He liked Michigan growing up and likes Denard. That's the extent of it.

LOVE to hear stuff like this! Thanks for the info, Office LB.

I've liked this kid a lot from day 1. Not to mention, getting him on board would solidify, and potentially simplify, our DB, WR, and/or RB recruiting this recruiting. Of course, getting him on board could also complicate things at those positions for the coaching staff-- but complicate in an awesome way!

...

We're in his top 5 currently.

He said UCLA and ND (which are included in the top 5) are standing out at the moment.

That does not mean he has a top 2.

Got ya, just that post I quoted of yours read differently than that to me. Sorry for any confusion or annoyance. :)

Per Scout:

Grant High (Sacramento) five-star safety Shaq Thompson is looking at taking an official visit next weekend, and has Notre Dame on his radar. IrishEyes.com has the latest on Scout.com's No. 1-rated safety in the 2012 class.

Scout.com: Latest on 5-star Safety Shaq Thompson (Premium)

EDIT: Isn't he suppose to come for the USC game or was that never confirmed?

I thought he was coming to USC? Maybe I'm being greedy, but I don't know if this is the best news.

I dont see how you can possibly spin a kid considering taking an official visit this weekend as a negative? Greedy about what? Id rather get him on campus NOW then hold our breath and hope he comes for USC.

Personally I would rather him come this weekend as well. More personal attention from the coaches and he could meet Darby, Day and others. He already knows Tee and Deontay really well.

Just amazes me how some people manage to put a negative spin on EVERYTHING! Hell, if he comes this weekend and commits, we would have the normal group of posters making sure to rush into the thread and state how he is still taking other visits and they think we will lose him before signing day...or that him committing must mean somebody else is decommitting. It's always something.

Relax, he was, at some point, coming for the USC game not MSU game. I was just saying that the USC game is going to be a much better atmosphere for a 17 year old kid.

Don't get so emotional.

He has a point though. I still don't see how you can take a kid coming earlier than expected as a bad thing, especially considering how much more love he'll get this weekend as opposed to what will happen that USC weekend, when EVERYONE and their mother will be there (assuming we don't go into that game 2-4 or something). No idea if he's coming this weekend or not for sure, but I'll take him coming this weekend over possibky coming on an overcorwded weekend as a good thing...

Agree to disagree. I don't think a 5-star, #1 overall Safety (scout.com) is going to be overwhelmed or feel over croweded. If he went to the USC game, he might be our most coveted recruit. I don't think he'll be starving for attention in that case.

If he's not coming to USC game anymore, it's good that he's coming this weekend. Just would rather have him for the night game. You guys saw how electric Michigan was last week.

With him possibly coming this weekend, that opens the possibility of him coming AGAIN for USC (unofficially). Which could be a very good thing.

That's part of the problem. We need a USC at night type atmosphere for EVERY game. That being said, if we play well and win this weekend, the environment will be plenty good to woo recruits. The team and fanbase are starving for a win. Also, him coming this weekend instead of USG goes a long ways towards showing he is not 1. just coming out for a free ride to our biggest game of the year that every recruit seems to want to be at. 2. Coming out just as much to see USC as he is ND since they are still lingering around as one of his options.

I think coming out this weekend is a big step forward in showing his interest in ND is genuine and should silence those who doubt that...unless of course somehow it's a bad thing in your opinion.

And a weekend when we will have Arik Armstead, Zach Banner, Keith Marshall, and a who's who of the best high school players in America on campus is not going to allow the staff to focus anywhere near the same attention on a recruit, even if he were the #1 overall guy at the top of their board (which I doubt he is only because of our dire lack of talent and depth at other positions), as they would be able to on a weekend where we have only 4-5 guys on campus. Its not logistically possible.

Hopefully we give him a reason to really want to get back for USC

Is this official or is he just looking into it?

Also he is visiting Washington Sept 24

Strong reason for him to come - did you see our safety play last week?

I like this. Dont see the negative but to each their own. It will be nice for Darby to get in his ear.

Yeah no joke... and they're all graduating very soon... assuming no CB decommits the ONLY thing missing between our classes of the past two years is a 5:s: safety. If we get a true play maker to go with Darby, Tee and our font 7.... look out.

For real, add Shaq to this class (with no decommits) and it would be just about perfect.

No it has not.

Hope he does, great weekend for him to get the attention from the staff that he needs to verbal plus the fans will be going nuts against MSU, its not USC but its a heated rivalry. Love this guy's speed, its deceptive, and his physicality. Would round out, arguably, the best defensive back class in the country this year.

I really hope he makes it for the USC game. I was tarred and feathered on here for saying I'd rather have him come to USC over MSU. Still think so.

Tarred and feathered? Really.

I recall Te'O4 responding to your initial, "I don't know if this is the best news." Hardly a match under a tar bucket nor the plucking of chickens. Nobody got a rail to ride you out of town.
