We seem to have a whole lot of OT's and not a lot of OG's. Maybe the staff plans on having some change to G, but I don't get the desparity.

The staff really does not recruit true G. They seem to love verstile tackle types, some who project inside in this system and some than stay outside. In this class, look for Decker to be a RT and Harrell to move inside, possible even to C.

To elaborate on what Ironman said, we recruit a lot more tackles because they are more athletic and versatile, which is what we need in a spread style offense.

If we were building a smashmouth offense then I would be concerned too, but the offense is built around having playmakers and getting them in the right areas of the field to make plays.

Tackle is thought of as the most athletic O Line position....a Tackle can play Guard and Center...however, in most cases a Guard/Center cant play Tackle.

I would compare the question about recruiting tackles and not guards to the question I often hear about why MLB teams draft so many shortstops and rarely draft second basemen. At the lower levels, the best players play tackle, like they play shortstop in baseball. As they move up many of them end up somewhere else.

Bisnowaty Talks ND Visit
By Christian McCollum, ISD

The Irish are interested in Bisnowaty, but said they have to wait on a couple of other linemen they have ranked higher before being able to extend an offer.

“They’re just waiting to see who they can sign and they’re just going to take the process a little bit longer and go from there,” said Bisnowaty.

...

He traveled to South Bend after visiting Michigan and Michigan State on Wednesday, two schools he does hold offers from.

...

Bisnowaty also has an offer from Purdue. He’ll check out Cincinnati on Friday before returning home. He doesn’t have an offer from the Bearcats yet, but they could join Connecticut, Duke, Florida, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, Virginia and West Virginia on his offer list before the weekend.

I think he would have had a better time with an offer.

Offers from UM, MSU, PSU, and the Gators.

Very true. Nobody likes to be a back-up option. We just have limited space and are going after some very elite guys.

Agreed. He was only on campus for a couple of hours this morning as well, and from what I read it didn't sound like he got the proverbial red carpet rolled out for him.

Every recruit who visits should get the red carpet. I understand the staff may be busy but why invite a recruit who you may very well need and "half-***" it. In the end those recruits remember that and take that into account.....lots of recruits like being loved.

Well, it tells you something on how the staff feels about him...

My guess is that they don't have the time or resources to give every recruit that stops by campus the red carpet treatment.

I like that the coaching staff was straight with this guy. "We like you, but we need to see what happens with a few targets higher on our board before you get an offer."

Assuredly not what Adam wanted to hear, but better than stringing him along or making him think he's on-board only to pull the rug out from under him later.

Four-star ILB Kaiwan Lewis sorting through his option - ESPN

Dave Hooker
ESPN Recruiting
7/6

Adam Bisnowaty's summer travel plans are nearly over. The Fox Chapel (Pittsburgh) standout said he'll visit Florida soon, then start to whittle his list of schools to two or three finalists who he'll further evaluate with official visits this fall.

The four-star prospect has already visited Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Notre Dame and Pittsburgh. Bisnowaty, the No. 35 offensive tackle in the country, said he could even decide on a college sooner if his decision feels right.

So what is the 6-6, 277-pounder looking for?

"Great coaching staff, players, a family where you can go and feel like you're at home," he said.

I believe that this clearly says that the staff really wants four OTs this year and only four OTs. That means Decker, Harrell, and probably Peat and one more of Goodman, Kalis, or one of the west coast guys. If they believe that they're really "in there" on all those, then they just cannot say more to this fellow who is obviously a fine athlete. Thus the "social awkwardness". Football recruiting has to be an emotional rip-tide for a coaching staff.

P.S. if you look at numbers strategy, and the area wherein you do not have to recruit the same number of athletes for the spots on the field in an average year, it is the O-Line where you can cheat a little and just get four rather than five. My offensive linemen brothers said the same [four per class was good]. Staff Kelly seems [correctly in my poor estimation] to consider this an average year, and four is enough. Save the extra for a needed skill position.

OMM, I think the fact that Jordan Prestwood transferred to ND is part of the reason why Bisnowaty hasn't gotten an offer (yet). It has allowed the staff to go after Peat and still hit their OL quota without continuing to cast a wider net.

But yes I agree they seem to be looking for a limited number of OL in this class.

RackEm: yes. Prestwood helps. We were far short two years ago with just Lombard and Nichols. Heggie has finally gone over there to heal that class's hole. This freshman group has Hegarty, Hanratty, Martin, and now Prestwood. Carrico got the word early [while playing his senior year at tackle to prepare] to be a fifth O-Lineman. That gives us eight for the two classes, which would be correct. This allows the staff to not force the issue with Springmann, Hounsell, or even Niklaus, but to keep all the defensive ammo in stock. To keep on pace, it would be a solid four this year at OT. Lets keep our fingers crossed for Peat. He would be a priceless addition to the Monster Assembly Line.

Free Link: Offensive lineman review at The Opening

Justin Hopkins
7/11

Adam Bisnowaty - Bisnowaty was there but was not able to strap on a helmet or pads due to a state prep rule. He was the only offensive lineman that could not but there were a few defensive lineman that could not. Adolphus Washington, Se'Von Pittman and Ifeadi Edengibo were all matched up with Bisnowaty both days. It was a tall order but he held his ground on several occasions. Washington seemed to get the better of Bisnowaty on a most occasions, but credit him for holding up against three great defensive lineman on his own.
