Stats are borderline irrelevant when projecting to college.

Lol, touche. But future D1 RBs tend to put up big numbers because almost ever high school runs the ball consistently as opposed to some 5-star QB or 5-star WR who play in a wishbone offense.

Still, it's 19 carries. That's quite a few. From the game stats I've seen on here he just hasn't put up any wow-factor type numbers from what I remember.

Shouldn't that have all the DBs downfield protecting against the bombs? Apparently the OLine can block as the QB gets time to throw all those bombs. And if the defenders are so bad, such poor tacklers, I'd expect a RB with this size and speed to put up more yardage.

This isn't a knock on Perkins but rather on some of the inane posts knocking the defenders Dieter plays against. If one player dominants against "inferior" competition when everybody knows where the ball should be going, shouldn't the other guy also dominant against that same competition particularly when they're playing pass?

How can a WR catch a short pass and run through the entire defense for a TD and the RB not also run through that defense? The RB should be the better runner, shouldn't he?

Is he? Perkins keeps saying he's going to be a RB.

And it addresses the two faced posts about the "horrible" level of competition, sloppy, inept tackling that Dieter supposedly plays against. The level of competition is the same for both players.

Floyd's pass catching stretches a defense for Wood. Wood ripping of yardage forces a defense to play close opening up Floyd.

This is a euphemism for "The coaches told me I'm going to be an OLB".

So there has been a rumor going around school that David might get his scholarship taken away because he isnt having isnt performing on the same level as he was last year. He has had his share of fumbles so far but he isnt going to Notre Dame to play running back. He has been good on defense the whole year. He gets to the quarterback but the quarterback always gets rid of the ball before he is sacked. So that makes his stats not as good as they were. I feel bad for him and I hope he starts to prove people wrong because he is a really good player.

I can't recall ND ever rescinding an offer due to a dip in high school production. Sounds like bullsh!t to me. Tell Boom he has nothing to worry about.

He proved his freak athleticism at the SPARQ combine. Kelly's staff didn't offer him based on high school production anyway.

Yeah I cant see this happening either. I try to tell everyone that it wont happen. Some coaches are all over his jock and they just need to let him play

As an aside, I wonder if Perkin's future is at ILB for us. He fits the physical profile well, and Diaco's staff has done a great job blitzing Te'o this season. I could see them using Perkins in a similar fashion 2-3 years from now.

I agree. They should probably try him out at both spots. He would probably be better at OLB because of his speed to get around the corner.

I vote inside. Speed is needed everywhere on the field not just on the edge.

Perkins' natural ability as a pass rusher seems to militate in favor of him being an OLB, but Diaco's scheme is all about leveraging the offense back inside where there are more defenders; that's why the physical prototype for his DEs and OLBs is tall and long-limbed.

With guys like Councell, Williams, and Niklas already at OLB for us, and recruits like Odenigbo and Spence on the horizon, I don't think Perkins will find a long-term home on the edge.

We're not likely to take any pure ILBs in this class, and it remains one of the least settled position groups on our defense going forward. Maybe Boom is our 2012 ILB.

I like his ability to rush off the edge, so I'm more partial to him staying outside. I'm not sure how good he is at doing some of the other things being an ILB entails, but I think physically he's the most suited of our potential OLBs to move inside.
