He not at the University of Oregon. He's at the Nike Camp called The Opening held at Nike's headquarters in Beaverton, OR. We have a current thread on The Opening with details.

The Opening 2011 Nike Training Camp

Beaverton is a suburb of Portland....also, is the headquarters for NIKE. It is an amazing campus...HIGH SECURITY!

Mahone would be a nice combo with one of the Marshalls or Kevarai Russel. Big due that isn't afraid of contact.

Irish really impressed him.

Mike Farrell in today's chat said Penn State leads, but ND is coming on strong. Really like this kid and hope he comes up Irish.

This will be interesting to see. Would love for us to get this kid and keep him from PSU.

Yeah, but haven't we stolen enough of their talent?
Wait...no, never.
Haha
PSU's misery is my joy.

Come on home Jones and Mahone.

I guess since no one answered my question this is not an issue.

Byron Marshall has to take a foreign language this summer to qualify for an offer. Is that who you're thinking of?

Rivals has his GPA listed as 2.5, so you may be correct.

TTT posted that a week or two ago because a poster over at Rivals had said it. I think if he wanted to verbally committ that the staff would accept pending his ACT scores. It could just be that he hasn't taken the test at all yet and just needs to complete it to meet meet the basic requirements.

There is a freebie up on ISD about Mahone and his Mom. It's a multipart article. I think it bodes well for us that they feel comfortable sharing this with an ND site.

I honor Rocket89's thinking in the 9-10 page area of this thread [about the threat of a super-burner in the RB position]. He is a perceptive poster. But on young Mr. Mahone, I think that there's a winner here --- a BIG winner. I don't know if he can "take it to the house" from 60 yards out, but he seems EXPLOSIVE. His 35" vertical also tells me that. I could easily see him ripping through to the secondary level and terrorizing d-backs.

I hope all is well with his ACT. He seems, and his Mom seems, like the sort of people who would thrive with the Notre Dame environment and take off on a great life. Love it when, like Peat, he tweets the spiritual side of Notre Dame in pictures and not only football...good vibes. And being at The Opening has to have helped with our young supermen being there. [and maybe no one from PSU].

Young man, Coach Kelly can say: "Come to Notre Dame!!" without spitting all over the camera. Join us in the future of football as well as the traditional past. *

* sincere apologies to Coach Paterno, but C'Mon Man, Retire!

Getting Mahone in the fold would be a big step in the process of putting together the 2012 class. Based on the ISD stuff, it seems like Notre Dame could be an ideal fit for William and for what his mother is seeking for him. Looking forward to reading part III tomorrow.

At the end, there will probably be 3 RB's in this class (one a slot/back type), and one of them will probably be a homerun hitter. Mahone would bring something a little different, but just as valuable, to the table.

I have little doubt in my mind that this young man is Irish by the end of August. It is just to natural a fit for him.

It would let us breathe a little easier about the running back position and it would let this staff become more selective (as they have done at OL).

Wouldn't that be spectacular if the verbal commitment was in the third part tomorrow? Could be one of the coolest commitments.

Ha! I had the same thought but I was reticent to make a prediction. Actually, as you can see from my post count, I'm reticent to say much at all.

Welcome, my man.

There's not going to be a commitment for the third installment. However, he is an ND lean at this point supposedly.
