As BGIF mentioned, the top five are as aforementioned.

He will take officials, although he has only one lined up at this time: Notre Dame (USC game)

He and Coach Hinton have a good relationship.

All of this, according to 247 sports, B&G.

Per Rivals will take 3 officials only two lined up are for ND and Auburn. Wants to make his decision after those 3. Ohio State, Alabama, and Florida State and TCU will fight for the 3rd. ND has a slight lead.

Back in June in an ISD article he noted he would probably only take 3 officials, ND got a nod for an official. I think Miami was in his group then (and got an unofficial) but apparently they're out now and TCU's in.

Looking back through the tread it appears the only other school he's visited on his current short list is Bama for a camp. He probably saw enough to not need a second trip. Anybody know if he's visited elsewhere?

IrishinFL wants Gene got to say?

I think you meant me. Anyways, I haven't seen Gene in a while because his wife said he's can't go out so often, which is only once a week anyways. I rarely see Langston, but he always has better info then Gene (he's the recruiting guy for Warchant).

Verbals and the Competiton using Rivals Rankings

Verbals and the Competiton using Rivals Rankings

Alabama Verbals 0;
In The Hunt #1 Howard, #4 Smith, #13 Morgan, #28 T.J. Davis, #29 Bonner

Auburn Verbals 1, #21 Hosley;
In The Hunt #4 Smith, #28 T.J. Davis, #29 Bonner, #42 Jones,

FSU Verbals 0;
In The Hunt #1 Howard, #14 Bonner, #28 T.J. Davis,

OSU Verbals 2, #24 Bogard # Powell;
In The Hunt #28 T.J. Davis,

TCU Verbals 1,#31 Johnson;
In The Hunt #14 Blake, #28 T.J. Davis,

ND Verbals 2, #5 Shepard & #7 Darby;
In The Hunt, #1 Howard, #3 Wright, #4 Smith, #10 Adams, #16 Reeves, #28 T.J. Davis,

ND has the most verbals 2 (tied with OSU) and ND has the Top Rated Verbals. ND is also still in the hunt with more Top 50 Rivals CBs than any else. IF a story broke that Darby (and his speed) was slated for ND's offense. I think ND would have another CB in a hurry.

I didn't include verbals to other schools that might flip or JUCOs both are unknowns at this point. I don't how many CBs the others are looking at.

Because he started out low. Rivals has him at #55 in the Florida. MaxPreps has him at #117.

It's still early in the recruiting cycle. Rivals last ranked positions in mid June. So summer offers, camps, and 7 on 7s aren't reflected.

Rivals and the other services should update position rankinds over the next few weeks, Preseason, and maybe 2 or 3 times after that.

Would it be safe to assume that there's only one spot left for the secondary? Yuri, Shaq, Tracy, and TJ....take your pick

Shaq Thompson is the type of player you make room for if he wants to come here.

Isn't Tracy Howard one of the best lockdown corners in the country? Do you make room for him as well if he chooses ND? I'm all for bringing in elite talent, but where do you draw the line when numbers become an issue?

I believe Mr. Thompson is also a dynamic offensive player.

Definitely make room for Shaq and probably Howard too. Also may depend on if the staff sees Baratti moving to LB

you take Tracy Howard and Shaq Thompson no matter what. Baratti isn't playing LB.

TJ Davis' Composite Score is 3.25:s:, 26th CB. Unless he's a major sleeper and Kelly's really high on him, he doesn't look like a "make room" kinda guy.

Wright (4.25:s:, 3rd CB, 31st Nationally), Howard (4:s:, 4th CB, 34th Nationally), and Thompson (4.75:s:, 2nd S/ 1st ATH, 12th Nationally) all fit that bill though.

Ok so going back to my question, If TJ commits to ND and any combination of the other three want to commit, you're saying the staff would take all four if that were the order of events? I'm not sure I believe that. I'd love to stock pile all the elite DBs, but with numbers tight, I don't see how it can be done. Someone will be turned away. IMO, ND has a real shot at Wright and Thompson. The other two are toss-ups (eventhough TJ had the Irish on top for awhile). This whole convo is moot if that happens. My reasoning behind starting the topic is due to all of the spots that still remain to be filled (2 rbs, slot wr, OL, DL, OLB).

OLB becomes less of a priority with Niklas moving to the CAT. Seems to me like we could pass on an OLB in favor of an elite DB.

^This...Howard is the best corner in the country. Rivals and ESPN have him as the #1 corner and I trust their rankings over scout and 247 (Since 247 is new to the game).

I said no such thing. I was merely showing the disparity in ranking between Yuri/ Howard/ Thompson and Davis, who definitely isn't a "make room" kinda guy.

With our current commits, I think the staff would like to take one more DB, and since we're still competitive for several blue chippers, I don't think they'd accept Davis' verbal even if he wanted to give it.

Furthermore, we should separate Yuri and Tracy from Shaq; Thompson is a superstar athlete. ESPN is the only service who hasn't given him a 5th star and ranked him as the #1 S/ ATH. He could play anywhere-- RB, WR, S, etc. He's the prototypical "make room" guy; even if that means denying a 5Y to a deserving Senior.

So, if this hypothetical situation actually came to pass, I think the staff turns down Davis, accepts Wright's, accepts Howard's (moving Prosise to WR to compensate), and then accepts Thompson's, even if doing so means someone like Slaughter doesn't get asked back. Order of events is critical.
