I agree that Riddick needs to touch the ball more, it will only open up more options for the offense. But I think BK is eluding to Hendrix, and ultimately Golson. (but I really believe Golson wont play this year, I really believe when Golson get his PT, he will make Cierre Wood type of impact)
but I digress...
If you saw the BK interviews on UND.com this week you see BK talking about how the QB position limits the play calling. In a very diplomatic way he described how now plays are called which require the QB to go thru a progression. The type of QB BK needs to run his offense is a "call it and haul it' type of QB. Which means BK calls a play, and after the snap if the play isnt there, the QB is to run with it. No progression needed, no procees to complete, either run the called-play, or run the ball. That called-play does not have a 2nd, 3rd, 4th option, it has one option, if that option is covered, the QB runs it (forcing a quick decision offensively). That scenario will cause the plays to be ran faster, more plays per game, and BK hopes it translate to more points. I laughed (in a good way) to myself when BK said that 30points werent enough, they need to score more.
By having a 'call it and haul it' QB, it now means he can call plays with no fear, without having to worry if the called-play is going to work or not, because there is always a built-in backup plan; and that backup plan is for the QB to tuck and run with it whenever the called-play isnt going to work.....a call it and haul it QB will speed the game up on the offense side of the ball, which will allow for opportunites to score points, BK wants 40+ per game.
If you havent yet, check out the BK interviews on UND.com, he was saying some really good stuff, and that is where I heard him talk about the 'call it and haul it' QB.
