I trust OMM a HELL of a lot more than bleacher report...

Just sayin

I understand nobody likes bleacherreports reporting, but you honestly think they change combine numbers? lol. Get real. You can find Berry's official NFL combine time anywhere you want, just google it. It ws 4.47

I'm not concerned with Berry's 40 time.
I thought we were discussing Hayseed's time/ the transition of our team speed on defense?

I'm confused I guess... I made a post saying I have a hard time believing that high-school site of reported times when Eric Berry apparently must have gotten much slower in college, and showed the NFL combine time to prove that...

Then, you quoted my post saying you didn't trust bleacherreport, and I said there's no way they change the combine times.

Now you're bring up hayseed? I don't even know who that is.

Hayseed=Harrison Smith.
Maybe Berry DID get slower in college
I guess I just don't like the fact that some of us don't believe that Smith isn't capable of even being that fast.
Yet, there isn't any proof that he isn't except for the "eyeball" test

Two kinds of "size", which need to be kept mentally separate in discussion: a). Mass; b). extension. I was talking about mass vs speed in some of the defensive positions. Kelly obviously wants all the "extension" that he can get, if enough speed comes along with it. Extension is part of the Space Coverage goal, particularly for DBs and cover linebackers at the point of ball arrival. What I, and coach Tuberville [however it's spelled] were talking about is the error of sacrificing speed for mass. [like Schembechler or Hayes would]. [And like Florida State and Old Miami taught us, or should have, NOT to do].

Ohhh, I understand what you are saying better now and I totally agree. You are talking about the way the players lift; instead of the old strength training where you just put on mass you are talking about the new theory that Longo uses that uses compound exercises that build strength and speed. Also, like you said Kelly is now getting players who are tall and fast but not humongous in terms of mass which allows them to move better

Yeah, we could pee on each other's back and just say it's raining, or we can call a spade a spade. I hope he's 4.4 but he isn't, I'm sorry. I'll remind you of this in 9 months at the combine ;)

As the guys said, back to Tuitt.

I'm sorry, but it's asinine to think that 40 times don't change between each run. Someone who can (at max) run a 4.26 will not always run a 4.26. It's very easy to take one misstep and suddenly lose .1 seconds.

I don't think he'll run a sub 4.4 at the combine, but that doesn't make me think he can't. How many people do run sub 4.4s at the combine? My guess would be not many.

Well I'll go on record and say that with his 3 chances at the NFL combine, or any timed 40 he takes at any point from here on out, he will not run sub 4.4

A lot of players list great times and people think they run 4.4 or 4.5, then you get to the combine and everyone finds out what it really is (Ex, Joe Hayden, Dwayne Jarrett, etc.)

I just don't see 4.4 speed out of Harrison, I'm sorry. If it's hand-timed, I'm sure he could do a 4.4 with the right timer ;)

Get mad at me once I'm wrong and he runs 4.4 at the combine or anytime after that. Then I'll eat my crow.

From today's live chat with Eric Hansen (SBT)

"I have not seen him in person, but Kelly told me off the air yesterday during a commercial that physically he's a freek physically. And he meant it in a good way. He's also got a really good motor and a thirst to be the best. Scary, huh?"

I'm excited to see him on the field on Saturday.

I saw another poster on DD a couple weeks ago said he was walking around campus and saw both Tuitt and Lynch (not at the same time). He said Tuitt looked about 6'4" but not in great shape. Said he wasn't out of shape, but didn't seem to be in great football shape. Then the same guy said he later saw Lynch and that he looked to be in much, much better shape. Hope this newer update is more accurate about Tuitt.

Hilarious in retrospect. Tuitt looks like an NFL DE.

Nix looks GREAT as well- so do many others.

That is like the individual that had been on the team under the Weiss era, that claimed to run a four-five-flat. The coaches immediately challenged him to put a clock on: four-eight-flat.

That being said, I can see how a player can lose a half to a second between post high school and pro combine; injury (Kerry Neal), bulking up, and the pressure of the NFL combine. Take some sleep deprived, worn out, over stressed athletes, and time them in the forty. It is going to be far from their best.

And finally, when people were reporting Stephon looking out of shape and a bit small, I was among the first to challenge; I had heard from two people right away, so it was clear that that was BS. In fact what did he do the other day? 395lbs on the bench press, five times?

Oh, by the way, I checked the roster, and their is nobody on this team named hayseed.

You are mistaken.

Here is a picture commonly posted on NDNation, that shows Tuitt. Tell me he's not in shape. He almost dwarfs Nix! But the real surprise is Rasaba - holy sh!t! He is almost as big as Tuitt, and really put together. Can you imagine him as a MLB?

I think that is Golson walking behind the monsters. If so, he's thinking to himself: "Good Lord!!! Glad these guys are on MY side!!!".

In an article posted somewhere, they said if you had said Tuitt was 6'8 315 he wouldn't question it. Boy is only going to get bigger stronger and faster under Longo. Can't wait!

Remember, these aren't the guys (necessarily) that got all the press. In Kelly's Saturday Q&A, he said when the topic of the entire freshman football class came up, all the coaches smiled . . .

Don't know where I saw it, but I love the description of Tuitt...he should be the leading candidate for "First one off the bus."

Tuitt freaking scares me. That's how big he is.

I honestly think he has one of the best builds on the team, and he just got here. I'm so pumped to see our team in action.

Stephon Tuitt, Aaron Lynch, not much to report there. Both look ready for a great senior year at ND. Oh wait, they're freshmen? Really?

There is if you insist on typing an extra "s" like I alwasyss sdo.

What is the thrill in calling Harrison Smith, hayseed? I don't buy the bull sh!t that he likes it; that's like thirty years ago when all the racist got a token minority friend and made "color" jokes with them, just to prove how regular they were. Demeaning is still demeaning.

What is it? Because if there is one player on this team that has brought his game level up and developed into a true leader, it is Harrison.

Let's not forget, this team had two named captains last spring and only one of them remains. At the spring game when I called out his name, and was going to follow it with, "Best in America," I just stopped when I saw the look on his face. He seems the humble fellow, and I felt bad that I may have embarrassed him. He is good people and he is going to leave ND as one of the greats at his position, (now that he has one.)
