Im kinda ashamed of alot of you. Fatness, SAT scores, life expectancy... Really? Somehow I doubt some dumb *** chart is going to explain all of that and why it is. Did any of you ever think that graduation rates and SAT scores are effected more by demographics and government and not geography?

Yes, the south certainly has many issues but come on fellas, have any of you been to Western Pa or some part of New York? Kinda redneck-y up there too. The KKK was founded in Indiana for petes sake. I know 'cause my dad still lives in Wabash.

Its a big country. We have embarrashing parts all over. If you look hard enough you'll probably find some of it in your state.

In the interest of infamy, the KKK was founded in Tennessee. The klan did have a very strong presence in Indiana in the 1920's. In 1924 klan supporters and ND students had a violent confrontation in South Bend. The klan was coming to rally in South Bend to intimidate Catholics at the spot Rockne put on the map.

In fact there is a great book "Notre Dame vs. The Klan" it discusses what went down when the clan tried to march on South Bend and the football players ran their *** out of town.
Sadly in the 20's 1 out of 3 males from Indiana supported The Klan.
The book really makes you feel good for what ND stands for. At the same time it is eerie to read how ugly and nasty the Klan was, and I guess is.

Tis true....

And I grew up in the North and now live in Texas. I'd have to say..people are WAY more friendly down here than up there. And a lot less judgmental.

Funny how the south is called "ignorant" and "rednecks"...yet people from the North are usually the first to throw the stone. And remember, sports usually brings out the worst in people...

Must be all that cold weather that's got you guys all bitter.

The women, food, and sun....the south is fantastic. Come down once in a while and you just might enjoy yourselves.

The thread is about SEC fans being intolerable towards Notre Dame, not how nice Texas is. Texas is completely different than SEC country.

On the "I could care less" part.

Haven't been around much lately, so I am still catching up, but if you could care less, doesn't that mean you do care some, maybe not much, but all the same, you do care some. Wouldn't it be better if you "Couldn't care less?"

Close. I think there are multiple sources, with different claims of origin. But, I think the most reliable holds Corbin, Ky the birthplace. It is almost on the Tn line. Reliable sources have the founding much earlier that the traditional historical record notes. It may have started with the "Golden Knights" in the closing months of the Civil War.

Agreed. I typically like Southerners and I have some family that lives in the South, but when it comes to football they act the North doesn't even play the game. I don't dislike the South personally, but when it comes to football they need a dose of reality at times. Hell, we all need that from time to time.

Absolutely nothing.

In parts of the country more people take the ACT than SAT. Iowa for example probably has a low percentage on the SAT because the ACT is headquartered in Iowa City. Both the ACT and SAT marketed their product aggressively to college admissions personnel to gain market share.

CO, IL, MI, KY, TN, and WY require all high school students to take the ACT to assess high school performance.

The ACT is prevalent in the states in the middle of the country while the SAT is prevalent in the states along both coasts and TX.

I'm sorry, but ND is pretty much considered a joke just about everywhere these days.

We can argue it all we want, but the general consensus (not the opinion of knowledgeable fans) is that ND is irrelevant and plays a "soft" schedule every year (obviously not true).

Sadly, we will have endure this until the team rises up and kicks the living s-hit out of everyone, which hopefully will be SOON!!!!!!

The greatness of Notre Dame's football legacy casts a long shadow. That, combined with the 15-year Great Mediocrity from which we're emerging, and the consistently irrational expectations of our fan base, make Notre Dame easy sport.

But if you objectively judge ND's performance over the last 15 years, the worst stretch in the history's long and storied program, we're still a slighty-better-than-average program. Perhaps a "joke" compared to what we once were, but certainly not a joke compared to most teams in Division I.

You don't have to convince me my friend ;), I was just talking about the hordes of casual-fan haters that like to spew garbage all day long about ND.

Here at UF, I've met a lot of peope who respect ND. I wear my Notre Dame backpack around so football fans always make conversation and I have heard more positive feedback than negative.

A lot of people want to know if Charlie will be good for the Gators but no Irish haters and people seem to respect us & think that we are on the way up and that us & scUM are going to return to glory and have good coaches.

I hate to bring you up to speed, but ND has been pretty irrelevant the last 20 years. What they say is true, but I guess we would be relevant if we could sign 30 players a year and pick and chose. Not to mention admit the borderline academics...

I wish people would quit using the cliché "relevant." It has grown old. Let's start using "popcorn" instead. Is ND popcorn in today's game? When is the last time ND was popcorn? ... Stuff like that.

