When his parents sign the paperwork for the condo I'll ease up a bit.

Good news. I think it's important to hang onto Baratti because the potential of landing an elite safety is looking bleak right now.

#notredame commit Nick Baratti is playing safety in the game now after playing QB earlier. He has the build of a future MLB. Too wide for S

A super athletic MLB prospect to take over after Manti goes 1st round?

I love that Kelly and this staff continue to recruit "athletes" in this class. The depth they are building on defense is great. That would also leave a nice spot open for Shaq Thompson in this class.

Greenberry and Tee have been in his ear for awhile. I think we have a much better shot with Shaq then others think. Cal is ready for another sub par year at best. The best players want to play for the best teams. 10 wins goes a long way this year.

ESPN: :s::s::s:, 86th ATH
Rivals: :s::s::s:, 24th ATH
247: :s::s::s:, NR ATH
Scout: :s::s::s::s:, 14th S

Composite Score: 3.25 :s:, 55th ATH

JPham has Baratti listed as a 4:s:. I know he still has to play out his senior season, but 3/4 of the services currently have him rated as a 3:s: ATH. For the sake of accuracy, we might want to list him as a 3:s:.

Will PM the Great Phammer.

Pham rates based on what he/board feels not necessarily a composite or directly related to a service. Hence why Darby is listed as a 5*.

For what it's worth, if you consider Coach D over at ISD Baratti also rates as a 4*... and if you ever read his "In The Film Room" evaluations you can tell he is doing as thorough or more thorough a job as anyone in rating a player.

Fair enough. I don't subscribe to ISD, so I didn't know that Coach D is high on him.

My concern was based on the fact that Scout is the only service to have rated Baratti at higher than 3:s:, and whenever Scout is the outlier, it's usually safe to discard it.

I'm glad you mentioned Darby; I was just thinking about how the board should be most excited about Shepard and Greenberry (in that order), based on several factors... but that's probably a topic for its own thread.

Thanks for looking out guys. I think the 4 stars were assigned when Scout was the only service that had evaluated him.

He has never even played linbacker and suddenly he is the 11th best linebacker in the country?!?!?!

For some reason I've thought of Baratti in the Urlacher mold. A player that can play all over, will probably be at safety in college but will grow enough to become a linebacker.

I mean I know it sounds crazy bringing up Urlachers name when mentioning Baratti, I just always had this thought. Then I see this MLB rating from scout and it kinda reaffirms my crazy thought.

It is what it is... :)

He's barely played safety either. Hell, you used to see QBs from college who had never played WR get taken in the Top 10 of WRs in the NFL draft all the time... what's wrong with speculation?

So why not create an athlete catagory instead of projecting him to MLB? Not asking you Lax, more of a rhetorical question.

Wasn't it one of their scouts that said he has grown too big for safety and that a change to linebacker was eminent?

It doesn't surprise me. And if we get Thompson, then Baratti will add plenty of athleticism to our already awesome LB core.

One of the experts, Lingbill or whatever his name is was at a camp that Baratti was at and said he looked like a LB. I know this sounds shady and I can't find the source, but just telling you what I saw in a tweet.
