This is NUTS!!!

He is citing health reasons...he has had some "issues" for years going back to wheb he was an assistant...

Bad pain in the head (I guess severe headaches)...countless dehydrations reports.

But I am shocked!!!

Love him or hate him, Meyer wins.

Hopefully he gets well and returns to the college game because he is one of few coaches that raises the level of NCAA football across the nation with the standard he sets for his teams.

As much as this is all over the media already leads me to believe Florida must be irrelevant.

unfortunate news for florida, IMO but i think him leaving might help usc because ronald powell was deciding between sc and florida and im guessing with the coaching change he might lean towards usc which sucks, and shaw IMO if he doesnt fit in with new staff might be between osu and possiblyy usc but im not really sure usc was a huge contender but caroll might try to pull him away cause hes a douchebag

i saw he decided not to resign.

CBS's NFL halftime show just said that he has reconsidered retiring, and will take a leave of absence instead. They announced who would coach the team, during his LOA, but I wasn't paying close enough attention to tell you who.

That can't mean anything but unstable... unless they are playing a game for recruiting...

Probably just a recruiting ploy right now.... thats just IMO. Stories have killed them on the recruiting trail before (cough cough US). He was quick to help his employer out though and handled it quite well when it came to recruiting the best.

What a tease. I guess that Bama loss really was a stinger. Easy days in the SEC are over, Urbie.

I'd be more afraid of a mental unstability situation than one with heart issues... How would you like to commit to a coach with mental issues?

Just in TIM TEBOW will bypass the NFL Draft to become the Head Coach at the Univeristy of Florida

If he (Tebow) wants to be coach.... he is probably not a 1st choice.... more like a 3rd or 4th tier consideration... overrated again...

Urban has changed his mind and decided to remain the head football coach at Florida. However, since he is such a workaholic, he will take the advice of the UF athletic director and take a leave of absence for the 2010 season. Instead of retiring, he will take 2010 off and come back and see how he feels. His health was the reason as it has been reported he's had a few trips to the hospital with chest pains, but apparently doctors have told him that his slightly defective heart valve is not life threatening....he just needs a break. ESPN reporting on this so check 'em out there. I for one am happy...the man is good, Florida is better off with him, and he's only 45. Good luck, Urban.

Does this remind anyone of the time when Krzyzewski took a leave at Duke in I think 95?

This is just plain dumb now. No Heisman, no NC, lets drum up some attention.

Well, I hope he doesn't take his time off wearing polyester pants, golfing every day, drive an Escalade, crash it into a tree in his own front yard, lay on the street lost... turn into an old white man before his time.... it happens down there.

This just in...Urban Meyer has signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox. Might want to work on the curve ball.

He's going to take a year off? Really? A one-year sabbatical? Wonder what the coursework will include??

Isn't his wife the one who wears the pants in that family?

"Honey... I'm retiring... guess I won't be one of the highest paid coaches in college football anymore, but I'll have peace of mind and be able to spend all my time at home with you."

"Say what??????????????"