Houstonian, do you consider yourself a Southerner? Kinda curious what east Texans think, ya'll folk 900 miles away from far west Texas..

Good question. I do, but most Texans consider Texas its own quasi-nation and not part of any geography. It's like the world's 20-something largest economy so I guess they're not too far off.

Texas is not the South. The south stops at the Texas border. VA, SC. NC. FL. GA, TN. KY, AL, MS, AR, and LA are the South. Texas is just Texas.

Unfortunately it's not just south Florida anymore its all of Florida, thanks to the good old wet foot dry foot law.

So ... you know all the Cubanos/Cubanas in Florida that have arrived since 1957 – 1959? (Many "professionals" foresaw the effects of Cuba under Castro.)

My family physician in Orlando was a Cuban exile-in-residence. The year I lived in Miami Calle Ocho was my favorite part of town. The people, the food, the music and the spirit were infectious. The bulk of the friends I made there were sons and daughters of Cuban émigrés.

Granted, I lived there pre-Mariel, so things may be different now. My only beef was that the Cuban population, as a whole, voted Republican simply because they were pissed about a Democrat, JFK, botching the Bay of Pigs (CIA) fiasco. Much as the Dixiecrats "ruled" The South for decades since Lincoln was a Republican and no. Think George Wallace and Lester Maddux. Republicans just weren't elected.

New York and Boston are infested and infected by those damn Irish. Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Minnesota by those damn Germans. New England is controlled by the damn Brits and other heretics. New Mexico, California, Arizona and Texas are inundated by legions of lazy Mexicans willing to work for pennies on the dollar.

It's hot (97 degrees) here in Minneapolis. I have no air conditioning. I'm a cranky old-fart-liberal. End of my over reaction screed.

Have a good Independence Day. Thank the Founding Fathers that rants such as this don't land me in prison.

Well, Texas did fly the confederate flag for about 4 years, but they were more like a neighbor who had to choose sides. They voted for the South. Otherwise, Texas essentially flew the Spanish flag for about 300 years. Like JD and Houstonian say, Texas is just Texas. It was its own republic for about 9 years. And as JD mentions, it seems the Texas east border is where East meets west.

Six flags over Texas: Spain (300yrs.), France (5 yrs), Mexico (15), Texas (9), U.S.A.(beginning in 1845), Confederate (4 yrs).

just tell them yeah... and SEC teams cheat the most. What i like to tell all the cocky *** Ohio St. fans "Its a new Season... Lets see what you do THIS year ... What they did last season or last two season or last decade etc. Dont matter now, if you wanna talk about the PAST you gotta talk about the WHOLE past and not just be selective." And judging by our WHOLE past how many teams can stack up? 2-4 at very most

Its a new year, and with Jim Tressel gone, this opens the chance of getting recruits to come to ND from OSU. Plus, the SEC talks alot, but ND's winning record vs the SEC only proves that ND has history and it can be revived, and they are scared, because they are in the middle of a 5 year championship run, and at any time, ND can rise again and take it from them.

I think of you everytime I see the current Venture Capital One TV commercial of the Vikings invading San Francisco. Right after they show the liberals tossing their glasses of wine after seeing two good ole boys stompin' the grapes, they cut to a big, bearded, barrel chested, long scraggily haired Viking getting a big "Yo dude!" and 60's peace sign (two finger "V")from an equally big, bearded, barrel chested, long scraggily haired Hippy complete with a vest with peace sign patch (inverted "Y" in a circle) and a macrame shoulder bag. Only thing missing is the red hair. (He probably ran out of henna).

P.S. I heard a rumor the Vikes went to Frisco cause Minnesota was closed.

I don't dislike all the SEC teams, only those that forget history. Like mentioned, the young punk SEC fans who have no idea who Bear Bryant or Robert Neyland was....just "fans" because they want to be....they talk smack and know nothing of the past....like 19 year old Alabama fans who talk smack of ND, but know nothing of the history between Ara and Bear....I can't wait for ND to come back and be what they once were.

You know, its funny that Texans seem to think of themselves that way. I just finished off a series of books around the politics of the 1830s and 1840's, and as it turns out, the 'founding' Texans (think Austin, Houston, etc.) were EXTREMELY eagar to join with someone - Britain, the US, and maybe even Mexico in the worst case scenario. Point being, they knew they couldn't hack it as their own country, and needed to join up with somebody. But moden Texans act as though its the other way around. Somewhat comical :)

Thanks James K. Polk!
