Some juicy quotes from over on MGoBlog:

At one time I had hoped that Day could make up for our 2012 class' distinct lack of dreads, but it was not to be

**** you guys, we've got dreads all over.

I think he is talking about Day vs our oline. I'm in agreement. He will never land a finger on Shane (Morris, 2013 QB commit).

Yep, sure, mhmm.

Hehehe.

Big DT Sheldon Day commits to Notre Dame - CBSSports.com

Big DT Sheldon Day commits to Notre Dame
August 3, 2011 10:59 pm
by Bryan Fischer

While Florida State snagging quarterback Jameis Winston might have stolen most of the recruiting headlines on Wednesday, Notre Dame added an equally big pickup of their own as Indianapolis (Ind.) defensive tackle Sheldon Day gave the Irish his verbal commitment in the early evening.

"It was the academics, great football, and (defensive line) Coach (Mike) Elston and Coach (Brian) Kelly and the whole entire staff," Day told 247Sports.com.

The 6-foot-2, 286-pounder was a stand out at the Ohio State Nike Camp and The Opening earlier this the summer and held offers from schools such as Auburn, Florida, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

Day is the 13th commit for the Irish in the class of 2012 but just the second along the defensive line.

Notre Dame continued to build depth along the defensive line with its latest commitment as Indianapolis Warren Central defensive tackle Sheldon Day committed to the Irish on Wednesday, per Warren Central assistant coach Greg Brookey.

The four-star prospect is commitment No. 13 for Notre Dame and its second out of Indianapolis in this recruiting cycle, joining Cathedral safety John Turner.

Other programs to have offered Day include Arkansas, Cincinnati, Florida, Indiana, Iowa LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue, Stanford, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Wisconsin.

Day, a 6-foot-2, 286-pound prospect, has visited Notre Dame three times over the last few months, including a trip earlier in July.

He is the second defensive lineman Notre Dame has picked up in the Class of 2012, although North Carolina prospect Romeo Okwara most likely projects at outside linebacker in defensive coordinator Bob Diaco's 3-4 scheme.

(Disclaimer: This post isn't serious)

If we land a couple of the kids we're still hoping for, this should be a Top 10 class.

Scout.com: 5-Star Day Commits to Notre Dame

Sheldon Day By Brian Dohn Recruiting analyst
Aug 3, 2011

Notre Dame had long had Sheldon Day atop its defensive tackle list, and Wednesday the Irish landed the five-star prospect from Indianapolis' Warren High.
Day made the decision after deliberation with his family.

"He really wanted to do his official visits," Warrren Central coach John Hart said. "But I think as recruiting blows up, Notre Dame didn't have a lot of (slots) left, and always kept him in a very personal relationship.

"I thought Michigan did a fabulous job. Iowa did a terrific job. LSU did a great job. There was a lot of great people involved in the recruiting process. Virginia Tech was phenomenal. But I think it was the idea he might lose the place he wanted to go

“At our school, once you commit, you’re done.”

“At our school, once you commit, you’re done.”

Notre Dame football: DT Day has say: it's ND - southbendtribune.com
By BOB WEINEKE
South Bend Tribune Staff Writer

Sheldon Day’s original plan called for him to take all five of his official visits before deciding where he would play his college football.

Plans change.

“I think that’s probably out the window,” Greg Brookey, an assistant coach at Indianapolis Warren Central High School, where Day will soon begin his senior season, said Wednesday night. “At our school, once you commit, you’re done.”

Done because Day gave his verbal commitment to Notre Dame Wednesday
evening. The 6-foot-2, 286-pound defensive lineman became the 13th player to verbally commit to Notre Dame’s recruiting class of 2012.

Day likely projects as an interior lineman, but Brookey, who works closely with recruiting at Warren Central, said it’s possible Day could slide outside to defensive end.

“They plan on moving him around a little bit,” Brookey said. “He can do a lot of things.”

And a lot of schools noticed. Florida, LSU, Michigan, Penn State and Tennessee were among the host of schools that offered Day, per Rivals.com.

“Very explosive. Very explosive off the ball,” Brookey said. “Just has a high motor.”

And a high football IQ. Brookey said that Day knows as much about the Warren Central pass coverages as some of the school’s defensive backs.

“Which is just amazing,” Brookey said.

Warren Central’s Day commits to Notre Dame | High school sports blog | The Indianapolis Star | indystar.com

Kyle Neddenriep IndyStar

Back in May, Warren Central football coach John Hart joked with star defensive lineman Sheldon Day that he already knew where Day would attend college: Notre Dame.
“I think he kind of knew all along
,” Hart said.
On Wednesday, the 6-foot-2, 280-pound senior committed to Notre Dame, choosing the Fighting Irish over more than 30 other offers. Day also seriously considered Michigan, as well as Iowa, LSU, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech.
Hart compares Day’s style to that of former Miami (Fla.) star and long-time NFL All-Pro Warren Sapp.
I saw him when he played in college and Sheldon reminds me of him because he’s so explosive and you have to try to find ways to get him blocked,” he said. “He plays so fast and with a continuous motor.”
Day is ranked as the No. 11 defensive lineman and No. 80 player overall in the 2012 class by 247Sports.com. Rivals.com ranks him as a four-star prospect on a five-star scale and the No. 22 overall defensive tackle.
Hart said Day had planned to take his officials visits this fall before making a decision, but felt strongly about Notre Dame.
“I think he was really impressed by the long-term vision there,” Hart said. “Coach (Brian) Kelly and (assistant coach Mike) Elston did a great job recruiting him. I think he really felt comfortable with them.”
Day is the 13th known commitment for Notre Dame in the 2012 class. Hart said Day has a 3.7 grade point average and called him one of the “most unassuming” players on the team.
“He’s a well-rounded kid with a lot of strengths, outside of football,” he said. “He’s a tremendous leader and you don’t normally look for your leadership to come from the defensive tackle position.”

That part doesn't sound like the Warren Sapp I recall in college.

Great pickup! I've been a little worried that he may not be a perfect scheme fit, but when you are this talented, you'll find a way to make a difference. Welcome aboard, Sheldon!

Sat down on the recliner in the family room with the wife on the couch...

Picked up my phone to see if I got anything....

Checked twitter and the new tweets were that Day commited...

I YELLED..."YEEESSSS BAHAHAHAHA YESSSS...

My wife looks at me wondering "what the hell"....

I said.."you're gonna hate me when I tell you this but Notre Dame just got a huge commitment"....

She said.."you're right, I do hate you"...

Again..."yesssss hahaha"

Love my wife.

Awesome pickup! Welcome aboard Sheldon! Aside from other recruits i'm picking out Shaq. I'm sure he is taking notice of ND getting Day. I'm sure he wants to play behind a good front seven and this pickup is helping the cause.

I've heard just the opposite and most of the players listed as DT on the recruiting sites were recruited as NT with Jarron Jones being one of the exceptions as they see him as a DE or and OL before they view him as a NT.

Well they're wrong :)
