I didn't make a comment on him as a player other than his speed, and that he should benefit from Longo. Opinions aren't lectures, and this is a forum-no podiums in a forum.

Be happy that we have a blazing fast cornerback who is a freshman at a position of need with four years to grow into greatness and whom the staff likes.

I suppose summertime temperatures and ennui inspire desire for punching matches over a couple of tenths of a second in 40 times, but it seems an odd way to live.

I'm rooting for you Jalen; young superstud wearing the Blue And Gold. I want to see the back of your jersey streaking the ball into the endzone some day and the announcers finally saying: "you know, this Notre Dame team is surprisingly fast. I wasn't expecting this".

And guess what announcers? Neither were many of our fans.

Actually, I'm completely with amgarvey here. You started off your post saying that you 'were the only one who watches film around here'. Where did you get that?????? Plenty of guys watch film on this site. So you were way off there. And then you started telling, nay, lecturing us on the difference between speed and talent, as if we didn't know. In fact, please show me one post here that questioned his talent. Just one. All a couple of posters did was question the legitimacy of the time (and rightfully so), and EVERYONE agreed that it is awesome if he's as fast as advertised.

So, even though nobody was even talking about his talent, and nobody disagreed that he has speed, you antagonized the group for no reason by saying that we don't even watch film, and then proceeded to lecture everybody. In other words, you're jumping into a fight where there isn't even a fight to pick...

Do some homework. This is what i said. Which was in response to GBdomer saying he didn't believe the time reported because of the amount of film he watches.

I guess no one else on here watches film or anything of the sort. Just because it would make him the 6th fastest in the NFL last year means nothing. Speed doesn't always mean talent. There may have been 50 other people last year running that speed, but not talented enough for the NFL. This young man is 18 and just went through his first summer of a college lifting program. I for one am happy that he is one of the fastest on the team regardless of hand timed/electronic or using a sun dial. A couple years of conditioning and lifting should help this kid alot and good to hear that some of the "sleepers" from this class are more gifted than we knew.

Does anyone know how Jalen has been progressing? I can ask the same question about Josh Atkinson. ND replaces everyone but Slaughter next year (if he even comes back). Lo Wood seems to have a starting spot locked down. I'm just curious how these two frosh are coming along and how good their chances are of getting some significant pt, or even starting. (I'm exluding Eilar because of his injury).

We get Motta back, too.

I still want McCarthy back. I think the kid can play, when he gets on the field. I'm not saying I'd take him no matter what, but the scholarship situation is fluid at this point and depending on how things work out, if the possibility exists I'd like to see him finally get a chance to play.

Jalen is progressing very good. I got to hangout with Eilar and Jalen a bit before the MSU game with them being " redshirted". They are def a little disappointed not getting PT. Eilar is healing nicely and jalen said that Floyd is unreal but has got the best of him a few times. They are solid physically (no homo), and should be ready to get some good reps come fall. Spring will be very big for the secondary for obvious reasons, but we have dedicated kids now. Keeping them mentally engaged for the rest of the season will be key to get them experience vs one of the nations top offenses.

I would highly doubt Dmac is back next year with how this class should end up in Feb. There is a lot of talent in this yrs recruiting class and if all goes how i am hearing.....i think you will be very very content if Dmac isnt in the blue n gold

Thanks for info. Part of me hoped the frosh DBs would see some mop up duty just to get experience instead of redshirting. Or at the very least some ST reps. BK has mentioned numerous times that ST is what thrust BJax, Collinsworth and Wood into the DB mix this year. *I forgot about Motta coming back. Regardless, we return two safeties and no corners. I hope it pans out, because next year's schedule is brutal. It would've been comforting to know that our secondary has some game time experience. I would've been ok with burning the redshirts due to 2012 recruiting class being stockpiled with secondary depth/talent. Anyways, thanks again.

I know Eilar was on SpTeams, but as far as Josh/Jalen I believe its more of there are better people that can be on SpTeams. ala Jackson/Collinsworth. Like I said, these guys are practicing against our offense everyday and its def not game experience, but at the sametime they are learning the scheme/speed/work ethic. Its great that we do have talented kids and we dont have to play them asap. Letting them get bigger/stronger/mentally smarter are key for developing the team where we want this team. Playing guys too early has been a very common trend for ND the last 6-7 years. Even with a lack of depth with the CBs it is refreshing to know that we do not have to play kids right away. That is how you develop a program and dare i say a Dynasty..

That would be fine with me. I did say I would like to see McCarthy get an opportunity and I think he can play, but I qualified it depending on how other things hake out. If there isn't room for him because of a ridiculous haul of elite players that can step onto campus ready to play, you won't find me complaining.

From BGI article talking about which younger kids are impressing the staff:

“Once or twice a week … Coach Kelly will come to me and say, ‘Jalen’s going to be really special,’ ” Cooks noted.

He goes on to talk about how he has great feet and is very physical, having repeatedly made plays against Floyd and Eifert in practice.

Question on Jalen..

Didn't Kelly or one of the coaches once say jalen was the fastest player on the team? Thought I remembered hearing this.
