability to hear audibles, etc.

Also, if we practice on turf we should play on turf. Change one of them.

Not sure if you guys have ever been on the field at ND stadium but it's awful. Absolutely awful. You can kick up the grass with regular shoes, we're lucky someone has not gotten seriously hurt on it in the recent past. If there's anything that needs to be changed, the grass is right up there with it.

For those of you who are still in doubt, take a look at Lambeau Field. It's got the tradition of ND Stadium, yet they make the necessary renovations (including the turf) when necessary.

I'm game for Field Turf and a moderately sized Jumbo-Tron....but for God's sake...let's never play the intro to Crazy Train at ND stadium ever again.

I'm certain the University has enough people employed to be able to work on multiple projects at the same time.

Over the 20 some years, something changed profoundly about the ND psyche. ND became a powerhouse by being innovative in how it approached the game, most namely the forward pass.

Even throughout the years, ND tweaked things to remain current, yet we can't change our grass to something that's better? We can't add a jumbotron? We can't add more seats?

Look at the supposed America's teams. The Yankees just built a new stadium. The Cowboys launched the world's largest jumbotron.

Holding onto relics of the past don't make us necessarily better. It makes us more comparable to Penn State. Neither ND nor Penn St have been much better than slightly above mediocre for a decade. Let's not cling to the past like Joe Pa clings to his job.

The music selection and timing could certainly use some tampering, but the idea itself is fine.

If the players and coaches want it and are lobbying for it, who are we as fans to argue? The kids play on it and the coaching know what a good atmosphere will do for recruiting and game day.

I'm definitely in for the music. It will be interesting to see if they play it tomorrow I wanna hear "Drunken Lullabies" by Flogging Molly though...

I was anti turf and tron, but I'm coming around a little.

I would prefer hybrid, because it still looks like grass. I still don't know if a jumbotron is really necessary though. Let's beat the sh!t out of Navy.

I appreciate and admire the initiative of these students. A sampling of the student body is a logical starting point for the fledgling project. I reserve judgement on any results until a broader spectrum of those who attend the games is polled and the data analyzed.

Polling other schools' marketing approaches could garner useful information, but the crux of the matter is this: will it truly be applicable to the core of fans, outside of the student body, who attend the games?

Increasing the capacity of the stadium would certainly increase revenue, but would it increase the level of excitement and noise? Not unless the dreaded blue hair "down-in-front" paying attendees are replaced with rabid, full throated (paying) fanatics. Is there a guarantee that that would happen? I don't think so.

As far as large video displays go, why don't we enlist the engineering departments to design a cantilevered support system to suspend a support system high above the playing surface (be it grass or artificial turf) that can hold four screens, is viably fed with power and video feeds while being efficiently removable during non-game times and severe weather.

Maybe some of the music should include some kick-*** Big Band and some Inna Gada Da Vida passages to bridge the generation gap.

As a side note: the new artificial turf in the Minneapolis Metrodome looks like sh'it. Should you find yourself watching a Viking's home game, check it out.

The Notre Dame Victory March has a Winning Percentage better than 73%.

What's Ozzy Osborne's Winning Percentage?

Over 120 of schools have jumbotrons including Division II Pittsburg State.

67 Div 1 Programs have a bigger jumbotron than Alabama's. 10 Div 1AA programs have bigger jumbotrons than Alabama's.

Mississippi St's jumbotron is 7.5 times the size of Bama's. Bama still wins whether in T'Town or Starkville. And Bear Bryant would still win whether he was coaching HIS OR THEIR'S. It's still the size, talent, and speed of your players, the ability of the coaching staff, and the team's execution that matter.

Connecticut, Syracuse, Navy, Tulsa, and too many others have had no jumbotron, no piped in music, no towels, no band, and only 5,000 fans or less yet they still won in Notre Dame Stadium.

The Titanic had a live band and best ship built to that time yet made their "game day adjustments" with the same lack of speed and indecisiveness that Captain Diaco did against Navy's immoveable objects. 99 years later execution still counts more than rearranging the deck chairs but it easier to move the deck chairs and it "looks" good.

I don't care what the surface is, who the D.J. is, or whether the fans where depenz and need a change ... EXECUTE the damn plays!

Yet the team still loses. ( I would like to see where you got all those statistics too btw) Comparing apples to oranges here.

Change is needed. We are too old fashioned and it's getting us NOWHERE!

I've never been to ND Stadium, so I am going to take your guys' word for it. It would be nice to see field turf on TV though.
