What a doushebag "Pitt has many great players like Dan Marino, Ditka, Dorsett, and myself"

You mean Mark "vinegar and water" May? DB for sure. I want to see ND kick the snot out of these clowns this weekend.

I find it ironic that May often points out that nobody remembers the 11 national championships and it's all about recent production but the focal point of his argument is that Pitt won 3 before ND won their first.

Lol I don't see how you guys hate him after that video. I mean, I figured he's done much more to garner your hate.

He's just repping his school. It really doesn't bug me.

It's not like this video was the genesis for our dislike for May, it's just that with all of the ND bashing he's done in the past it reminds us of how much he enjoys watching us losing.

To his credit, he's been right in the last 5 years.

Mark May As Dr. Lou - ESPN Video - ESPN

They should play this on repeat in the locker room.

Of all the things May's said and done over the years relating to Notre Dame, this is probably the one that bothers me the least. Guy's just representing his school, I won't kill him for that. And he didn't really say anything too disparaging about ND, mainly kept it to just talking up Pitt, which is fine with me.

The only thing he said that bothered me at all was when he mentionned Pitt winning 3 championships before ND won their first. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't May one of those guys always talking about how all ND has is it's past, and that they're nothing to talk about in the present? And then he goes and references accomplishments by his alma mater from the turn of the 20th century? Seems a little hypocritical.

That and the fact that he referenced himself in the same breath as Dan Marino, but that's got nothing to do with the Irish, just shows what a delusional d-bag he is.

Sheesh! That video was just camp. May is doing exactly what the production team at ESPN decided to do to keep the wink-wink Holtz-May thing going which ups ratings, and makes most of the country laugh.

AND May's mentioning of himself is the dead giveaway on that. Camp comedy which obviously some of us can't appreciate. AND as Rocket said: Mark May is one of the best linemen to ever play football. "Sneaking into Dr. Lou's office"----yeh, I can really take that seriously. C'mon guys, loosen up.

Anyone watch college football live today? David Pollack said M. Floyd is going to go for 600 yards against the Pitt secondary. Would love to hear Mark May explain that.

Could be a good thing could be a really bad thing. Matt rotheram is a red shirt freshman. listed at 6'6'' 350 pounds! must be a reason he is not starting but that is a big boy up front.

That's not a good weight for an OG in a Spread offense. I seriously doubt someone that heavy has even passable lateral quickness and endurance.

Kelly's eyes gleam but he is still trying to put a reasonable cap on expectations for Tuitt and especially Lynch just yet. He speaks of plenty of plays but situational. And he speaks of Lynch having to come out after just a series or two due to his relentless expenditure of effort. Niklas got a soft compliment but Shembo is number one. Atkinson got a straight compliment with no downer vis-a-vis the fumble. His brother will be ready to go in if Lo Wood isn't but otherwise not. Ishaq will play some but Fleming got praise for his best game. [ on two non-frosh notes, Big Lou got nothing but praise, and look for Anthony McDonald instead of either Fox or Calabreese in passing situations.] No frosh will play on O-Line except in unforeseen emergency apparently, but Koyack will at TE. I heard no comment about Davaris Daniels. Kelly remains coy about the transition QB package, but admitted they're working on it.

p.s. that bit about the overweight frosh having to play can't mean anything good for Pitt. Even if he's sort-of good, how many plays could he last?? And what are the odds he's good at picking up line stunts or blocking Aaron Lynch?? Katie-bar-the-door is what I think.

Mengus22 (Big East beat writer) via Twitter:

I hope Sunseri's deductible is paid up. Gonna take a beating vs. Notre Dame.

I'm loving all the venom directed toward Pitt and Syracuse by Big East people. Either way, true statement is true.

Color me intrigued. On what are you basing this, OMM?

Kelly remains coy about the transition QB package, but admitted they're working on it.

I remain skeptical. Self-inflicted TOs aside, we haven't had any trouble moving the ball in the red zone. With some of the concerns regarding certain players "settling in" (see: Riddick), bringing in a freshman QB mid-drive seems awfully ill-advised.

Edit: to clarify, I'm skeptical that we'll actually see a change-of-pace QB. I have no doubt that Golson and Hendrix are working on the Zone Read, Speed Option, etc.

ND has moved the ball impressively in every game, but the turnovers negate all that good work. I fully expect ND to march down the field on the first drive against Pitt, like they have on all initial drives in this season so far. I'm not so sure of the benefit of bringing in another QB unless BK sees the turnovers at the QB position as a big enough problem that cannot be addressed otherwise. Moving the ball hasnt been a problem in any game yet; bringing in another QB would have to be to protect the ball in the red zone.

Anthony McDonald instead of either Fox or Calabreese in passing situations...

To take a contrarian view for a change (insert irony), I think Carlo is better in coverage than people give him credit for. Or at least he shouldn't still be judged based on last year's performances. Sure he's a tad slow, a run stopper and has less-than-fluid hips, but that pass deflection against MSU last week was really good. From a LB position, getting depth on the deep slant and not letting the WR run behind you very hard. I played LB in hs/college and I could never figure it out, let alone in game situations. It shows that he at least has good instincts and isn't a huge liability.

What are the chances that Golson (a true freshman) or Hendrix (a RS freshman) could protect the ball better than Rees? Their packages would undoubtedly be heavy on QB Reads and Options, but trying to mesh handoffs on Reads and pitches on Options aren't exactly low risk plays with an inexperienced QB.

I also question if Kelly's ready to let Golson and Hendrix throw the ball. Having a mobile QB doesn't open up the defense unless he's a legitimate threat to pass.

Whiskey: Kelly mentioned McDonald playing some of that during the MSU game in one of his interviews, and he made a comment about Anthony having a sense for the job.

I think Anthony got beat on the one TD MSU scored. Didn't really look like it was his fault, more that he lost his footing on our crappy grass.

It won't bode well for Fox and Calabrese if a senior career backup who seems unlikely to get a 5Y starts getting significant reps at the Will.
