with that said i would hate to see golson burn a redshirt for returns lol

This is the reason I hope Golson has limited reps. I look forward to what this kid will be. Like a fine bottle of wine. Let's allow him to mature.

Then Tony Rice version 2.0 can play.

I doubt that Golson returns punts. I think Kelly was making a comment on how wide open the battle for return jobs was....Best player to an athletic freshmen qb as well as he has options. Personally, if Golson/Floyd/Riddick/Toma/Heggie/Hounshell return punts theres a reason, and im down with coach kelly.

You guys are fighting a losing battle. The defense is "The Beast", like it or not.

That's exactly what it means, under no circumstance does a future QB return punts. It has never happened at a major college program to my knowledge.

I'm not saying I don't think Golson has a chance to be great, all I'm saying is if Kelly has him returning kicks, he clearly doesn't.

John Sciarra UCLA returned punts while he was the quarterback, so it has been done.

From this ESPN piece:

Crist said he felt much better on Saturday than he did in the spring and that his footwork has greatly improved. Still, don't count out Rees, who has put on a few pounds since playing as a beanpole freshman last season. He said he was up to 215 this summer and is now at 212. I believe Hendrix and Golson are competing for the change-up, special package role, and if one falls behind the other, we could see a transfer.

Golson is going to transfer if he is beaten out as the QB for a change-of-pace package as a true freshman? Somehow I doubt it. If Golson beat out Hendrix this year then I could see Hendrix considering his options, but Brian Bennett has to be talking out of his *** if he is suggesting Golson would transfer rather than preserve a year of eligibility.

I saw this too,

It kind of comes across as a brash assumption, to think that one of the two (Hendrix, Golson) "could" transfer if they don't win this QB battle

stupid espn

I hear that Paul Hornung guy is pretty good. Does anybody know if the staff has offered him yet? I think he needs to be at the top of our list.

These usually bug me, but at 2:30 in the morning, I lol'd.

My source says the staff has cooled on him due to some off the field concerns.

Yeah, they usually bother me too. But after seeing Hornung brought up...I couldn't resist!

The only one I've ever actually literally laughed out loud to myself was the other day during "Schuttgate" when somebody (and I wish I could remember who) threw one out...then asked, "What, too soon?" That cracked me up. I hope whoever that was steps forward to take credit. I'd definitely give him some reps!

Your Sciarra reference from 3 decades ago is as paper thin as his Hornung reference over 5 decades ago.

More contemporary than Hornung and Sciarra but by the paucity of examples still a rarity.

When I read this I could not understand why he even said that? when did he hear anything about anyone even considering a transfer?

He didn't hear anything he was merely speculating on the raw numbers at the position. He was simply stirring the pot and obviously that part worked. The only scoop he'd get is one he stepped on. He's not likely to notice even then because of his background aroma.
