South Florida Bulls concerns

I was afraid at first, then I went back over a few of their games from last year, and I'm not as concerned now.

However, I am a little worried that they might come out inspired and ND might come out a little flat for whatever reason. They have the ponies to beat ND, but they shouldn't.

If our QB plays well, we should win. Simple as that.

If Weis was still the coach at ND I would be afraid that we will come out flat too, but with Brian Kelly and all of our great assistant coaches I feel that they will fire up the guys. Also I feel that with the way we ended the season, the team will be still riding that momentum to a victory against USF.

Trotter: you say that the offense will progress as far as the number of O-Linemen that are "ready-to-play". Then you ask of any news. Scares me a bit. I must have missed [could easily happen] information on injured O-Line [I know Cwynar is re-habbing on defense , but I thought O-Line was OK.]

Dear OMM,

So sorry for any alarm. As usual I must beg forgiveness for my crude attempts at communication.

My hypothesis, is the more Kelly has ready to play at his level, the more he has to load, and the more he has to fire. I have watched the man personally at this past spring game, (no not stalking or creeping, or whatever); he is a ball of energy, switched on high.

That is the way his teams play, so he likes to substitute regularly. He gave a goal last year that no one picked up on: two offensive lines ready to go. Two deep at any position. He again has showed that philosophy at DOG.

He stated the same in press conferences, talking about how little difference there is between a starter and the first guy in. I was simply inquiring as to how some of the players behind the starters were doing on the offensive line.

I have heard some wisps about the second year of a Longo program. Not much recently. If the second line is read, it could be high octane from start to finish. Or you could have two completely different offenses.

Rivals Radio this morning was discussing USF. They believe they are the team to beat in the Big East and will have the potential to have an "OUTSTANDING" team according to them. They believe they have BCS caliber players at RB, WR, QB. Plus they believe the D will be stout.

Well being the preseason team to beat in the Big East is like being the best looking girl in the WNBA, not exactly saying a lot.

Outstanding in USF terms, Nationally? That word doesn't mean a whole lot to me.

I'd hope they have BCS caliber players considering they are technically in a BCS conference.

And BJ Daniels(their QB) is mediocre. If the dude didn't have wheels he'd be a complete after thought. IMO if an ND defense under Weis can slow down Colin Kaepernick then their is no reason this defense can't do it to Daniels.

Glad we are opening with a warm-up game like most teams!! NOT. This will be a nip and tuck game for 4 qtrs. Do not buy into any type of blow-out win. Skip will have his boyz plenty amped.

Ok and last year against Purdue was a 4 quarter game. I see no problem with that. It can only help.

Good for Skip having his team ready. Something tells me the guy coaching ND will do likewise.

Plus, Skip will pull out every single Holtz trick play Lou and he have drawn up.

Ok Now you're really reaching man.

Trust me, this is the biggest game of Skip Holtz's entire coaching career. He will be auditioning for the job he one day wants to take over. ND is really in a bad position with this game. It is prior to the monster game at UM and we are expected to win. If we win, every media person says, so what. If we lose, every media person says, ND was over-hyped again!!

Your point? This would be situation if they were playing cupcake or USF.

As you can tell i'm not worried. 31-10 ND

Did anyone happen to watch the 3 games of USF's 2010 season that were on ESPNU last night?

How'd they look?

Something to keep an eye on:

The USF Bulls have their first major injury concern of the preseason, with starting quarterback B.J. Daniels injuring his left hamstring as he went down awkwardly at the end of a scramble during Tuesday morning's practice in Vero Beach.

Daniels was on his back as trainers attended to his left leg, then watched the remainder of practice from the sidelines, at one point sitting down to test his left leg. He walked gingerly to the team huddle at the end of practice, and was slow again leaving the field when practice ended.

I have this game as one of the three loses for the entire year counting the bowl game. I think this team will win 10 games but my feelings are South Fla comes in with Skip and plays an emotional game. My hope is that it doesnt wreck the season and that most people will not panic. Kelly is going to be a great coach at Notre Dame and the talent he is getting is tremendous but hold on to your @$$#$ because this first game will be a tough game. If I am wrong I will be estatic-but I'm not feeling good about this first game. Notre Dame brings out the very best the opponent has to give and Holtz would give blood to win this game. I want to be wrong!!!!

We outclass this group of kids in every category known to man. As much as I loved Charlie, poor coached / poor conditioned players are a thing of the past.

We have excellent coaching and superior players / talent.

I don't even think they have more team speed than us.

They have a shifty between the tackles HB. He will not violate our perimeter. And we know who lives between the tackles and fills our gaps.

Some Hawaiian guy...

Their dual threat QB will be a great refresher for the Michigan game. In fact, it's scUM's worse case scenario: a preparation game we will not look past.

We win 10 games but lose to USF in week 1?

I respectfully disagree. The Irish are going to be just as amped, if not more to play football come week 1. USF is pretty talented and that's why I think they keep it close for the first half but our depth and coaching takes over in the 2nd.

You guys read that BJ Daniels injured his hamstring today, no? He's pretty much their entire offense. Worry less.

Sticking by what I said and I do hope you guys are better informed than me and 'The Irish' win the game. Ten wins but this is one of the loses. I think what really bothers me is the opponent coach's Dad-we all love and respect Lou and I would not want to go against him ( as a coach ) or whatever he could do to help his son win this game. I would imagine he would have real input in helping his son-not hands on coaching stuff but father to son -hey-this is what I would do. I should have said this earlier to explain my feelings on this game-I do think Lou Holtz is a factor in this. I do think he will do anything to help his son win this game and as I said I'm sure he's torn a little on his alligence but he will help his son in any way he can. And rightly so. You guys are going to say no-he's no coach anymore no- he's not going to call one play no-he's not that involved----dont kid yourself if his son asks he will respond. The guy could still coach.

It doesn't matter that Lou is Skip's father. Lou has no "inside" information on BKs playbook or Diaco's defensive schemes. He's not at the practices getting a feel for the teams chemistry or strengths and weaknesses.

Skip Holtz is a good enough coach to stand alone. He doesn't need Lou to tell him how to compete with ND.

The fact is ND has more talent and depth and this game will be over by the end of the 3rd quarter.

Sure, Bogs, steel my thunder! I managed to get my hands on a reel-to-reel tape recorder when I was in high school and this album was released. It was an old machine so I was able to record the song and then play it back in reverse.

Forward or backward, it was an experimental, electronic, experiential Yoko inspired performance piece.

Thirteen is my son's "lucky" number. He insisted on it in his youth soccer leagues.
