Just heard that Spond is cleared to play this weekend but Nichols had shoulder surgery and is out for the year. It will be nice having Spond back.

EDit: Also Rabassa is out for the year after shoulder surgery.

as far as bulletin board material goes, that's pretty weak...

Yeah I was hoping for something more along the lines of "**** Notre Dame. We're going to come into their house and stomp the living hell out of them."

Watching this makes me cringe and causes my anxiety to spike. I hope our defense is up to this challenge.

Our defense is going to have a little bit of trouble with their tricky offense. I really like our matchup on the other side of the ball. We just need to focus on running the ball and pounding their undersized defense. Air force gives up the 7.5 10+ runs per game which is 4th worst in the country, while we average around 7 10+ runs per game which is in the top 20 in the country.

If we can take advantage of our size and athleticism advantages in the run game, then I think we win this game.

Not that anyone is surprised or even cares but I had Air Force as a loss before the season started. AND Air Force as one of my surprise teams of 2011. Air Force aint no joke. IF and i say IF we win this game it is going to be WAY closer than the experts think.

But for s hi ts and giggles:

Air Force 30
Notre Dame 27

The only upside to that vid is that AF was playing Houston, a team not exactly known for their defensive prowess.

Yeah, anyone got video of the first 3 quarters of TCU versus Air Force? I'd love to watch that.

Page 7 in this thread has some video of TCU vs Air Force. I haven't watched them so I don't know if it is full quarters.

I know one thing and thats Coach D doesn't like getting shown up on national tv like he did last year against navy. I hope he is ready to to forget about that and help us win this game.

Thanks to whoever posted that video. TCU just gave ND the blue print to this game. Dominating performance. TCU made it look easy.

TCU's base defense is very similar to our Nickel package. If we're stuffing the run on first down, we'll look very similar to TCU.

anyone know when the devine statue revealing is scheduled for?

i know about every thing else bagpipes, trumpets under dome, player walk etc.

Not sure if anyone answered you on this.

Dan Devine Statue
A sculpture of former University of Notre Dame football coach Dan Devine, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and coach of the 1977 Irish national championship team, will be dedicated Friday, Oct. 7 (the day before Notre Dame’s home football game against Air Force), at Notre Dame Stadium. The dedication will take place at Notre Dame Stadium’s Gate A, which in 2010 was designated the Devine gate when the sculptures of Knute Rockne (north tunnel), Ara Parseghian (Gate B), Frank Leahy (Gate C) and Lou Holtz (Gate D) were re-located outside the stadium walls. Rockne, Parseghian, Leahy, Holtz and Devine are the five former Irish football coaches – all of them Hall of Fame inductees – who have won one or more national titles at Notre Dame

Just watched the first half against TCU. Here's a recap of the Air Force drives:

Drive 1 - moved the ball well with a balance of passing and option running... drive stalled after a 15 yard chop block. It put them in 1st and 25, 2nd and 17, and then 3rd and 4, and then 4th and 3 which was blown up for a turnover around the 50. Key stops by TCU on 3rd and 4th down by getting penetration up the field to blow up the play.

Drive 2 - A negative play on first down, then a dropped 7 yard pass sets up 3rd and 12 which they can't pick up. Again, one negative play is all it takes to get Air Force "off schedule" and stop the drive.

Drive 3 - Moved the ball well, got into TCU territory, and then on a 2nd and 10 option Jefferson fumbled the ball and TCU takes over.

Drive 4 - Really big run to get into TCU territory, followed by a big negative play on a reverse on 1st down, and then failure to pick up the first down leading to a punt.

Drive 5 - A negative play on 2nd down leaves them in 3rd and long which they do manage to pick up thanks to a fumble. An incompletion on first down leaves them in 2nd and 10, and after another incompletion they can't pick up the first down on 3rd and 10. Air Force punts.

Drive 6 - A ridiculously awful play by the TCU QB gives AF the ball off a fumble which is returned to the TCU 45 with 20 seconds to play. A lucky jump ball moves the ball 15 yards, and after another 2 very short completions AF hits a field goal.

So basically... as long as you can get negative plays or get the offense "off schedule" they look incredibly ineffective. Their WRs are laughably unathletic and their passing game (when you know they're going to pass) does not appear to be very good. The key is getting then in 2nd/3rd and long... not 2nd/3rd and short.

On defense... wow, their DL is incredibly small and ineffective. I think we are going to be able to pound them on the ground.
