Kap will be back. Depth is imperative.

Seriously, I know these incoming guys are going to be good but can anyone really think that if someone goes down that we will be perfectly fine starting freshman D-lineman? Not even Tuitt start starts.

It's a unofficial.

Unofficials still get free tickets! They get up to 5 tickets I think. At least last year they did. They get the full tour, presentation at the Guge, and are on the sidelines during pre game.
I think they even get a small bag lunch. I went on one last year with one of my players at ND for the UM game.

KLM is a 300lb D-end that is a gap fitting machine. I know everyone loves Lynch and Tuitt but there is no way they will have the knowledge, experience, or leadership that Kap brings on that line.

Crist is a 6'4"/240 pound QB with a rocket arm. I know everyone loves Rees and the young guys but there is no way they will have the knowledge, experience or leadership that Dayne brings on that offense.

Again, totally agree with you dude. But I have a feeling about this one and we have seen crazier things happen. There are no guarantees in college football.

If Kap doesn't go pro, and wants to play again and doesn't come back, then it will be due to a magnificent plan no other people in the world besides the devil and Kelly have planned.

All good points. I'm not saying that any or all of them (Cave, Slaughter, or KLM) will be gone. I'm just saying that depending on who bites, decisions will be hard. Consider this scenario. If you are down to 2 spaces, and you have 3 or 4 of the following saying yes.... Anglor, Marshal, Shaq, Theus, Banner, Treggs.... what then.

Depending on the situation, I can see Kelly passing on KLM or Cave.... especially if KLM is predicted to go in the first 3 rounds. If I'm KLM, I would get while the gettin's good as his playing time will lessen due to Lynch and Tuitt. Kelly and the other coaches have raved about Heggie, but I can see an OT/OG converted as well.

Again, not wishing any of these guys gone... but crazier things can happen. I think we'll see at least a couple transfers as well, hopefully making a situation like the above moot. Crist is likely gone. Wouldn't be supprised if Massa left too with the WRs in front of him. If GK joined, wouldn't doubt if Hendrix or Golson jumped.

Dayne has leadership skills? Why hell has he never used them then? Go watch the USF game again.

If KLM is projected to go in the first three rounds it would be his decision to stay or go, not BK deciding for him. I also don't get that you are saying Kap may be good enough to be taken in the first 3 rounds of the draft but he is not good enough to get PT over Lynch and Tuitt?

Cave is argueably our first or second best lineman, I wouldn't take a chance on a guy who hasn't even seen the field yet becoming our new center.

Transfers are a definite possibilty so more positions could open.

I just don't see Crist coming back. He's already #3 on the depth chart and will fall to #4 next year.

Cave should be back unless one of the younger OL's develops physically. A 19 or 20 year old rarely has the same strength as a 21 or 22 year old. When it comes to playing the OL strength is a big key for the run game.

I would say it's 50/50 on Kiel coming to South Bend right now. One thing in our favor is the proximity of South Bend to Columbus, IN. He eliminated Oklahoma because of the travel time for his parents to come and watch the games. Bama would be a longer drive then South Bend, but nothing like OU. The electricity tomorrow night with the new helmets, night game and all the other top recruits being on hand should help our chances. I would aslo expect him to attend the Bama/LSU game.

Hendrix is not going anywhere. He's pre-med. As has been pointed out before here at IE.

So, I saw Gunner's thread up at the top of the front page, and I was like "oh, God. Here we go again..."

Then I looked closer and saw "(offer)" and then I went from annoyed to ecstatic. And now he will be among the visitors this weekend? Geez. There will be a national championship team sitting in the student section Saturday night (or wherever the recruits are sitting).

I know the staff wants another RB in this class, but is that vital to pick one up? Next year we'll have Cierre (Sr), Cam Roberson (Jr), Cam 2 (So), GAIII (So), Mahone (Fr). I know they'd welcome either Marshall with open arms, but let's say we strike out on them? We'll still have better depth at RB then we do right now.

I mean, you just can't pass up a 6'5" QB with a laser rocket arm (think P Manning commercial), in-state that runs the spread and is athletic/somewhat fast.
The RB depth isn't good and RB's don't come back from major knee injuries very well or often and with Roberson with 2 major one's in such a short time I'm convinced that he won't be the player anywhere near the player he was suppose to be.

That said you take Keil no matter what but more RB's are needed.

Do you think people saying we might pass on Kiel because of QB depth also thought we could pass on Clausen because of Fraser, Jones, and Sharpley?

Crist isn't coming back and he's why. He will already have a valuable ND degree in hand and if he has the desire to play football he can transfer to someplace where he can play next year and at the very least showcase himself to the NFL.

That opportunity has passed him by at ND as he's had his chances and never seized it.

I think a more apt analogy would be passing on Crist because we just got Jimmy, rather than the one you posted. In both cases, we just got a QB who was seen as "perfect" for the relative system and was handpicked by the new HC as his first QB (Golson in BK's case). Then, a five-star QB in the very next cycle with crazy good measurables and attributes is interested. No?

John Turner does not agree with this logic ;)

Sharpley was never a starting QB and it was clear that Frazer wasn't going to work out.

Doesn't matter how good of a leader you are. You can't lead from the bench.
