So I made a twitter just for following guys for recruiting news. Inexplicably, Shaq Thompson just became one of my like 10 followers.

If we land him it will clearly be because of my awesome tweeting skillz. You're all welcome.

He followed me too.

I'll give them credit for hanging in there for one half. And their unis.

Their unis are excellent. Really like them. As for the actual football, I was mostly watching the baseball game, but everytime I turned on the football Cal looked inept on both sides of the ball. Maybe I just happened to catch their 20 worst plays of the game.

It's funny because if ND got embarrassed and blown out like that we would all be in meltdown mode and it would be all over the media. With Cal, it's just totally expected and accepted.

In fact, I watch the game thinking "wow, if I was a recruit I'd want to go there because Cal is so bad I think I could play immediately."

Cal is probably telling their recruits the same thing.

I think it has got to the point where everyone knows that Oregon just scores lots of points regardless of how bad their beating you. I was impressed to turn on the game to see Cal leading, but clearly the better team ended up winning.

If we lost to Oregon like that...I'd just be sad.

Yeah, but at what point do you say "do i want to play early and suck or be on a good team and wait a little to play?" How big of an impact can Thompson and Treggs make?

Given how highly rated Shaq Thompson is, and our depth issues at DB (in addition to our need for playmakers at WR, RB, and returner -- all of which he could theoretically play), I'm confident the staff can pitch early playing time to Shaq even though we're not as hard-up as Cal. And they can point to Aaron Lynch, Stephon Tuitt, and Troy Niklas as concrete examples of freshman getting significant playing time and making an important contribution.

I live in the Northwest, and most of blogs I read out here indicate that Shaq is a Cal or UW lock...this may just be over enthusiastic fan chatter, but I sure wish someone could convince me otherwise. Would love to see this guy go Irish.

We're near the top w/o him having stepped foot on campus. A solid visit will do wonders. Not to mention he'll be here w/ Deontay and Tee. Long shot, yes. But it's far from a lock, imo.

We can also point to those guys as concrete examples of opposing qb pants-shitting inducing nightmares that will create tons of quick or errant throws>lots of opportunities for interceptions>lots of all american votes>lots of money in the nfl draft for Shaq.

Shaq's at the Cal game right now. I'm going to go out on a limb and say he's going to have a much better time at ND game.

Yeah he's got to notice Notre Dame stomping USC after USC stomps Cal.

That said I hope Cal comes back to wins this.

Why does everyone act like he is a Cal commit? Is he that much of a lean?

I think it's a good thing that he's there. He's at a game they're going to lose, the stadium looks like a glorified high-school stadium, if he leaves with any impression that's fine. He'll get blown away at the ND night game. It won't even compare.

Yeah, I'm sure he'll love the tranquil sounds of this...

Hopefully, cots will be available to "more advanced alumni".

exactly! if we want any shot of a BCS everyone on our schedule needs to win out besides when they play us...

That is what I mean. Besides that.. our rivalry will be that more passionate and meaningful if both sides are fielding great teams.

Back on topic though..

It seems like a lot of people are talking to Shaq about where he should end up. I know Tee and Deontay are talking to him. Wasn't Mahone as well? This upcoming game will be such a good platform to wrap up this recruiting class, as well as others to come.

Mahone was talking up Treggs. He may have been with Shaq too.

I believe Mahone was talking about recruiting K Marshall. Perhaps Treggs as well, but many were ecstatic that he wasn't afraid to recruit a guy at the same position when word got out he was helping w Marshall. Love this guy.

Mahone tweeted this last night:
Mahone:
My boy @BryceTreggs gonna join #NDNation after he sees what we do to USC

clashmore_mike posted it in the Cal/USC thread. Dont want to take credit for seeing it first.
