If I am correct, you didn't even get through your next paragragh.
Were you referring to Johnny starting this thread? Because that is what he is talking about. I know things are super busy, and we haven't made your life very easy as a mod, but these types of posts are combative. If he took this spat between you to pm, and came out of it banned, then I think that is not fair.
Ha ha...no, I wasn't talking about johnny (he didn't start this thread because he was banned), nor any ONE poster. There have actually been about 3-4 people who have done that, and those people are no longer with this site. I wouldn't say that about a current poster.
I have been wanting to ask you this, LA. Do you like being a mod? I ask because while you do a tremendous job at it, it seems to be a bit overwhelming for you. Because of idiotic posts (some even made by Johnny and myself, regrettably of course), you seem to have to write several angry rebuttals a day, defending your decisions.I predict that this site will simmer down significantly come September 3rd. Maybe we will just have to ride the storm out until then.
I do like being a mod. I wouldn't say it's always enjoyable of course, but it's worth it because of the posters here who have thanked us mods and jpham through PM about what a great site it is. Being able to talk and read about Irish football amongst Irish fans and 'friends' without being bagged on or cyber-bullied like you see on other sites makes this job absolutely worth it.
And this site will certainly NOT simmer down in the season. A loss or something dramatic WILL happen. Trolls will show up. And I've been on this site long enough to know that when the sh!t hits the fan, the same guys who rail about the rules will be the ones starting the most crap. Think about it wooly...if a guy can't handle himself when there's no drama, what's he going to do when BK makes a wrong call, or when Crist throws a pick, or when Cierre Wood fumbles, or when someone decommits? All of this will happen during the season, and if a poster can't handle a simple thread being closed, how in the hell is he going to handle Irish football?
Listen, to be honest, I think all this crap is like High School Musical. It's a big drama, for absolutely nothing. I think people take this stuff way too seriously. To me it's simple...post responsibly, and you're fine. Almost everyone gets it. And then there are about 5-6 people who don't get it, and they become they vocal minority, trying to bring down 'the man' (LaughOuteffingLoud). When in reality, the mods are Notre Dame fans just like you. I've banned (temporarily mind you) 3 people in probably the past 8 months. It just so happens that it has happened fairly recently. Of course, now I'm the big bad mod with the power-trip, when in reality it couldn't be further from the truth. Seriously, it's laughable. You won't find a more easy-going guy than me. But whatever, those 5-6 people can think what they want.
ps - If this post goes over the sensitivity line, let me know and i'll delete it. I'm not trying to call anyone out, just trying to add meaningful insight to an argument that simply is not going away.
Your post is absolutely fine.
